As expected, AMD has announced price increases for its Radeon graphics cards. Starting today, the cost to board partners of the parts (GPU chip and GDDR6 RAM) will increased by $10. (Tom's Hardware)

For 8GB cards. For 16GB cards the cost rises by $20.

Given the craziness going on right now, that is not a lot.

There may be more increases coming, but for now at least, no reason to panic.

Finding that random person in Nebraska. (Stacktower)

XKCD comic 2347 highlighted a key weakness of modern computer systems: Everything depends on "a project some random person in Nebraska has been thanklessly maintaining since 2003".

Stacktower is a Python library that inspects your own tech stack and draws a similar diagram and highlights the individual thankless maintainers, so that you can thank them.

Earlier this year, home goods maker Kohler launched a smart camera called the Dekoda that attaches to your toilet bowl, takes pictures of it, and analyzes the images to advise you on your gut health.
I can see where this is going to end.
The security researcher also pointed out that given Kohler can access customers' data on its servers, it's possible Kohler is using customers' bowl pictures to train AI.
Why?
Citing another response from the company representative, the researcher was told that Kohler's "algorithms are trained on de-identified data only."

The Dekoda costs $599 plus a mandatory subscription of at least $6.99 per month.

I can't really complain about them raising prices because I've already paid $10 more than the new suggested MSRP of $619.
The article says AMD will probably raise prices again in January so I guess it'll go up to $629 by then.

But AIB partners will certainly add another 10% to their pwn prices so you'll probably be paying $639 for the cheapest model by February.

You must have one of the first Magic Mouses to have replaceable batteries in it.

I have two.
The older version with replaceable 'AA' size batteries.
And the one that came out in the mid-2010s that is rechargeable through USB.

You might need to buy a new one if it's giving you that much trouble, but at least you won't have to buy batteries anymore if you do.

Oh. I had not noticed that.

Now, I could say that it simply was a design element choice of its creator. Or it reflects an "I don't give a damn" attitude.

In truth, it's an overlooked typo that likely arose because I changed my nick to use a sock puppet and then I had to retype my preferred nickname in its entirety while hampered with my usually blurry early morning vision.

I don't know about that but the Magic Mouse was really one of Apple's best products to come out of the Steve Jobs era.

It's not the most ergonomic thing, but the touch feature is awesome.

Now if we could only get Apple to put the USB port on the front/back of the mouse instead of right in the center of the bottom of it.
(Kinda hard to use it as a mouse while it's charging when it's got a wire sticking out of it.)

I love it! Fortunately my two are very quiet, as most of my cats have been. Except for the late smart black cat Marie-Antoinette.
