You know how the Angel ended up on top of the Christmas tree don't you?
Santa had the worst day imaginable: the elves were on strike, the reindeer were sick, Mrs. Claus was nagging, and half the toys were broken. He was in a foul mood, stomping around the house cursing. Just then there’s a knock at the door. He yanks it open and there stands a little angel, cheerfully dragging a big Christmas tree behind her. The angel smiles brightly and says, “Merry Christmas, Santa! Where do you want me to put this tree?” Santa glares at her and snaps: “Why don’t you shove it up your ass?!” …And that, children, is how the angel ended up on top of the Christmas tree. When I was a kid we always put that aluminum tinsel the tree, piles of it. We were also in a house with a new nylon carpet, the kind where if you scuff your tennis shoes on it you can build up a charge and shock people with your finger. (We did that constantly to each other, and to a poor dog who wasn’t happy about it at all)
So when the Christmas Tree was up and covered with tinsel you could scuff your tennis shoes and stand about 2 feet away all that tinsel would go horizontal and wave in the air at you. It was Cool. (Unless you actually touched the tinsel and then you’d get a bright blue spark with a big CRACK! for your troubles) Posted by: Tom Servo at December 01, 2025 07:52 PM (3U2FH) 74

In the small town of Newton Falls, OH there is a covered bridge, one of only a few in the state still open for everyday traffic. In the mid 80s, the town suffered a really bad tornado. The tornado came close to it, but the bridge was totally undamaged. Also, there were a couple busloads of kids heading for a roller rink. The buses had weather alert and sought shelter. The roller rink was leveled minutes later.

In the 60's , myself along with three of my four brothers including my father sold Christmas trees. We also sole tinsel and ornaments. My mother had a very nice collection of beautiful ornaments. She also has a set of bubble lights that had colored water that would bubble when they heated up. Our tree was magical as all of Christmas was back then. ( know it is improper to begin a sentence with a prepesitional phrase. shh dont tell Sister Dorothy)
FYI I've seen referenced here in the past: German glass ornaments are a type of Christmas , decoration that originated in the German town of Lauscha in the 16th century. They are traditionally made of blown glass and come in a variety of shapes and colors. Today, German glass ornaments are still made in Lauscha and are highly sought after by collectors. That red cat in the Xmas tree looks much like my late red tabby part-Coon, Arizona. Fortunately he never tried climbing into the Xmas trees we had from '83 to '85. By his second year he weighed twelve pounds, and by the third, fourteen.
Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at December 01, 2025 08:24 PM (wzUl9) You misspelled orange. We had a snow episode here just before Xmas in '89. I got home and let Arizona out into the little enclosed "patio" where we lived, to see how he'd handle it. He padded calmly around, turning up his nose to the flakes. I got cold before he did and ushered him back inside.

Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at December 01, 2025 08:30 PM (UFCEZ) There were rumors this weekend that he'd escaped to Brazil, Iran or China. But I just read an article where he's been spotted in Caracas for the first time in four days. Maduro, who usually appears on Venezuelan television multiple times a week, had not been seen in public since Wednesday – when he posted a video of himself driving around Caracas on his Telegram channel – leading to intense speculation as to his whereabouts. On Sunday, he appeared at an annual specialty-coffee awards event in eastern Caracas. At the end of the event, he chanted that Venezuela is “indestructible, untouchable, unbeatable” while speaking about the nation’s economy. "Dexedrine" -
Brave AI: In the 1950s, "mini thin pills" commonly referred to amphetamine-based diet pills, which were widely prescribed and used for weight loss, particularly among women. These pills, such as Dexedrine, were marketed to help women achieve a slim figure and were often promoted as a solution to the societal pressure of maintaining a perfect, thin appearance. Amphetamines were readily available and prescribed to help women lose weight and manage the stress of their domestic roles. I guess the Black Beauties came later. Posted by: Kindltot - dredging up some German out of the Scheldt estuary at December 01, 2025 08:49 PM (rbvCR) Well, there's some sort of a system. The first character indicates Province. Alberta is all "T*** ***". B.C. is "V". And if the last digit is zero, I think that denotes a P.O. box. I do know they are a PITA to type, alternating between cap letters and numerals. And consequently harder to memorize. "ABC 123" is a lot easier to remember than "A1B 2C3". Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at December 01, 2025 09:05 PM (npFr7) 274
