This isn't something I would hang but I rather like the technique. It is expressive. The color scheme reflects the worn buildings and how they are fading into the stark background. But the town isn't abandoned or defeated, just reduced. The hint of occupation is encouraging and shows resilience. The longer I look at it, the more I'm impressed. There is a "endeavor to persevere" vibe to it.
I looked at some of his other paintings. The style reminded me of some of the WPA paintings that were used in public buildings back in the 1930s. Posted by: JTB at November 20, 2025 09:55 AM (yTvNw) 125

"Street in Joliet" is a 1969 gouache on paper work by artist Aaron Bohrod, located at the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

The old Hook's Drug store chain started in Indianapolis. They have a building on the state fairgrounds that is a replica of the very first one. The Hook's Drugstore Museum.
Hook's Drugstores were gobbled up by CVS. Back in the early 1900's one could buy opium at a drugstore. No prescription needed. Now, CVS banned their stores from selling cigarettes and even lighters because they "want to stop encouraging people to continue an unhealthy habit". CVS still has a mile and a half of candy and soda, and junk food in every store. Posted by: Madamemayhem (uppity wench) at November 20, 2025 10:10 AM (2J/Lj) 168

In part, "Cheney, part of an old Republican guard quickly vanishing in the era of Donald Trump, died at 84 years old on Nov. 4 following complications from pneumonia and cardiac and vascular disease. Former President George W. Bush is set to speak at the funeral, and former President Joe Biden is expected to also attend. ..." 😲😬 And, of course, Liz Cheney will also speak. 😣 "A legacy shaped by Iraq invasion. Cheney is known as the architect of the war in Iraq. The Art: Its tough for me to get into this one. It invokes thoughts of a comic from the Sunday newspaper (remember those?) combined with a Thomas Kinkade overly glitzy treatment of a mundane scene. The use of color is nice. The scene is ok, a little interesting even. Its just a strange tone though.

I think Hopper, the Wyeths and Rockwell were as good as Da Vinci and Vermeer in that they were so effective in their works and abilities to use their materials. The styles, of course, and materials are very different but the level of talent is on a par. Being too evil to get invited to *Dick fucking Cheney's funeral* is certainly an accomplishment of some kind.
Epstein thought Trump was evil, too. When a fellow pedophile who rapes kids says you're worse than he is....you're basically as disgusting as they come Trump hated Cheney and vice-versa but this snub will definitely frost Trump's insecure ass. I am slightly disappointed we won't get to see Melania's funeral attire. Homegirl probably had the perfect gigantic hat for the occasion Uh, wasn't this Trump's selling point? He's "not a politician"? Doesn't this just re enforce that? Good for the Cheney family but it's no surprise or big deal. That's Trump's selling point but it's always been the opposite of who Trump is. He is a person who has always been desperate for the attention and approval of the elites. It's not that they are not invited. They were *specifically uninvited*, and that's an important difference. The old "a lie can travel halfway around the world while the truth is putting on its shoes", but worse because it's impossible to prove "the truth", and those lying face no repercussions, so they can do it constantly. The Times of India, 'Commie' v 'Donnie' — Trump to meet Mamdani on Friday at White House
Chidanand Rajghatta / TNN / Updated: Nov 20, 2025 TOI Correspondent from Washington: "A frisson of excitement is coursing through Washington DC and New York City after President Donald Trump announced that he will be meeting Zohran Mamdani in the White House on Friday at the request of the New York City Mayor-elect, the first Indian-origin person voted to administer the global entrepot. Trump himself confirmed the engagement on his social media account on Wednesday night, posting “Communist Mayor of New York City, Zohran “Kwame” Mamdani, has asked for a meeting. We have agreed that this meeting will take place at the Oval Office on Friday, November 21st. Further details to follow!” Much more followed. U.S. employers added a surprisingly solid 119,000 jobs in September, the government said, issuing a key economic report that had been delayed for seven weeks by the federal government shutdown. The unemployment rate rose to 4.4% in September, highest since October 2021 and up from 4.3% in August, the Labor Department said Thursday. The unemployment rate rose partly because 470,000 people entered the labor market — either working or looking for work — in September and not all of them found jobs right away. The increase in payrolls was more than double the 50,000 economists had forecast.

G'day, y'all. Gray overcast and cooler after last night's deluge here in NE Okla. Still nice for November.
The painting struck me in three phases. First, the somewhat cartoonish style. Second, of course, the tilt of the scene. But that led to the only action in the painting, the fellow walking downhill. I was impressed that the stance did seem to effectively reflect the stride one assumes when walking down an incline like that. Nicely done in that, IMO. Got to go back and pick up on JJ's Report now.
