A New Ballroom Was Absolutely Needed at the White House, Admits... The Washington Post

When the White House attempts to hold events, like state dinners, they are forced to erect outdoor tents -- which can be shot through by snipers, of course -- and visiting dignitaries need to use the undignified means of waste elimination known as Port-a-Potties.

In other words: Yes, the White House needs a larger space for entertaining guests.

This is obvious. But it shocking that the Washington Post is even capable of acknowledging the obvious, writes David Strom.

Months ago, Jeff Bezos made clear that he wanted to clean out the most insane Opinion Page columnists and restore some sanity to the Washington Post's Opinion/Editorial Page.

And there was quite the exodus as the Augean Stables were cleaned out. David Shipley, the editorial page editor, resigned. Ruth Marcus, out. Karen Attiah, out. Philip Bump, out. Jonathan Capehart, out. We all laughed and toasted Jen Rubin's departure, of course.
But even with the massive turnover in personnel, how many of us expected the Post to do more than make a nod to sanity as it continued on much the same course?
Yet, here we are. Hell has, indeed, frozen over.

Check the link for actual quotes from the Post. Not only does the Post admit the need for a larger space for entertaining guests, but it also admits that the amount of red tape that usually blocks necessary renovations in all government projects is insane -- simple projects take 21 years to complete, if they're ever completed -- and that Trump's roughshod bulldozing over Established Normzzz is actually necessary here.

This is a one-two punch of an editorial, not because it will move the needle in any significant way or because the Post is suddenly going to become a Trump outlet. The ballroom issue is, in itself, minor. It is a manufactured controversy.
What the editorial does is calmly point out that 1) Trump is right in what he is doing, and 2) that he is having to "subvert norms" because the norms are insane and destructive.
Something needed to be done. The existing "norms" (not rules, because the White House is mostly exempt) and red tape make doing anything nearly impossible, so Trump cut the Gordian Knot. He saw a need and filled it.

At the Free Beacon, Andrew Stiles rounded up some of the most insane leftwing responses in this "manufactured controversy."

You know who else built buildings in his capital city, don't you?

Here's a particularly insane example: Tara Setmayer, a former Lincoln Project senior adviser, wrote that watching Trump renovate the White House made her feel "almost the same as when I saw the Pentagon damage on 9/11." Though most probably wouldn't compare it to 9/11 in a public forum, Setmayer was expressing a sentiment widely shared by her fellow Trump-obsessed liberal activists. In their humble (and definitely not crazy) opinion, this was one of the worst attacks on the American homeland in our country's history.

Note: I wrongly said this asshole was part of the Bulwark grifter network. In fact, she's a former Lincoln Project grifter. I forgot which segment of the grifter human centipede she belongs to.

The Post also published a scathing column by its art and architecture critic, who cited a Columbia professor who argued Trump's architectural model of the ballroom was haunted by a "darker history in fascist and totalitarian politics."

Stephen Colbert, the former comedian, said watching the East Wing being demolished was like having electrodes attached to his nipples. "That is so deeply upsetting," he said, fighting back tears. Colbert's former colleague Jon Stewart UNLOADED on Trump for ignoring the preservationists. The left-wing website Talking Points Memo suggested Trump's preference for "classical architecture" was a "dog whistle for white nationalists." The reaction from journalists, observed journalist Ryan Cooper at the American Prospect, has been "surprisingly visceral" because "this is what dictatorship feels like."

I worked in houses like that. At some point in the 80's there was this thing for tacky looking shiny silver and gold wallpaper and everything revolved around it. It wasn't in middle class homes though, always the affluent. I hated that style with the heat of 1000 suns. I would do a beautiful kitchen and it would just get dwarfed by the insanity around it. Trumps tastes are what I call opulent tacky. I do think, from what I saw anyway on artist renditions, that he's going to dial that back a bit on the ballroom, and go more toward architecture speaking for itself.

The first thing we did was redo the kitchen and paint everything. Because wow. I actually LOVED that house. I still do, if I could have picked it up and brought it here, I would have been so happy. I relied on the CTA when I grew up in Chicago in the 50's and 60's. It was filthy, but reliable, and back then there was a lot smaller chance of getting robbed or murdered riding it.

Moved across the country a decade ago and bought a house on a mountain ridge. Built in the mid '90's, as the one we left in FL (which was perfect and I even designed the pool that I miss).

This one, oh, boy. When we bought it we ripped up all the carpet and had wood floors installed. Deck replaced. Fireplaces gutted and replaced. Everything replaced by people we hired or my husband (he replaced every hinge and doorknob). It is ours vs the horror of 40 Shades of Mustard on our arrival. We lived through what seemed to be months of war to get this years later and it is perfect. The kitchen replaced to the studs and is a French type kitchen and everyone who sees it is impressed. I may be a Moron, but a Moron with good taste.

I am going to give an alternative view- the purpose of these programs, prior to them being used to mess up black families, was to help single mothers who were widowed or abandoned, with the idea they could continue to stay home, or work a domestic job that still allowed them to continue to raise children. I think our children being raised in day care centers is a lot of the problem and having someone home tends to mitigate mischief a hair. Not totally, but it’s important. What it shouldn’t be is a method to continue to have babies out of wedlock (though I do believe every birth is a blessing, we have to also be responsible for the choices we make), or for able bodied men to avoid going and getting a dang job to support their families. If you have 12 kids with 12 different women, sounds like you need to be working 12 jobs.

See it on a theater. Plays much differently. My first time seeing it was in 1961 with my parents, in the same huge theater they first saw it in 1940 when it went into wide release. Everytime I saw it after that was in a large theater, where and whenever it played. Took my girlfriend, future wife, to see it in NYC in one of the last movie palaces. A great film that can be watched over and over again. The more I watch it, the more I had realized that it was Mammy who was the glue that held the family together. Wonderful actress.

The one bedroom was UPS brown, the master bedroom was 2 walls periwinkle and 2 walls greenish yellow. Master bath was dark forest green, and the 30X30 family room with full cathedral ceiling looked like a vintage McDonalds. 2 bright red walls, 2 yellow walls, white ceiling. The living room was some kind of light green, probably the least offensive. It was horrible.

I know a few people. I am, on paper, a true single mother, too. I get nothing, zero, nada colada. I am extremely blessed to be in the situation I am in now that allows me to stay home (for the most part) with a child who really needs it, because I had to walk away from a very, very lucrative job as a result of my divorce. I haven’t had to go on welfare either, but there have been some extremely lean times for the both of us. I will tell you more one day. In the meantime, but for the grace of God go I.

I do wonder about people sometimes. According to our neighbor, and we lucked out with good neighbors here, this werido had cheap beige shag carpet put on the stairs and various rooms to go with the shades of mustard...and they differed from room to room. She had HS kids paint the rooms and it showed.

Except one upstairs bedroom was pea green. A lotta paint, blood and sweat (no tears) went into the remodel. New roof, with Mexican's singing opera. New everything at some point including the furnace/AC and windows. I am here forevermore. I ain't going through this ever again!
