I thought I had heard every reason not to go on vacation until I read: Bear attacks in northeastern Japan deflate tourism amid peak fall foliage

MORIOKA (Kyodo) -- A steady stream of bear attacks in northeastern Japan is turning some tourists away from the region, hitting local businesses hard during the normally busy season of peak fall foliage.

In the Tohoku region, hotel bookings at hot spring resorts have declined sharply, public access to areas is often limited after bear sightings, and local governments are warning visitors to be vigilant about potential bear encounters.

With no immediate signs that tourists are likely to turn up at levels seen in previous years, businesses that rely on the traditionally lucrative period before winter are facing an uncertain future.

In the Gembi area of Ichinoseki, Iwate Prefecture, a man was found dead outside his house in late October after being fatally attacked by a bear.

Taking matters seriously? I for one am certainly relieved. Genius Award Winner.

CHESHIRE, Mass. (NEWS10) — The Berkshire District Attorney’s Office (BDAO) announced that Michael Alibozek, the chief of the Cheshire Police Department, was taken into custody on Thursday night. The 53-year-old Adams man is accused of trying to solicit sex in exchange for a fee.

Then there's the Ussuri Brown Bear. Those are some real mf'ers. The worst attack by one of those was in 1915. It attacked a village twice. After the first attack, it came back and attacked the funeral procession for the victims of its first attack.

Diversity fatigue. I actually worked for an India Indian computer company in Ohio

But if you really want diversity, there was a Canadian kid's show called "I Woke Up a Vampire" which was actually pretty good but the diversity. A girl turns 13 and finds out she's a vampire.

The girl is asian. Adopted by a black family. White male friend who works for a middle eastern guy at a comic book store. It put Star Trek to shame. And that's not even close to the most diverse show or movie.

If you have have inter-racial gay couples like 'Popularity Papers', you can check off a lot of boxes.

Older western entertainment or asian stuff for the win...

161 We don't go to theaters for movies and wait to stumble onto them online. Because we think we'd possibly be considered lunatics as we both laugh at weird stuff. Especially if the movie is pretty bad to begin with.

Dante's Peak with Pierce Brosnan is the one we laughed at tonight. In the traumatic lava scenes, etc. It was retarded.

For starters we saw him after the Eurostar brought us back to London from Paris with our then HS sons in 1999. Pierce was not yet married to his wife, and had the two children with him. The youngest, a toddler son, was screaming his head off from a stroller and Pierce, 007 himself, was pushing the stroller, saying quietly, "shutupshutupshutup."

Baby mama, now wife, had gone to the front of the customs line and was overheard by all saying, "Do you know who he is?" The customs guy told her to go to the end of the line and most of us smirked. She had a huge carry cart of LV luggage.

Our youngest son was star struck and I asked him not to stare. He then got mad at me, saying, "This is the first famous person I have seen!,"but they were behind us like peasants and didn't hear.

Since then I think of Pierce being defeated by his toddler son when I see him.

There were photos of this during Trump's first term. Imagine an aircraft with MARINES painted on the side sitting on a flight deck while the Rising Sun is snapping in the breeze above.

That right there is nightmare fuel.

Mom was the original white tornado (IYKYK), but dad would raise a 3rd floor window, back out into nothingness, grab the bottom of said window while I put a rag and a spray bottle in his free hand. He would then lower the window onto his legs and, spray bottle in one hand and rag in the other, proceed to clean said window. When he could no longer claim me as a dependent, he would send me out to clean said window..

200 My late MIL would probably clean a window like that. She was very OCD and lived without a speck of dust motes in the air, or a crumb on a counter. Just another reason to be horrified that her son picked me to marry.
When they came to visit in FL our sons remember me being a psycho lunatic to try to get our house clean. She always found something, even when I was feeling pretty good about it. Once, doing the dishes with me, she was helpful in telling me I needed to wrap yarn around a coathanger to clean the coils under the fridge. Which meant she was, at some point that visit, on her hands and knees looking under our fridge. My co-workers loved these horror stories when I'd tell them of her.

She and her spinster daughter would scrub walls twice a year as if they lived in London during coal fires. Plus wash the drapes twice a year. I do neither, by the way.

When she died my husband, on our realtor friend's advice, had to put charcoal in her immaculate condo. It reeked of cleaning solutions and moth balls. Seriously toxic levels (we had to air out our coats and sweaters after visits). We are pretty sure this explains a lot about the two of them.

204 Good even', y'all. Howdy, MisHum. Your usual hearty ONT, Thanky.

Before I get caught up on ~150 comments, a weather report. Two days ago, our high temperature was near 70. Then that wintry blast rolled in, bringing us down to the 20s last night. High only in the low 40s today, 20s again tonight.

We prepared as needed. Plants in from the front porch. Hoses drained, spigots covered. Thick hay mulch over the flower and herb gardens. Trying to remember how to dress for the cold. Been three decades since those long wintery months we suffered through in Chicago. (Heard they're having snow up there.)

But come Friday it'll be up in the 70s again, almost 80, with gusty winds out of the South, probably a couple of days of rain, but certainly not snow. Oklahoma in November. It was of this hyar Sooner State that Will Rogers quipped, if you don't like the weather, wait a minute.

Latest Attempt at Nuking Tracfone Moto g pure XT2163DL Android Malware 251110

GOALS: Kill MyHub malware app; Detach as much as possible from Google; Stop unwanted apps from installing themselves.

PROCEDURE: On a separate PC, I deleted ALL files from my Google Drive, in a best-effort attempt to delete any files that Drive might sync with the Android phone when it boots. But who can guess what other, non-Drive, resyncing persistent stores those a-holes have on their servers?

I went to motorola.com, (which now has a partner previously unknown to me, Lenovo,) and used their Win PC tool (“Software Fix,” a really stupid name for “Motorola Android Phone Firmware Reflash,” but whatever,) and their original factory firmware file, and a USB cable, to reflash it.

After the reflash, I went through all the initial setup steps, being very careful not to put my Google Login credentials in, and declining ALL prompts to “restore my data and/or apps.” Apparently, there is a mandatory “Accept” for a couple of “Google Services” which operate (presumably) without a Google Login; there was NO visible option to “Decline” or “Skip” that sh!t. (The a-holes can identify that it’s MY phone by its IMEI, at the very least.)

I note that the phone asked for my old PIN in here somewhere, even though the reflash was supposed to be, you know, a farging REAL reflash that was supposed to nuke ALL my old credentials and data.

After several broken promises that my “Phone is All Setup Now” (cycling through a couple repetitions of prior ‘Hell NO’ steps,) I went to Settings|Apps and immediately began uninstalling the sh!t apps that allow themselves to be uninstalled, and “disabling” the sh!t apps that won’t allow uninstall but do allow “Disable,” as if anybody believes they are really disabled.

Sure enough, there was farging MyHub (malware IMHO) again, not uninstallable, but “disableable,” which does jacksh!t IMHO. Sure enough, sh!t apps installed themselves as fast as I could uninstall them: TikTok, Temu, Pinterest, a sh!t-ton of sh!t games, etc.

After one session of this, when the apps seemed to stop installing themselves, I smooth-powered off the phone. Then I turned it back on, and let it idle for a while, to see what happens next.

Now more “Notifications.” ‘Mobile Services Manager’ now claims the blame for installing all the sh!t apps, except for MyHub (it has also now installed “GamesHub.”. In Settings|Apps, it mysteriously calls itself “Games” instead of “GamesHub,” and cannot be uninstalled, only “disabled.” Happy Happy Joy Joy.)

At this point, I have 47 apps. I went into Settings|Display to change the ridiculously short default screen timeout from 30 secs to 30 mins. I will do no other work or installs for awhile.

My next step after ‘awhile’ is to look in Settings for any other system updates that it might want to apply.

Then after a decent interval, I shall install a GPS compass app I really DO need for my radio-direction-finding setup. It comes from the Google Play Store app, of course, which I have been promised I can use without a Google Login; we shall see.

PS: I did not setup any Tracfone stuff. I do not use this thing as a phone at all, just as a portable computer.
