Hi.

Just so everyone is clear on the facts. That 97.5% drop in sales was because - in order to "transition" to an only-EV line-up, Jaguar STOPPED MAKING NEW CARS. Completely. They stopped making cars. Once the stock on the dealer lots was gone, there was nothing for the dealers to sell.
My local JLR dealer dropped Jaguar and merely puts on their business cards "A certified Jaguar Service Center" but no longer sells Jags. Posted by: Defenestratus at December 04, 2025 12:14 PM (WYStd) 9

I can’t help but wonder if the popular meme “go woke go broke” is wrong.
Maybe it’s really “Go broke go woke” and maybe have collusion with outside entities to short the stock? It’s either that, or maybe some kind of subsidized jiggery-pokery? Sounds conspiracy theory yes, but no sane CEO or board of directors can possibly think that putting out a Mother’s Day.advertisement featuring a Tranny selling Gillette razors could possibly be a Great Idea! None. Not possible, unless they have some kind of plan. Because catering to a fraction of a single percentage point of mentally ill sex perverts and kiddie fuckers is way, way off the beam. Some more context to this firing.
Gerry Mc was also the lead designer behind everything in the Land Rover lineup since the 1st generation Evoque. It's been and *incredibly* successful brand in large part due to his design language he brought to the brand. Also, the new JLR CEO is an Indian from holding company Tata motors - and he's a notorious cheapskate cost-cutter. I'm told by JLR insiders that Gerry Mc often bristled at the new environment he worked in under the new CEO. Also, prior to designing cars at JLR, Gerry designed.... women's lingerie. They wanted to crank up the price and were going to justify that by polishing their image? Jaguars already had an undeserved image because of James Bond. Their cars are better than Alfa Romeo and some Audis, but beneath the BMW 5 series and Mercedes E class. They're well known for coolant issues and overheating. They're well known for timing chain and tensioner failures. They have air suspension failure issues. They have electrical gremlins. Besides being an idiot for the gay fever dream nonsense, he's an idiot for trying to capture the ultra wealthy with cars that aren't as good as BMWs and Mercedes. I've brought this up before, but pay attention to this line:
" Gerry McGovern, the architect of Jaguar’s 2024 woke ad and rebrand that caused a 97.5% sales collapse..." There is no way any company dependent on sales survives a 97.5% sales collapse, even if they are a subsidiary of something much larger. Jaguar at best will from now on just be a marquee nameplate for some of Tata's other divisions. For example, I can see a Luxury nameplate with a Jaguar nameplate on it. But nothing much more than that. Their great "all-EV" launch is never going to happen, the big new plant in the UK will never be completed. We're so edgy and transgressive in our matching generic experimental couture and manufactured androgynous looks. Y'all look pretty much the same. Nothing unique there at all.
——- It’s a uniform. Back in the 60s, someone commented “all the non-conformists look so alike, I can’t tell them apart.” This isn’t a grass-roots organic thing, neither was the Swingin’ 60s. Hair, dress, immediately set one apart from the “Squares”, as intended. Us vs. Them. Young versus old. “Make Love Not War”, fucking for peace! Free Love! In the 1980s the homosexuals in San Francisco howled at any suggestion that hygiene played a role in the spreading of AIDS. Hundreds or thousands of anonymous buggery partners was quickly determined to be the cause, but they claimed that venereal diseases were strikes against “sexual fascism” or somesuch. The leftists are all crazy, and they are shaping public policy for decades now. Posted by: Common Tater at December 04, 2025 12:35 PM (bssx/) 195

The whole big picture is kind of funny in a macabre sort of way. You can't tell me that an Indian Conglomerate acquiring and taking over an historically well known British company (always associated with the UK) wasn't partially motivated by what the British did through the British East India Company starting in the 1600's and leading to the British Raj in the 1800's.
Sure, the Indian Conglomerate hoped to make money in the process, but I'm sure there was an underlying feeling of "How do you like it Lymie?" The funny part being that no one is making any money. I like vintage Jaguars. During the plandemic we were in Sun Valley during Octoberfest. Back when people still had to wear masks in restaurants. Once I was finished eating I took our 2yr old grandson in his stroller outside to hang out. I taught him the streetlight colors and we were having a fine time. It does not take much to entertain me or a toddler, same mindset.
A couple drove up and parked to get take-out in a vintage Jag. The guy (who may or may not be famous but looked familiar) and I talked while his female passenger went inside. Blonde and good looking dude. I guessed correctly that his Jag was British Racing Green. He'd had it trucked in for his vacation as so precious. Probably from the 50's or 60's but I am no expert. I said, well, I would have ridden in it here the entire trip. Then added because I am a redneck and he laughed. Now that car I'd drive. The ones today are nothing special and look like other cars. Aside from the Jaguar rebranding fiasco, you can’t deny Gerry McGovern did a great job especially with the 2012-2025 Land Rovers/Range Rovers, they all look great Interesting play. Lose the guy that makes your cars the ones people want to buy despite every other factor against them. Or has Gerry been holding them back getting those other factors right the whole time? I like the new Defender, I just don’t like the ridiculously complicated engine setup…ticking $$$$ time bomb. As far as it depends on the Jaguar side, it’s deserved. As far as it depends on the money making side, it’s confusing unless you account for the rear end of the new Range Rover. Then I get that. (I don't understand, but it sounds negative and referenced Jaguar) Jag needs to sell boring SUVs so one day they may produce interesting coupes and sedans again.

Btw - as of today, England now produces Zero automobiles. Even Rolls Royce has been sold to the Germans. They don't build any aircraft anymore either, although they do build a few spare puts for the Airbus models.
They don't have any active coal mines anymore. They don't have much of a high tech industry, either, since they can't afford the electricity to run such things anymore. Posted by: Maj. Healey at December 04, 2025 12:52 PM (abIsI) Not anymore. Not with the Ingenium engines specifically. They have issues yes - but as long as you change their oil at 10k or less intervals, they have proven to be remarkably reliable. There are some Defenders out there that have more than 300,000 miles on them. The whole "Land Rovers are junk" came from a period in time before the current manufacturing process were put in place. The Rover V8 was largely a buick engine that was notorious for eating head gaskets. The early air suspension systems were problematic. These things are largely resolved in modern day LR. The Defender itself is made in Slovakia in a factory where assembly is 95%+ automated/robotic. Posted by: Defenestratus at December 04, 2025 12:59 PM (WYStd) 330

Posted by: Truck Monkey at December 04, 2025 01:04 PM (Bo9Yf) Which would probably have been more entertaining and memorable. Posted by: Warai-otoko at December 04, 2025 01:06 PM (06Hmj) Posted by: Don Black at December 04, 2025 01:06 PM (TiXPa) 367
Posted by: Defenestratus ============ So to be clear on the facts, they're not making ICE cars at all anymore? They're all-EV? lol if that's the case and it was supposed to be conveyed in that woke ad, add another level of fail to it. Posted by: Blonde Morticia at December 04, 2025 01:07 PM (cjpWA) 368

The queen mother of all parodies (whomever that may be) could not have come up with a more stupid ad in the history ads if they tried. It is simply beyond parody. It's staggering in its ugly wokeness, to the point where it really causes a feeling of revulsion. Posted by: Lady in Black =========== Advertisers have put awful products in beautiful packages, but this ad is aesthetically awful, badly done from beginning to end! What a wonderful world we live in.
Now you don't have to live in Hershey, PA to make a living as a fudge packer. It appears to be the #1 growth industry in the world. No other skills or personality required. Just let everyone in the world know you have this skill and your livelihood is assured in any industry, along with endless praise and worship by the media and Pam in HR. It's almost like some kind of establishmentarian anti-punk ethos.
Punk says "thank you for noticing that we're weird and we hate you, and for hating us in return. That is how it should be." This cloying cultural garbage says "how dare you notice that we're weird and that we hate you, and hating us in return, now bend to our will, dammit." It's all just smooth brained theater kid passive aggression, and has been for decades. Posted by: Warai-otoko at December 04, 2025 01:10 PM (06Hmj) 375

The actors should have been professional dancers, the faces should have all been youthful and smooth, I could go on, but it was on the level of a PTA production, no offense to parents and teachers.
Posted by: Blonde Morticia at December 04, 2025 01:04 PM (cjpWA) I think he picked them out of meth head zombies on the street and put them in clown clothes. Some are fresh from border crossings. This sums up the attraction for me. My main focus was on the first "thing" in the weird fur bottom pants, who walked like he/she/it was having what we call an "urgent call." When any of my men say this I know it is time to find a loo or a bush stat (if in the wild). The question I have is why it took them so long to fire the guy who thinks he's Spock in his black turtleneck. I guess the HIV is in what is left of his brain to come up with this, or he took the brown acid and was desperate for a pitch one marketing meeting. A buddy in college had a LR Discovery. Had the brushguard, roof rack, cables connecting the two to deflect tree branches and all that. Badass rig! We called it the Rhino Hunter.

Posted by: Warai-otoko at December 04, 2025 01:10 PM (06Hmj) Punk culture was essentially a reaction against socialism. The anarchist bent to it was understandably a juvenile response, but the sentiment was based on a real understanding the a government managed economy, combined with fascist law enforcement was something to be rebelled against. Vauxhall, formerly GM but now part of Stellantis, is still in production. We had a diesel van from them when visiting a couple of years ago, with a 5-speed manual, and it was "quite good."

This reminds me a thread in the Canadian mini-series "Slings and Arrows", in which the CEO of a marketing company called "Froghammer" convinces the naive head of a theater festival to run a marketing campaign that deliberately insults the festival's patrons. In the end, Froghammer's CEO is found to be a lunatic, who is arrested and returned to the asylum from which he had escaped. With the Jaguar folly, once again life imitates art - except that here, the lunatic remains on the street searching for another enterprise to destroy.

Rolls Royce aircraft engines and automobiles are not the same company.
Most R-R Merlins were built in the US, by Packard. The Wright Cyclones in the B-17, and the B-47's jets, were Studebakers. Posted by: Way, Way Downriver at December 04, 2025 01:37 PM (zdLoL) 412
