Notre Dame takes its ball and goes home to cry. They played a real tough schedule. Four of their wins came from three teams finishing 2-10 and one 3-9. The wins against teams with 9 wins were against Boise, USC and Navy. Good teams but not great teams.
So no bowl revenue since they believe they are entitled to get a share of the playoff pot. If they don’t like it they can join a conference. Posted by: Lurking Cheshirecat at December 08, 2025 11:31 PM (w3u3d) 93

So what if they decided that they're bowing out of all bowl games if they are not selected for the playoffs? Do you want Notre Dame in the bowl games? This, after recently reneging on their contract to play BYU in a home and home where BYU went to their place first and then Notre Dame refused to hold up their end of the deal. MiladyJo and I were walking along enjoying Chicago (which one could, back then) when we saw a newspaper box (which they had back then) and through the box window we could see the headline "Ex-Beatle John Lennon" and the rest of the headline masked by a tax stamp or whatever on the box window. An old picture of a rather ghostly-looking John stared out at us. The news was worse than we could have imagined (no pun intended).
I know there are Lennon haters on here, folks who joke darkly that it was Ono who should have been shot, but, dammit, man, that great musician and songwriter who gave us so much, as a Beatle and after, had finally come home, kicked the drugs, won the struggle against indulgence and fame, settled down with his wife, and tried to be a better father than he had been with his first boy. And good lord have some sympathy with Yoko standing right there to see it. What John could have become, we'll never know. When I first heard "Watching the Wheels" on the radio, it was like a bright light. His killer should have been executed. It was really moving to see old John in the movie Yesterday. Most of the arguments made were economic in nature, and I doubt that most MAGA folks would find fault with them.
The presenting organization, Alberta Prosperity Project, says they seek Alberta independence, and not annexation into the USA, and say their understanding is the President Trump would deal fairly with an independent Alberta. I remember a few months after Lennon’s death Rolling Stone, back when it was still an interesting magazine, published a long piece in the killer by a reporter who’d been allowed to do quite a few interviews with him.
I remember it today because as a piece of writing, it was masterful. The writer did not do anything to excuse him; remember the magazines audience hated him more than anyone else in the world. Yet, as the tale was told I ended up feeling some pity for him in spite of my feelings; it was a day by day story of a man who had so totally lost touch with reality that his conversations with the imaginary people who inhabited his world were far more real to him than any flesh and blood. Some perps claim they are insane to excuse doing what they lust after; but some are so far gone that it is difficult for us to even imagine the things they see and hear. And no, no one that far gone ever comes back. Killing him (which should have been done) would have been a mercy, not a punishment. Posted by: Tom Servo at December 09, 2025 12:36 AM (3hpq0) 184

Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at December 09, 2025 12:55 AM (npFr7) That’s the rub; who could pass such a law except they themselves? Well I do know the answer, and it’s a bit depressing. This is why all large democracies eventually devolve into some type of imperial model of government. That’s who ends up making the laws when the elected “representatives” quit doing it. I recently met Alice Cooper at a meet-and-greet. I asked him why Frank Zappa didn't understand them when he produced their first record. I asked this because a documentary I saw said Zappa heard Alice Cooper's songs and said "I don't get it." That left the impression that Zappa didn't get them at all. So when I asked Cooper the question, he said, "Frank just didn't understand our arrangements. But he liked that it was confusing, because that would then confuse the listener, which Frank liked." Cooper was very engaging and polite. A really good guy. We took a photo of him choking me.

The Notre Dame/Miami imbroglio was never more than a smokescreen. ESPN controls televised sports, and they are the network of the SEC. Notre Dame has their own television platform, and ESPN will do anything to squash the competition. In the past two years, every team that lost in their conference championship dropped in the CFP rankings; every single team except Alabama, the golden calf of the SEC. They got curb-stomped by Georgia, held to -3 yards rushing, and they didn't drop, thus keeping Notre Dame out of the CFP
