I'm fascinated by this Trench Crusade game that's supposedly coming out... Not in the sense that i'm ever going to play it, just by how there's a lot that's culturally fascinating about how popular it is before it even exists, and why. Thinking about the questions "why would they build their new world like this, why is it gaining so much traction, and is this a really good sign culturally even though it's so dark and brutal and almost blasphemous on its surface". I guess it's the "meta" about it I find fascinating. Even though nobody says "the meta" anymore. But you know what I mean.

Posted by: Accomack at November 13, 2025 04:55 AM (Dpv2s) At what point is a hoax not a hoax? Part of being a hoax is that it's clever enough that the average person believes it because they don't really have any motivation or suspicion to not immediately believe it. But beyond some line, you're just bullshitting and only the most thoroughly committed acolytes even pretend you're not full of shit. Looks like the new high tech digital heat pump system we put in back in March blew a zone control board the night before last. But the system was smart enough to put itself in central control mode, and still maintained he house within 1 degree of set-out, even with a low of 28 degrees overnight. And all without using supplemental heat strips to produce heat. So...pretty pleased with it. Posted by: Village Idiot's Apprentice at November 13, 2025 05:24 AM (a1415) 69

Yeh, that is a little disconcerting. Let's hope that it was a one-off, as the zone boards do have a solid reputation for reliability and longevity. But it is interesting with all the instrumentation that I have available to me, including energy consumption tracked and graphed in 15 minute increments from our utility provider. I can literally see on the usage plot where the coffee pot energizes on the timer, and begins to heat up. Interesting bits of trivia to play with, when the cats wake you up at 0415, and there is no chance of returning to sleep, so you find things to occupy the time.
