"Turning Point USA" is hosting an event on campus (at which Charlie Kirk was originally scheduled to headline), and the Berkeley anti-Semitic alliance of Leftists and Islamists are trying to shut it down. Not that many famous people but certainly a lot of rich people. At the time it was the biggest resort hotel in the Caribbean and people came from all over the world. Love Scotland but enjoyed Ireland as well. One ruins of a castle in Ireland (somewhere near Killarney)...and I think Ballycargery Castle. I am very vague with details when I travel. I know I did not kiss the Blarney Stone as, well, I am neurotic. I was there, however.
Anyway, to get up to the castle ruins we had to walk through a pasture with Irish cows eating new spring grass. Which gave them bad diarrhea (I prefer our toddler son's words: dire rear). I still remember my DIL laughing as I pushed my way through the cows which were following them. The rest of them being not country girls were alarmed about the cows. I was mostly alarmed because they all had dire rear. A holy place on the drive was Muckross Abbey. I seriously wanted to be buried there and I was reasonably sober at the time. Super mad at Cromwell for destroying it. I am glad we went with our son and DIL pre grandchildren to various countries. He was always our tour guide and personal driver. Zombie, you've put in more than your dues going to these hellholes over the years. Sit back with a drink and bask in a job well done, and leave it to the youngins to pick up the social media torch. Crowder supposedly filmed a convo with a furry in his new "Change My Mind" campus visit, but I haven't seen it yet. He said it haunted him that he stopped doing the campus visits because they got too dangerous, but he never warned anyone outside his team. He feels partially responsible for Charlie's death. He has NOTHING to apologize for, the only person responsible for killing Charlie is the assassin. But it's good of him to pick up the torch again with Charlie gone and go back to campuses, knowing the huge risks. One of the girls he talks with cannot get over the fact that Crowder calls his new girlfriend "My lady" or "My woman." She's a non-woke Latina, she probably likes "her man" a little possessive verbally. From my experience. Posted by: LizLem at November 10, 2025 07:22 PM (Eng1Z) 47

Unsolicited advice for ace- I have a little sign I read every day. It says: Motivation is bullshit, if you’re feeling tired and weak, then do it tired and weak. It helps. I find I can’t sleep if I don’t work out and then I feel tired and weak and don’t work out, becomes a cycle. But sometimes I just feel blah anyway. Commit to giving it ten minutes, once you start you’ll feel better and keep going. Or don’t, who the hell am I to tell you what to do?

Anti-penguin bigotry has been a blight in our country from early days. Even Alexis de Tocqueville commented on the phenomenon in his Democracy in America, as revealed in the following passage. “One singular characteristic of America's democratic temperament is the engendering of a profusion of ideas, some leading to genuinely useful innovations in every imaginable field of endeavor, others, unfortunately, to the spread of delusional philosophies, harmful public policy and even the destruction of individual reason. For example, I was circumambulating a park in the vicinity of the White House while visiting in the national capital, and came upon a corner which had the appearance of a conventicle of radical sectarians, attired, judging by the smell, in the cast-off habiliments of a community of hog drovers. They had set up a ramshackle collection of tents and lean-tos, and were busily haranguing passersby on the supposed evils associated with the family of flightless birds known as Spheniscidae. The stews of London do not contain a more diverse aggregation of cutpurses, unhorsed highwaymen, beggars, opium eaters, whores and bedlamites." I don't think Patterico even considers himself a conservative anymore. He's written not too long ago that he holds *all* Trump supporters *in contempt.*
I think he sold his soul to get ahead in the LA County District Attorney's office. Having a woke wife hasn't helped him either. Posted by: qdpsteve at November 10, 2025 07:34 PM (Ixlky) --- What's funny is that Trump is perhaps the most pure embodiment of Republicanism that has ever lived. The original platform called for protection for American industry, support for American agriculture and rising wages for the working man. He is restoring freedom of action to American foreign policy and prioritizing national defense over freeloading "allies." One of the tells about these people is that they drone on about Trump's character while ignoring that the "nice" George H.W. Bush almost drove his wife to suicide during a lengthy affair that was amazingly kept secret until both were dead. Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. I've been to Culebra a number of times. We had a relationship with a dive shop there and we'd take customers over there for a different dive spot. Vieques was still an active military training area while I was there and a source of real irritation with some of the locals so not that interesting. AH Lloyd, I generally agree. But all they can do is moan and piss about all the 'norms' Trump is breaking.
You should see the huge outcry they had over the new ballroom being built. They don't care that it's 100% donated funds, they still call it open graft and demand it immediately be torn down by the next Democrat president. What they want is a return to the old days where Republicans are nice to Democrats, and Dems return the favor by screwing them over every chance they get, then making excuses that "oh well, everything's not so bad. I can still eat steak on Sunday." They hate that anyone dares vote for someone they don't approve of. Posted by: qdpsteve at November 10, 2025 07:44 PM (Ixlky) 96

Tonight. PBS at 10 pm ET.
I remember way back during that time hearing about the war in Iraq and how our guys were conducting combat in a cemetery. I thought, what a great movie that could make. Well, this one tonight was made that come true covering that as well as a couple of other battles. PBS shelved it 17 years ago because they didn't believe what was depicted in the movie was reality and actual Marines used. [Great journalism is always conducted by ignoring what doesn’t fit in your worldview] It was premiered for Marines from WWII- the greatest generation. Those marines said these "boys" were far braver than they were and that they didn't know how they did it. The warfare wasn't as simple as just charging the enemy. These guys had to go door to door trying to decide in a heartbeat if a target was enemy or not. I look forward to watching it tonight. Patterico, once upon a time seemed all right. However as I have said before, I cannot think of one fucking thing in his writing that made him stand out.
Frank Fleming? Funny quirky humor Rachel Lucas? Girl with the dogs VDH? Amazing breadth of classical knowledge that comes through in just a few sentences. Derbyshire? I do not regret this douchenozzles exit because he was a shit for other reasons than his ham handed racial excursions. He had a clear, direct way of speaking that was nice- until you realize he was a sociopathic shit. But Patterico? He spoke on the law and crime, but for example Jack Dunphy was better. In different times, they would have been members in good standing of the movement, but the upheaval of our era has left them unmoored, without any core to fall back on, so they turn to fantasies in which they are the merciless commissars punishing the guilty. But my father and I came to an agreement: I go to graduation, he wears his uniform to the commissioning (for the last time ever it turned out). ROTC cleared my wearing blues under the gown. Done! So I go through graduation, heard the Mayor of San Antonio drone, go across the stage, blah blah blah. It's done. What was my father doing the whole time? Analyzing the coin. As a critic of individualism, Tocqueville thought that through associating with penguins, both in public and private, Americans would be able to overcome selfish desires, thus making both a self-conscious and active political society and a vibrant civil society functioning according to political and civil laws of the state. Clearly, Tocqueville never himself had any close associations with penguins.

Not to mention the obsession with connecting the military to the public since the draft ended. The thought is that if the NG and Reserves are heavily relied upon, this creates a connection between the military and civilian worlds. (You may disagree; I'm just repeating what I was told by senior officers back in the day.)

The magician builds a scrying pool which allows people to go back in time. But instead of physically going back in time, they go back to their body that existed at the time and have all the memories from the future. It was a nice idea. A neat Disney show "Best Friends Whenever" had two teen girls that could time travel but they ended up in their bodies too. If they went back before they were born, bad things happened. That did avoid the problem of running into yourself in the past.
