Wednesday Morning Non-Rant

Giving Thanks

Thanksgiving gives us an opportunity to reflect on the good in our lives. The day to day can be dull or even pretty lousy and there will always be particularly bad days and personal disasters. In bad years, many days be will be of this type. Thanksgiving is an opportunity to take a step back and consider our blessings, even when we might otherwise forget that we have them.

Blessings are manifold, despite the tribulations. Thanksgiving is a holiday rooted in tribulation, from the informal celebrations of often hard-pressed colonists in early New England to its relatively recent form first proclaimed during the depths of war in 1863. It wasn't formalized in law until just before WWII, but by then it was a formality (though it did, of course, provide much cause for disagreement in the particulars).

Some are alienated. Some are poor. Some are disabled. Some are depressed. Some are in pain. All of these and more are real, and can feel as if they define us. Stepping back, taking a breath, and counting blessings is important. While many things may be bad, not all things are bad, and Thanksgiving helps us to acknowledge that which is good.

So long as one is able to acknowledge and experience gratitude, Thanksgiving is all things to all men. It is serious and joyful. It is a solemn reflection as well as a lighthearted celebration. It is religious if you want it to be, or secular if that is your preference. Gratitude as such is worth celebrating, and Thanksgiving helps us recognize and celebrate it. Family, faith and the fact of life itself are all worthy of gratitude!

Whatever your situation this Thanksgiving, I fervently hope that you have the opportunity to consider that for which you are thankful, and that your have a joyous and hopeful holiday!

10 I recently befriended a gay couple who was evicted from their family when they came out.

They are living with a friend until they get back on their feet, one of them lost a job due to no fault of their own around the same time.

I think most of us here take the roof over our heads for granted. I am definitely thankful I have a safe and warm place to lay my head every night.

28 I really don't trust many polls but one came out saying that the midterms are not looking good.

On the one hand we have Trump, head of the Republican party settle 8 conflicts around the world, cut inflation from 9% to 2.6% while real wages are rising, deep state being cut down to size (a bit), chucks out 2MM illegals thus far, cuts taxes for workin' folk.

And the Pedocrats are 5% ahead for the midterms. All while the Pedos have done nothing but run a color revolution and release their military auxiliaries.

0ne of the most powerful hymns the church has for Thanksgiving is "Now thank we all our God" by Martin Rinkhart. He was a Lutheran pastor in a walled city during the Thirty Years War . ( 1600s) He wrote it to encourage his children to thank God even in difficult times.

Yup. People consciously don't trust the media. Trust in the media is at a historic low.

But that doesn't mean that the other side gets filled in just because when asked on a poll and you think of it you say you don't trust the media. The ubiquity of the legacy media plays a role, in generally getting people to believe something.

After all, the more you hear a statement the closer your brain comes to perceiving it as true. The brain is even more an organ of recognition than rigor.

Oddly, while driving yesterday I caught an NPR piece on Obamacare and the massive rate increases coming. It went through all the reasons for them and to my surprise it was mostly fair and accurate. But... as a result, we saved a lot and we're able to retire - slightly - before we start taking social security.

my worst Thanksgiving was the year my mom passed away. My bro and I went to a restaurant near his house...the food was near inedible.
I don't know how anyone can mess up Thanksgiving dinner, but that place certainly did. If the food had been at least passable, it *may* have lessened the sting of Mom being gone.

Smart enough. The news is always centered around conflict and bad things while the good news is often not covered or covered very incompletely. As a profession, they rank right up with politicians for those personality types.

Finally! It should have been dropped when Fani Willis was disqualified, but the Georgia Supreme Court was too timid to go that far, instead asking that some other Prosecutor take it over. Everyone in Fani's office was barred from taking it, so they had to look to some other prosecutor's office in Georgia. EVERY Prosecutor in Georgia turned it down and refused to touch it, it was sucn an obvious stinkbomb. So the guy in charge of getting another Prosecutor to take that case said "ok I'll do it myself."
Which was ridiculous, he never had the resources or staff to even touch something like this.
So he finally wised up and bailed. And it's over.

I don't know how many times my wife and I try out a new restaurant, really like it, and during the meal the waitress tells us, oh we're closing this is our last night. An uncanny number of times, like statistically impossible. I don't know how we were chosen for this, but I think we're the restaurant grim reaper.

I'm thankful for McCain, Romney, Paul Ryan and others for failing so hard they gave us Trump, who thankfully got Drudge, National Review, The Weekly Standard, and the rest of GOPe Inc to expose and destroy themselves lol.

Aside from personal family things, I am pretty Thankful Trump 2.0 seems to have learned a lot from his first term, and is taking immigration VERY seriously, despite the non-stop resistance. I'm also thankful SCOTUS has been much more willing to step in, shut down lower court overreach nonsense, and overturn bad legal precedents despite decades of prior allowance. May it continue into next term!

I keep tabs on the alt right influencers and many of them have went toward outright anti Semitic fantasies and relied on the confluence between secular Jews in the West and leftism. Such is the stupid argument that Charlie Kirk was killed by Mossad because it could not be a troon boy lover shooting at short range.

So the whole religion of Judaism and Israel become the scapegoat of the West for idiotic decision made by their own politicians to strip their wealth, take their futures away, and bring in foreigners of every nasty disposition to displace them.

My favorite is the Alastair Sims version, but my second favorite is the Muppet version - because it's really just a solo performance by Micheal Caine with some muppets for him to interact with, and he does a typically brillant job.

Speaking of not real life...

I've said this here before but the internet itself was sold on a complete lie that it was going to be this great repository of knowledge, right? The information superhighway and all that bullshit. Total crock. The internet is basically TV for the 21st century. By that I mean "for entertainment purposes only."

Folks, teach this to your grandchil'uns. You teach them film and TV is pretend, you should go the same with the internets. It's all pretend (and with ten times more advertising).

290 As I started approaching 29, I occasionally found myself indulging in the "If Only"s.

If only I'd done this, if only I'd done that...not that I hated my life or anything like that. I just felt I might've done better.

Then one night I suddenly realized, when I examined the whole idea thoroughly, that any of those changes giving me a "perfect" life, would mean that I wouldn't have the lovely and exciting Mrs naturalfake or the kiddos.

And no that would simply be intolerable. They are the best thing in my life and we as a family, despite our ups and downs, despite some hard times, have been very blessed by God.

And furthermore, I was being a huge dickweed to God by not acknowledging his complete generosity and being grateful for it. So, I decided that I needed to change the way I think.

I try to end every day thanking God for my life and my family I grew up in and my own family now, and for the day.

Anyway, these are the things in my life i'm most thankful for.
