55 Morning, Art-o-philes,

This is a nicely detailed painting with a lot to pick apart. Or "unpack," as we say today. The textures of the chair and bedside table, the mattress, sheets, and wallpaper, and the women's hair are all fascinating. There's color with the red blanket and the nurse's blonde locks; and the mattress's stripes add interest.

It is odd that the girl in the bed is facing the wall instead of having her head closest to it. Wonder why.

On the table, I suspect that dark bottle might be some laudanum.

That would be funnier in a world where sepsis didn't exist. 1892 (the year both of Vallotton's painting here and of that Charlotte Gilman story I noted) was a world where it did exist.

58 My thoughts on seeing the image of this painting:

My parents owned a chair just like that one.

I can imagine the side table being moved towards the bed.

The artist doesn't want the patient's face visible to the viewer because the face of a sick person would detract from the rest of composition. The subject of the work is the angel of mercy walking through the doorway. She glows, perfectly poised with q cup of goodness in hand.

The door and doorframe, the bed frame, the carpet, the glassware especially that long necked flagon sitting where it could easily be knocked over with no table space for dispensing.

It's amazing how many people just assume that water emerging from some natural source is perfect.

There was a "natural" water source near where I grew up, and people would bottle the water, and then often get sick from bacterial contamination.

97 Felix liked to paint nude gals, which is probably all I'd do if I was a painter and not an engineer. There is rarely a need to incorporate nude women standing around into aerospace work.

There was a brief time during the Marilyn Monroe compressibility area rule days, "hey honey, just keep still for a few minutes more, we almost got it this time". But that was all before I was born.

108 Felix liked to paint nude gals, which is probably all I'd do if I was a painter and not an engineer. There is rarely a need to incorporate nude women standing around into aerospace work.

Given the frequency with which he, apparently, did that, you'd think he'd be better at it.

109 The art....

The bed is oriented so that the patient faces the wall. The staff can look thru the windows in the door to see if the patient is sleeping. The tallest bottle looks like a wine bottle. The next tallest seems to be a carafe so that's probably water. Small brown bottle is likely laudanum. Nurse/maid is bringing a nice cup of tea.
I suspect the patient is recovering from childbirth.

The reflection on the side of the carafe is kind of fascinating.

Nice one CBD!

Better to be on Orson Welles than to have Orson Welles on you, amirite?

114 I’ve never stepped into the art thread before. Too intimidated because I don’t get art…. this picture confirms my cluelessness… the only thing it does for me is make me mildly annoyed I can’t see the face of the woman in the bed

She has a lovely neck; the kind you'd like to nuzzle.

115 Kind of a loose garment on the patient. The reason we can't see her from the front is because she has some really nice tits.....and with the loose garment, well, you know.

116 The nurse/maid's forehead is much paler than the rest of her face. Even if you discount the rouge on her cheeks, her jaw and chin are much redder than her forehead. Perhaps she wears a hat or scarf when she goes out, and the lower part of her face gets the sun while the forehead does not?

127 >>> Subvert that paradigm!
Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo at November 28, 2025 10:05 AM (n9ltV)

Sorry I just finished this years computer based training, they have a whole course on it,

"Subverting the Paradigm And Why You Should Never Do It and Shoot Anyone That Does",
Here's a random photo of Chad, look at that jacka** subverting the paradigm, what should you do in this circumstance?:
A. Notify a security guard that Chad needs Shot.
B. Notify HR that Chad needs Shot.
C. Notify your manager to notify HR that Chad needs shot.
D. All the above***
(*** it's always D all the above dummy, just select all the above, don't be a paradigm subverting chad)

I selected D because I didn't want to take the terrible training again and I respond surprisingly well to Operant Conditioning.
