NCKate,

When we lost our last dog we were looking at the dog rescue sites. We would see a dog we were willing to adopt, but it turned out that a lot of the sites were bait and switch operations.

We would be told that dog is no longer available for adoption but we have all these pitbull rescues.

No dice.

it is very rare to find any pitbulls, nearly everything is a "pit mix" and if you read the studies about those you see that there's no meaningful standard for determining what is a pit and what is not, it is usually done by visual identification and the standards vary from region to region across country.

97 Yeah, shelters can get kind of creative with their breed descriptions.

I have to get a DNA test done on Reef. The shelter portrayed him as a Blue Heeler mix, which i knew was bullshit, but I liked his eye. He has rotweiler coloring but is built more like a greyhound as he has grown. He has some small ticking which means blue wheeler is in the mix.

More energy than any ten dogs I have ever had. I mean absolutely insane.

Terriers tend to be aggressive. It's their nature. Different breeds do have different characteristics just like horses and other animals. Doesn't mean they can't be raised to be good pets but no, all breeds are not the same.

My cats are indoor-outdoor cats, and they made it pretty old. I think the two oldest ladies are 17, and the old toms were 15 - one had a cancer and one got et and he was always a bit sickly.
I think it is a mix of wet and dry food that is best, and control the fleas and parasites.
Cats don't like bitterness, and sometimes tap water can be bitter to them. That can keep them from drinking enough water, so I put a pinch of salt in the water bowl to take away some of the bitterness for them. Cats are prey to kidney problems so the extra water is best for them.

Watching the first broadcast Trek episode, "The Man Trap." It made me try to remember some other TV show or movie where I'd noted the same thing.

It took me half an hour to recall: the narration by Joe, William Holden, for Sunset Boulevard. It's almost as if Joe does not want to be overheard -- or is talking on the phone with someone and is keeping his voice down to as not to disturb someone else. The technique is appropriate in both properties.

Most shelters have no idea what they are looking at, they guess. If that lab mix you are adopting has eyes in different zip codes, you are looking at a pit mix. Shelters And try really hard to avoid pit labeling, too. It’s DNA testing that is showing the high levels of pits in shelter dogs. Also, shelters are interesting in that they send dogs to other shelters all the time. Some of it is to level vet spend, I will take 1 high needs dog of yours if you take those 5 pit / husky crosses. It’s kind of bizarre - if they get a purebred dog in, a lot of shelters will not allow a direct adoption but will send them to a breed rescue who will charge you 3 times as much to adopt.

Are you retarded? Not a personal attack, but you do understand the concept of letting someone make a total ass of themselves and just feeding them so that they do it again and again.

That is what Trump is doing. He will not defy a court order. He scrupulously follows them, no matter how unlawful or asinine, and he leaves it to the other judges to untangle this bullshit the the left has spun for itself.

Trump's brain trust knows that this is twisting Roberts' guts because it is destroying the legitimacy of the courts. There is no precedent, no reason behind these rulings, just naked assertions of power, and as much as these judges are slapped down, they do it again. And so Trump lets the guy go, and then will arrest him because HE'S HERE ILLEGALLY, and they can't get past that. They just keep saying "MOAR PROCESS," so he gives it to them.

At the SpayMart location yesterday, they had a sign up advertising their "Match a Senior Cat to a Senior" program. You have to be 68 or older, and the cat will be 7 or more. They match you up, give you 14 days of food and supplies, and provide some initial vet care as well as giving the animal vaccinations in advance. And they will take the cat back if it proves you can't care for him.

Since a 7-year-old cat is only about 35-40 in human terms, it's a bit of a mismatch in the name, but the idea is that an older cat will be more settled and easier for an older human to handle.

352 Mrs. Wrecks' friend was struck and killed at night as a pedestrian by a car. It was at a fairly busy intersection near our house with a flashing red light and four way stop but poor lighting and no sidewalk. As is standard journalistic practice of today, the story was extremely poorly written and we couldn't tell what was going on.

Mrs. Wrecks had a dream that it was she who was driving the car and became obsessed with that thought. She searched her car and noticed a few tiny dents and a spot of what might have been blood. She was trying to establish an alibi but neither she nor I can remember where she was at the time. I tried my best to talk her down since her guilt is based upon absolutely nothing but had little success. Finally, tonight, six days later, the paper admits the driver stayed at the scene and has been identified. So Mrs. Wrecks is off the hook. Hopefully, life can return to normal or, at least, no more weird than usual.

369 >> Conversely, we have been propagating radio signals for 125 years so any intelligent life form within 125ly knows we’re here.

That's a common misconception. It ignores inverse square behavior and signal to noise and all that, vs omnidirectional vs our signals that are more "beamed" and so forth.

Our general radio/TV and communications stuff would be detectable only about 5 - 20 ly away. The high end would require an Arecibo size disk and the best detection we have now.

Very high power, highly beamed stuff that got blasted off the planet from military radars and stuff would be detectable maybe 50 ly away, but the aliens would have to be right in the angular line of sight.

They've done planetary radar studies, using Arecibo at high power for instance. Very tight beams, high power. Those might get out a few thousand ly, but again, narrow line of sight.
