With Massive Assist from Trump, Argeninian President and "Afuerza!" Enthusiast Javier Milei Defies Expectations and Stomps the Parliamentary Mid-Term Elections

This video explains the trouble Milei was in, and how Trump got him out of it.

Basically, no one believed that Millei's reforms would stick. People did not want to invest in Argentina's economy because they were pretty sure another leftist would just defeat him at the next elections and return the country to basket-case socialist rule.

The only way to get people to invest would be to convince them that Millei was popular and that he'd be around to make sure the reforms stuck. But people didn't believe this, and the Argentinian peso continued to decline in value.

This is when Trump intervened. He declared the US dollar would trade at a fixed rate against the Argentinian peso, thus effectively setting a floor for the peso's value. He also spent billions of America dollars buying up the Argentinian peso, buttressing its value.

But that's not all he did. Trump declared that America's support for the Argentinan peso was conditioned absolutely on the Argentines voting in favor of Milei's party at the mid-terms. If the public turned on Milei, Trump would end all support for the country.

He said that if the Argentines chose basket-case socialism again, America would bail out of bailing out Argentina, as Argentina would just be a "waste of our time."

Did it work?

You betcha.

All of the polls showed Milei's party losing the mid-terms.

Instead, he stompenated them.

@ContextOfficiel

🔴 𝗔𝗟𝗘𝗥𝗧 𝗜𝗡𝗙𝗢 • 🇦🇷 • In the Midterm Elections, President Javier Milei's party "La libertad avanza" defied ALL the predictions:

• Large victory at 41%
• 101 deputies (+64)
• 20 senators (+14)
• He also won in Buenos Aires, a city historically very left-wing

Now, he did not win parliament outright, but it's very hard to win a parliament outright unless, say, you're the UK Labour party, and the UK "Conservative" party decides to allow absolute open borders despite their own voters telling them to STOP THE BOATS at the top of their lungs.

But this gives Milei the whip-hand in getting his laws passed, and he also secured a one-third bloc in the Senate which means that the Senate cannot override his vetoes with a two-thirds vote.

It was always about keeping quiet, and then just opening the borders.

And Labour was historically more vocal about criticizing the CP for being so open borders, like Bernie Sanders.

The UK is a weird place politically where genuinely Labour has been more for closed borders rhetorically than the party everyone kind of assumed was about closed borders: the CP.

Posted by: gKWVE at October 27, 2025 01:19 PM (gKWVE)

Peronism was Fascism 100%, based on the Italian model - and Mussolini was Catholic. Milei . . . Reagan once said that it is amazing what you can get done as long as you don't insist on getting credit for success. Milei seems to be willing to embrace that.
He is an economist and a professor. He is relying on his cabinet who are amazing, and he has them out working in the open as well.

To put your mind at rest, it is not socialism. It is an attempt to do a number of things to reduce the reach and power of the state over business, individuals and the economy in a country where for two centuries the state has been focused on collecting up the power over everything and giving it out to its backers. The only question is how far can it go and how long will it last.

144 And how do you justify such a massive assist to Argentina?

Simple, and typical Trump negotiating tactics. We are coming up on the "re-negotiation" of the USMCA (NAFTA) Agreement with Canada and Mexico (our second biggest and biggest trading partners respectively). Argentina is on the cusp of becoming a newly minted economic power player. Argentina just happens to have abundant resources, a significant number of them overlapping with exports from both Canada and Mexico. Having another source for these exports puts the US in a stronger negotiating position...and it will lead to individual trade agreements with Canada and Mexico.

Solid investment and act by Trump Administration.

Now, Argentina needs to get off it's ass and wind up that new Coffee industry to stick it to Columbia.

In my opinion, the one weak area for Milei was the economy. The World Bank could have called in loans, the Europeans could have dumped what bonds they had, and done more "rule changes" to exclude ARG exports further. What Trump did was to backstop the Argie economy. Kristina Fernandez de Kirchner couldn't have done that, she had the Navy cadet training ship seized in an African port for default on loans, even if she weren't in jail for corruption charges.

If anything the fatboy is a slightly stripped down heritage. From the front they look identical except for the slightly smaller more stylized front fender. What matters is the message they tried to convey, and it worked. I was working on them when they came out, and everyone who bought one said the same thing. Air force looking logo, B-29 color with small color accents the color of an A-bomb explosion. That isn't coincidence. It was planned.

They have lost the phony moral high ground they cultivated under Bush, starting with the wars, then Katrina, then Obama, then Trayvon, then gays, and finally Floyd.

It seemed the whole country and world was under their spell. They even had half the Republican Party secretly on their side. To the point where most of even THIS place would fight you if you called out specific Republican Slime.

Trump forcefully broke the spell. That genie is not going back in the bottle which is why the Left are more out and proud than ever. The moral high ground play is all but gone until Republicans conveniently come back with some of their scripted "Rape is God's plan" bullshit.

182 Bolivar himself was a garden variety rabble rouser who did a good job inciting and sometimes leading a string of regular old 19th century revolutions against atrociously shitty colonialist dictatorships, and in his wake ushering in at best chaos and at worst even shittier dictatorships.

The worst thing about Bolivar is all the generations of utter human filth who claimed him as their personal spirit animal and ruined a whole continent for a century.
-------

Ok, that was the kind of summary I was hoping someone would offer. "Objective" reading of his life shows Bolivar as some sort of freedom figure, but all of the wrong people espousing all of the wrong "-isms" seem to love the guy, and the damage they've inflicted is incalculable.

Depends on where you are at. There really isn't a consensus outside of him being deeply prescient of politics (read his Letter from Jamaica and his Letter to General Jose Flores), extremely effective as a commander, deeply imaginative as a tactician, and sort of out of his depth in dealing with his political superiors and later political contemporaries in first Gran Colombia, then Colombia proper as the whole thing broke up. He relied deeply on his lover, Manuela Saenz to navigate the shifting sands of self interest of the various factions on the political side, but in the end he was too beat up and sick to keep fighting.

Now, General Jose de San Martin was truly a wonder.

249 My problem with GWTW is probably its last 40 minutes or so, when all the bad stuff starts happening -- Scarlett falls and has a miscarriage, Bonnie dies, Melanie collapses and dies. It's like they said, "OK, let's kill everybody off and wrap this thing up."

The scene with Mammie's speech to Melanie is excellent, however, so there's that. Hattie McDaniel makes that movie for me.

Posted by: BurtTC at October 27, 2025 02:07 PM

That shouldn't be hard, there are like 500 of them in all of Greenland.

329 28 I wonder if it was truly caused by the carrot-and-stick methods of the administration or simply because Milei's policies are actually working. Given South American sensitivity towards Yankee meddling in their affairs, I could see our president's efforts just as easily backfiring.

Perhaps it is both. And Latin American has a love-hate relationship with this country, and understandably so. May Trump tread carefully.

Cutting any part of government wastage and useless programs is going to help just because there are fewer dead weight divisions eating up the food and giving nothing back.

330 Is Gone with the Wind the most overrated movie ever ??

In a world where Citizen Kane exists, that's a big ask.
Posted by: I used to have a different nic

Yeah, I never got the appeal of that flic. Welles was an overhyped windbag.

I think GOTW is worth its hype. Shows the postwar dream of the Dixie Myth and the glorious war with enough realism tossed in by Rhett and events like the casualties at the Atlanta rail yard. Scarlett to is the belle of the dreams with enough flaws that you can like her some but not feel sympathy when Rhett leaves.

Posted by: Oldcat at October 27, 2025 03:13 PM (8avO+)

331 My problem with GWTW is probably its last 40 minutes or so, when all the bad stuff starts happening -- Scarlett falls and has a miscarriage, Bonnie dies, Melanie collapses and dies. It's like they said, "OK, let's kill everybody off and wrap this thing up."

The scene with Mammie's speech to Melanie is excellent, however, so there's that. Hattie McDaniel makes that movie for me.

Those things happened in that time. Both Jeff Davis and Lincoln lost sons during the war. So did WT Sherman. General Longstreet had three children die of fever in Richmond while he was down the Peninsula defending the town.

332 Well, there is the official story, and then there's the classified one. I'm calling bullshit on the fat motorcycle thing, because they were already making the heritage for 4 years by the time the fatboy was made. Its the same bike. Same front end, same frame.

The 2 A Bombs were Little Boy and Fat Man. The nickname refers to both of them and is pretty likely to come from the 2 bombs.

Yeah, let's see how wide the Republican Party here spreads open for illegals once Trump is safely out of the way.

334 I'll be very fair:

I think Biden did more.

People who embrace unreality will find crises where ever they go and no matter what they do. Reality has a way of getting even.

You might be thinking of Phillip Sheridan, a Cavalry General prominent in the late war.
