Economy Unexpectedly Adds Solid 40,000 Private Sector Jobs in October

If that number sounds a bit low, that's because we usually talk about quarterly jobs figures, while this is the number for a single month.

It's not stellar, but it's solid, and it's many more than the "expert consensus" predicted.

The United States job market did better than expected in October in terms of job growth, with over 40,000 new private sector jobs.
...
It is important that these jobs were in the private sector, a marked contrast to the Biden administration's job market, when all the touted "job gains" were either in the federal government or going to immigrants.
In contrast, as of July, under the Trump administration, employment of American-born workers had reached a record high while jobs for foreigners declined. While legal immigrants can strengthen our economy, the decline in employment of U.S.-born men -- particularly blue collar workers -- was a serious Biden administration crisis which the Trump administration has corrected, partly by discouraging employment of illegal aliens.

Remember, the government is shut down which is causing economic disruption and decline. So 42,000 private sector jobs is a win.

Thing is...all that does is make the eventual fed gov beauracracy even more of a left zealot location. I doubt we want Lois Lerner looking at our taxes or Kamala Harris's best friend looking at our Medicare health decisions or Corey Booker's last fiance looking at our SS paperwork...we have to want normal, regular people to want the jobs as well, or fed gov is 100% lost even if Trump stays in power 100 years.

It's pretty stellar, Ace. Not the greatest ever, but better IMO than just "solid." As you pointed out, this is just private sector jobs over a single month.

But it was a month of federal dysfunction and shutdown, coming off a few months of sluggish job growth, and in a run-up to several important elections.

Put simply, there were hurricane-level headwinds coming for this report. 42k privates under those circumstances is very good.

There were six candidates for two city council seats, and the big winner by far was the former school resource officer (cop-in-residence) who utterly crushed it. Everyone loved him, and when my kids saw he was running, they were thrilled.

His position was eliminated by the school board because George Floyd overdosed, and someone had to suffer, so why not the guy whose personal presence seemed to just end conflict (not scary, just very calming). The person who fired him - the school board president - was a white lesbian who likes to adopt black boys so that she becomes a double minority, fretting about all the racism her "black sons" face. She also ran for city council - and finished dead last.

Population growth alone for adults is 100k or so. Anything under 100k is really a net negative number. 150k is seen as a good number indicating an expanding economy.

By comparison in 2017, during Trump 1.0 first year, average MONTHLY number was 182k.

Also, these are ADP numbers, since the government shutdown means the official ones, normally delivered on the first Friday of each month with data for the previous month, aren't being released (neither for September nor for October yet).

In any case, rather than number of jobs gained or lost, these metrics should be considered relative to population size.

I had a job opportunity once. Went through several round s of interviews and my final interview was with a black flllaaaaming gay guy. Like he was a n 11 on a 1-10 gay scale. I was so bummed. Because I was like no way I’m working with guy it’ll be a nightmare. So I turned down the job offer.

If you go back in time and look at the ADP numbers versus the BLS revised numbers, ADP is more accurate hands down.

Speaker Johnson should have pushed the necessary budget bills through the House in the last month, along with a handful of others that help free the country. When the Senate temporarily spikes the filibuster/60 vote requirement, they vote on the full budget - with a provision preventing a CR in each bill - and really make it worthwhile.

Ranked-choice voting means that further calculations need to be made, as candidates are eliminated, until someone reaches a majority of the vote. It does not require further rounds of voting, since voters already ranked the candidates.

I've been watching reactions on X all day and a number of Senators are getting onboard ending the filibuster in some fashion. They know better than we do that Democrats are going to do it.

What they love more than anything is being in power and if Democrats get back in power and end the filibuster a lot of them are going to lose their jobs.

Won't be easy with Collins, Murk, Rand and a few others but it's absolutely necessary.

Well if you wonder about what was going on, and we've discussed it here elsewhere. Carlson, Fuentes, and Candace ran an op to start a big controversy on the eve of an election in order to drive down turnout (Candace said so explicitly) and help Mamdami and the rest of the dems win.

Because, just like Bill Kristol and the Bullwark, they are not even 10% on our side anymore.
