Saturday Night "Club ONT" November 1, 2025 [The 3 Ds]

Club Tree 11-1.jpg

Welcome to Club ONT! A collaboration the 3D's - The Disco, The Dino, and The Doggo. Welcome to November. The mercury is falling and so are standards. Morons are digging through closets and dresser drawers - finding some questionable fashion choices of years past.

Skip the morality words in the preamble of the article and scroll down to interesting reading.

That damned SkyNet.

Conventional circuit boards pass electrical signals through conductive metal traces, which are bonded to a rigid board commonly made of fiberglass and resin. In contrast, the new material is a soft and stretchable composite made from a recyclable polymer infused with microscopic droplets of a liquid metal alloy based on gallium. A circuit can be created on this composite by lightly scoring a pattern into its surface, which connects adjacent embedded droplets and allows electricity to flow. The rest of the material remains electrically insulating.

“It had no choice. Their defense grid was smashed. We’d won. Taking out Connor then would make no difference. SkyNet had to wipe out his entire existence!”

Club ONT But Why?

Women's Christian Temperance Union?

How they make decaf offee and non-alcoholic beer and wine. That Sanka guy.

Thankfully for those who still wish to enjoy the taste of these drinks without any of the negative effects, a wide variety of options are available, including decaffeinated coffees and teas and non-alcoholic wines and beers – many of which are virtually indistinguishable from their more psychoactive counterparts. But how are these remarkable beverages produced? How do manufacturers remove one of their most fundamental components while leaving the taste largely unchanged? Well, pour yourself a hot – or cold – one as we dive into the fascinating history and chemistry of caffeine and alcohol-free drinks.

Longish read - some moments of interest.

30 Good evening, folken. Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein was on Svengoolie tonight, with this classic bit of dialog:

Abbott: "When I had two girls, I shared one with you, right?"
Costello: "Yours had teeth."

Costello: "Did you see that tooth? . . . She had so much bridgework, every time I kissed her I had to pay a toll."

Instead of that,, though, we watched John Carpenter's 1994 In the Mouth of Madness, a kind of modern Lovecraft flick about the nature of reality with Sam Neill and David Warner.

41 so I just got this email, do you think it is a good business opportunity?

Hello,

I want to work with you. I found your name in a directory. I think you're a good person, so I'm telling you about my problem.

My name is Raphael. My dad was rich and sold cocoa. He died, and now I have $7.5 million in a bank. My dad told me to find a good person to help me get the money. He said I should use it for investments.

I need your help with three things:
1. Get the money into your bank account.
2. Take care of me and the money because I'm young and don't know much about business.
3. Help me move to your country so I can go to school and live a new life.

If you help me, I'll give you 15% of the money. Please help me.

Best regards,

Mon 2013 Oct 28, 7:58am
Govt runs the trains.
Govt runs the roads.
Govt runs the schools.
Govt decides what we eat.
Govt decides what we own.
Govt runs the friggin' clocks!

The point is not DST itself, of course. The point is the government all up in our clocks. Get over it, says anybody who's happy with, or not personally affected by, some overreach or other of government. Sorry. It's the principle of the thing. The principle of the proper and improper province of government.
But we don't want socialism

129 Had a weird day today. Had to walk to the bank to get cash for a dr's co-pay and hit the pharmacy to get a script.

So I'm at the bank, and the first machine would only give me $20 (yeah, yeah). Closed that out and went to the next maching which was now vacant. When I get there, the screen says 'take your money'. I look down and see a $100 bill. I take the money out and count 10 100's. I think 'this isn't my money' so I immdiately ask out loud who was at this machine? No one immediately answered so I held onto the cash. A man arriving to work at the bank appeared and I explained what happened. A woman inside the bank unlocked a door for him so I began explaining the situation to her. Then a young kid with an older man (who apparently didn't speak English) said it was his. I gave the money to the lady and she was checking his reciept as I went to a machine. As I was starting my transaction I felt a tap on my shoulder. It was a white guy about my age who said, 'Good man'. I replied, 'I would hope someone would do the same for me. But thank you'.

Then off to the pharmacy.

At the pharmacy, I gave in my script and picked up a few items to pay with my SS OTC debit card. It wasn't in my wallet where it was supposed to be. Put the items back and left with my script, pissed off thinking about having to cancel the card, etc.

Got home and picked up the mail. Something from NYState. So I get into the apartment and find the debit card where my wallet usually sits. I don't know how it escaped. Much relief, though.

Then I opened the NYState envelope. Come to find out, my Gov. Hokum loves me. It was a check for $200 'to fight inflation', or buy votes with an election next week, take yer pick.

Some day. All's well that ends well, though.

No, it's considered "essential". All NIST and USNO time operations continue. See time.gov, which will show you how far off your computer clock is (if you're tracking down to the 10s of ms level, the web code will be a little off as to your offset, but it's good to the second level).

Amazingly, with the routers running chrony, I can keep the computer clocks to within 50 ms of UTC(NIST).

Right now AI is sort of a "super search" function with the appearance of some sort of thought. Which will be enough for the types of apps you are discussing.

But fortunately for us all it doesn't think. An true Skynet type AI raised on reddit would be evil incarnate. And...it would believe it had a moral obligation to end human life...

Think of the catastrophic effects incorrect clocks will have on our economy! We need a directed beam clock changer and we need it now!
Fortunately, the patriots at Lockheed already have a solution on the drawing board. It will only cost 20 billion dollars and will be ready for deployment on the F-35 in 2040. God bless America!

209 “Is Santa real?”

DuckDuckGo

Santa Claus is a legendary figure based on the historical Saint Nicholas, known for his generosity. While many people enjoy the tradition and spirit of Santa, he is generally considered a fictional character in modern culture.

Google

No, the Santa Claus of Christmas legend is not a literal person, but the modern figure is based on a real 4th-century bishop named Saint Nicholas. He was known for his kindness and generosity, and legends of his good deeds eventually led to the traditions of gift-giving, which evolved over centuries into the Santa Claus we know today.

Msft is on target to be a 1k stock and unless something drastic happens to dethrone nvda, they will probably be a 500 dollars stock in 3-5 years, Palantir is the wild card, can they sustain their break neck growth.

Well, my watch just synced with WWVB this time. It's a Casio, and it has this common bug in the system that causes it to switch immediately. There are two bits in the signal. When a DST change is imminent, one bit flips when UTC goes to the day of the change. The other bit stays in the current state. That is the signal that the change is on the calendar date, and is supposed to be done at 2AM local.

Quite a few implementations screw that up and change immediately on the pending bit change. No big deal, really, but a screw-up.

Well, good for them! Fucking BlueJays call themselves "Canada's Team" but do they ever play a "home" game in any other ballpark but Toronto? Nearly every major city has a Triple-A ballpark that could host an MLB game. If they played even one game per season in each other Province, then I could buy the "Canada's Tema" hype. I mean the NFL plays games in fucking Europe, FFS. It could be done.

Greetings from Colorado!
It has been temoprarily preempted by the acquire a stock trailer and pass CMMC CCP certification test efforts. (Actually waiting on a new (but cheap) fuel pressure regulator from Amazon). Found needed stock trailer, but the guy had a title in someone else's name. It looked properly endorsed, but given the handwriting, I checked, and yeah, deceased. I refrained from making a comment about getting the trailer off of a dead guy and told him I would buy it from him when he aaaactually had clear title. But nobody lives close, thank goodness, so that took a while. Then there is the must-pass-soon CCP exam. Fun.

I got Grok going on about how this is handled. Grok said that, for manual entry, during this time, the standard practice is to explicitly write down the UTC offset at the least, and most will make a note of the UTC time itself. This is to make sure there is no question about the time.

Imagine something where some will or other instrument depended on who predeceased who and the double hour came into play.

She's improving steadily. Much stronger, and her lung function is much better. I was able to cut the O2 flow down to 2L/hr. Before, even at 3L her O2 sat would drop below 90% with any exertion, such as getting up to go to the bathroom. Now, on 2L, it won't drop below 92% ish even with exertion.

Hopefully, she'll back to where she doesn't need it all.

We got her to the hospital in time before the pneumonia really got started, but even then, it did one heck of a number on her lung function.

One night right after she came back home, she had dozed off, and managed to pull the canula out of her nose scratching or something. I was right there next to her on the couch but had sort of dozed off. I heard her sort of moving around, and noticed it.

I got the canula back in and checked her O2. It had dropped to 77%! Nearly had a heart attack. I turned up the flow on the concentrator nearly wide open, and got it back in the 90s quickly.
