A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving Open Thread

I don't know if this video will work for you. It's only a matter of time before it's taken down due to copyright.

First, a little ambiance for you when you're cooking or eating:

Next, the actual special, if these clips haven't been taken down yet.

Here's a back-up post containing the special.

If neither of those work, here are some clips, at least.

Here's a clip of the actual dinner Charlie Brown and Snoopy put together. I think it's just popcorn and toast.

1 Naturally, I put this up on the last post ten seconds before a new one went up.

Turkeys from space?

“Tryptophan, the essential amino acid behind the Thanksgiving myth that eating turkey can make you sleepy, has been found to exist on Bennu, a small asteroid that swings by our planet about every six years.”

https://tinyurl.com/2wurps32

I didn't know tryptophan's properties were a myth.

6 This little banner script is getting more and more complex, I added logic to detect if either shuf (linux) or gshuf (macOs) is present and to use the correct one to shuffle the phrases.

So to summarize, the script uses Figlet and lolcat to display a randomly selected phrase with a randomly selected figlet font, every time you open a terminal, you can turn it off and on by setting an environment variable, and it will automatically turn off if you are in tmux or the working directory is my coding directory.

Why'd I do this?

Don't know, just wanted to do a little shell scripting and one thing led to another.

Also 3D printing a Star Wars Diorama and later a Japanese Alley Book Nook.

Turkey Girl
Camille Pissarro

But when I was in the Balkans in 2021, I routinely saw "turkey herders" along the side of the road in Albania and Montenegro. They'd have a large shepard's crook, a flock of birds, and they'd move their herd along the roadside, with the birds eating bugs and seeds, and occasionally someone driving on the road would pull over and buy one on the spot.

67 Penguins form their nests in holes in the ground, and generally lay one egg in each nest. The eggs are an excellent food.

A correspondent, writing from Tristan d’Acunha, in September, gives an account of his adventures in taking penguins’ eggs:

"Fancy what work, to stand amid hundreds of the birds, all screaming round you, so as almost to deafen you, tumbling them here and there, and picking up their eggs as fast as you can gather them! It is really amusing sport. I must remind you the kicking them over with soft moccasins does not hurt them in the least, and the next day they will have just as many eggs."

72 We have all seen in recent years how some billionaires have aligned themselves with elitist, left-wing causes (George Soros and Pierre Omidyar, immediately come to mind). There are a few tycoons, however, who prefer to keep a low profile, particularly with respect to their more controversial activities. One such individual is the shadowy Geetus L. Mazuma, known far and wide as the Frozen Pizza King.

An interesting and well-researched investigative report appeared the other day in the highly reliable Paco World News Daily (PWND), which exposed Mazuma’s role in providing substantial support to communist front organization Penguin Facts. For years, Mazuma has been attempting to corner the market on anchovies, and the eradication of penguins, his main rival in the harvesting of this fish, is a goal which Penguin Facts is assisting him in reaching. So, ironically, the comrades at Penguin Facts are serving as the running dogs of Mazuma’s peculiar form of capitalism. As the saying goes, “follow the money”.

Ironically I think it was the WoT that pushed the CIA into becoming a completely anti-American org. Not that there weren't issues before then but you can find clear examples of them acting on America's behalf.

But during the WoT the left decided that trying to win the war was rayciss and wrong and instead America needed to lose. And one of the more important orgs to do that was the CIA...

And the funny part of all this, very few people would have believed in 2001 that the US could lose a war to a bunch of goatf*ckers and yet here we are.

We've gone from we have to fight them over there to we have to bring them here and give them welfare because uh...diversity.

167 Watched football with the family today. I don’t have any cable or satellite so haven’t watched TV in ages. I can’t believe how many commercials there are. How do people put up with this? How did I use to do it?

Posted by: Its Go Time Donald at November 27, 2025 05:43 PM

I have watched NFL RedZone since its inception. Prior to this year, it was 100% commercial free football. It ruined me for watching any football, NFL or college, in real time. The commercials are ridiculous.

Change possession, commercial. Score, commercial. Come back for kickoff and possession change, then go to commercial. Any timeout, commercial. It's even worse than it used to be because most commercials are annoyingly woke and stupid now as well.

This is the only time I'll watch live football. It's been NFL Redzone or watch DVR'd games and FF through commercials for me for at least the past decade.

168 "She has a mortal wound. It's not going to be a recovery." - Clyde Shelton

That poor young woman. God help her, and her family.

However big a fanatic you are, what would prompt you to come clear across country to do this horrible deed? Was it to gain maximum attention (the U.S. capital as the setting, the heart of Trump's "dictatorship")? I hope there is some way this pig swings. If not, perhaps he can be Epsteined.

169 Just finished dinner - putting turkey carcass in freezer b/c there's just no room for broth in my fridge.

Only 2 tupperware containers of turkey left (so one more dinner). I should have made another 5lbs if turkey if I knew my boys (and our bachelor guest) where gonna get 4th and 5ths of it. I do have enough sides for 2 meals, so there's that.

One year, I should literally just make turkey, homemade gravy, and cran sauce (which is also almost gone - it was my favorite thing I made). Make 30 lbs of turkey and probably still have the 7 folks happy...

Thank you Amazon for having the 20lber so cheap. Small one is still in my freezer for a different time.

Rule change this year, so folks would only run a few yards and not reach top speed before hitting each other...

FFS. I'd mourn but I am pissed because she shouldn't be in that position. And NOT because she joined the NG - because the government failed her and the country at its most basic function.

Sad to see young Americans at breaking point like this.

I tried warning what was coming for two decades, but the state did everything in their power to silence me.

America is quickly becoming like Europe.

Resist it while you can.

176 Gourmand ≠ Gourmet. If you have plebian tastes, you are more likely a gourmand than a gourmet. A gourmand likes eating; a gourmet likes eating well.

FWIW, the death penalty is supposed to be on the table for the jihadist.

Which.... I find conflicted by. Would it be better to have him gang raped in an all male prison? For life.

YMMV

185 Two things that dominate a modern NFL broadcast:
1. Face time for the referees; yellow flags thrown on almost every play
2. Commercials… especially gambling commercials. FanDuel anyone?

Defeatist cynicism is the arrogance that we too know an outcome - we do not. Our Creator expects us to fight for good until HE ends the game, not us.
