![]() Finland is doubling down on evidence from four years ago that definitively shows how children can avoid diseases and allergies throughout their lives if they’re permitted to get down and dirty in daycare. Dozens of comparative studies have previously found that children who live in rural areas and are in contact with nature have a lower probability of catching an illness resulting from disorders in the immune system—and a lower risk of developing coeliac disease, allergies, atopy, and even diabetes. A 2021 study conducted at a Finnish daycare and published in Science Advances showed that repeated contact with nature-like elements five times a week diversified the body’s microbes which offered protection against diseases transmitted through the immune system in daycare children. *** Each human individual is actually an environment in themselves: a host of trillions of microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, and fungi. These collectively outnumber our own cells 4-1, and are emerging as one of the most influential forces—if not truly the single most—in human health and function.Check out the whole thing. ----- Doggos are good for kids too. I could watch this all day!
![]() It’s not everyday that Henry the polar bear sees something that weighs more than he does. At 1,200-pounds, the polar bear is the world’s largest land predator, but here was something substantially heavier, and it was just sitting there in his enclosure. Defensive at first, Henry eventually dug into the sweet crunchy flesh of a giant, 1,400 lbs. pumpkin that was donated to the nonprofit that looks after him. The photos will steal a chuckle out of anyone.More photos at the link Valdir Segato, a Brazilian bodybuilder known for using synthol injections to enlarge his muscles, died on his 55th birthday. Segato had been injecting himself with synthol injections for years to increase the size of his biceps, chest, and back. This practice is risky and can lead to serious health issues such as strokes, infections, and even permanent muscle damage. *** Doctors had warned him as early as six years ago that continued use of synthol injections could lead to severe nerve damage, muscle deformities, or even limb amputation. Nevertheless, he pushed forward with his extreme bodybuilding goals, growing his biceps to 23 inches and earning the nickname “the monster” in his neighborhood. *** On the morning of his death, a neighbor named Moisés da Conceição da Silva said Segato appeared at their home struggling to breathe and begged for help, saying, “Help me because I’m dying.” He was taken to a local medical facility, but collapsed at the front desk, reportedly suffering a heart attack.Dude shoulda just called these guys (tracks played on SiriusXM channel "The Bridge" this evening) ![]() Posted with the full faith and confidence of a loosely connected affiliate of the Ace Media Empire. The Portuguese Navy has intercepted one of those home-made semi subs loaded with 1.7 metric tons of cocaine on board about 1800 Km out of Lisbon in the Atlantic ocean. The crew of 4, nationals from Venezuela, Colombia and Peru were taken off the boat to be interred at the Azores; the boat was not recoverable due to high seas, and its poor seaworthiness. The film of the interior showed water sloshing around, a powerful motor, and the rest of the gear pretty much zip-tied into position on the interior hull.

When I was diving in the Carib there was a group of treasure hunters hiring divers. The island are littered with old wrecks from the golden age and at least back then it was a bit of a wild west chase for treasure. You had to share with the country having jurisdiction but in theory there is a lot of gold down there. Chances of finding anything was pretty remote but that was the hook, a cut of the treasure. I stayed with the resort area and the free drinks. Posted by: JackStraw at November 06, 2025 10:39 PM (viF8m) 93

Love the NYC AI meme.
Mamdami is so tone deaf. I love it. The day after he asks the working poors to shell out their money for his transition campaign, and he snubs Hasan Piker by not letting him into his victory afterparty... One of his first major events after winning the mayoral election is going to be whisking away to a posh hotel in Puerto Rico. The Caribe Hilton, where the Pina Colada might have been invented. The optics! It is to laugh. Maybe his voters will have buyers remorse even before he gets sworn in, if he keeps it up. "The annual SOMOS conference acts as a policy summit for New York officials and others in the state's political sphere. Both Republicans and Democrats have been known to attend. This year, the event is taking place at the El Caribe Hilton in San Juan. The hotel's website bills it as an "iconic beachfront paradise" with "17 acres of tropical landscaping, nine restaurants, island-inspired rooms, spa, and oceanfront pool complex, all right on the beach." I feel bad Randy had the pot farm and now doesn't, has lost everything. But if anyone in South Park can screw up the cash crop of marijuana, it's Randy! "Shot while trying to escape" used to be a thing
Posted by: Vaguely recalled by Miklos. It is said that the commandant of a South American prison, having become bored with despatching prisoners and filling out the death certificate in the standard way - " shot while trying to escape" - decided, in a moment of sheer cynicism, to write on the death certificate, "Poisoned while trying to escape". Of course, cruising about on a pirate ship sometimes has its downside:

They say it's unsportsmanlike for a cop to shoot one running from him. If he did nothing wrong it will be adjudicated otherwise he's self deleting and saving the state money.

Well guys and gals, I've decided to take care of this "men in women's bathrooms" problem all by myself. Give me a few days.
The Plan: I will enter a woman's bathroom. Greet anyone present with a nice smile and a wave. Enter a stall. Leave the stall. AND,.....(drumroll), leave the seat up. They'll be kicking them all out in no time. Posted by: Orson at November 06, 2025 11:55 PM (dIske) Leave a floater, just for effect. ---------- Nice try, but as long as there's another bathroom, it won't make a difference. ---exasperated wives everywhere Posted by: JQ at November 07, 2025 12:37 AM (rdVOm) 213
Throughout the SHUTDOWN, Kennedy (LA) has an accurate handle on events. He thinks it may go through Thanksgiving.

Eh fuck this GOP caving shit, I think I am actually done with them after this
Someone can wake me up after they lose the WH in 2028 and it is about time for that overdue civil war I can't decide if the DC GOP doesn't know they'll be cursed as cowardly dipshits the next 3,000 years, or if they know but don't care. We are approaching a multi-millenial historical do or die point. Posted by: heya at November 07, 2025 12:43 AM (6SZeR) 216
I vouch for nothing here, but, yeah...
@zarazhangrui A Harvard student told me something I can't stop thinking about. When they go to the library, every single screen has ChatGPT open. Homework that used to take hours now takes minutes. But then they talk to alums who say entry-level roles are basically gone. The jobs they planned their entire college trajectory around don't exist anymore. AI made homework easier but made proving you deserve a job exponentially harder. Posted by: weft cut-loop at November 07, 2025 12:43 AM (mlg/3) 217
Well, got the wiring sorted out on the Avanti. Shift quadrant lamp and illumination LED's for the heater controls in the console are now wired to "accessories", as are the reverse lamps. Left side reverse lamp works, right one doesn't, but the wring is all in the trunk lid, so super easy to get at.
I made a good start on patching over the window I cut in the transmission tunnel to clear the servo housing on the transmission case. Cut a rectangle of 1/4" hardware cloth, and fastened it over the hole with a handful of tiny sheet metal screws. Pulled and prodded at the hardware cloth (which is wire mesh) with needle-nose pliers until it had the shape I wanted, and then plastered it with kitty-hair fiberglass filler. Got one coat of that on, and it has hardened, so another coat tomorrow. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at November 07, 2025 12:43 AM (npFr7) 218

End SNAP & EBT for all able bodied people. Maybe a little something for complete households with stay at home mom, a child under school age and the working father is coming up short.

Posted by: Idaho Spudboy at November 07, 2025 12:44 AM (utsBX) Privateers operated under a letter of Marque issued by their government, which made them "legal". I chuckle at the con job Barrett pulled on his crew in the song. "We'll cruise the seas for American gold, fire no guns, shed no tears." I doubt there was ever much Yankee gold to be had, most of the Revolution was financed on credit, wasn't it? Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at November 07, 2025 12:48 AM (npFr7) 222

I would just like to mention that the GPC 1502 Sapphire is an excellent cigar. Strong in effect, but mild in flavor and a pleasure to smoke. I really want to try the Emerald from that same line. Pity that they're about $20 each. Posted by: FeatherBlade at November 07, 2025 12:53 AM (R4610) 224
