North Carolina Enacts New Congressional Districting Map Which Will Likely Add One More Republican to the House of Representatives

CNN's collective vagina is sandy.

Nay -- it's gritty.

The North Carolina Senate approved a new congressional map aimed at helping Republicans eke out an additional GOP seat to help shore up the party's majority in the US House after next year's midterm elections.

The vote came one day after Republican lawmakers who control North Carolina's legislature formally opened debate on the map. It targets a House district currently represented by Democratic Rep. Don Davis -- one of three Black members of Congress from the state. The new district lines aim to give Republicans the advantage for 11 out of 14 US House seats from North Carolina.

The GOP currently controls 10 seats under the map used in last year's elections.

Now for the schmoll news I know many of you are going to gripe at, forcing me to hide schmolling news in deceptively-headlined posts like a dirty secret Brian Stelter hides in his orthopedic sock drawer.

We can win the Virginia governor's race.

A new poll shows Virginia Republican gubernatorial candidate Winsome Earle-Sears trailing Democratic hopeful Abigail Spanberger by 5 points.

Polls are inaccurate, and favor Democrats by 3 points or more (often more), so this race is a jump-ball.

The 2025 Virginia governor's race is emerging as a key indicator of national political trends ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

...

In the co/efficient poll released on Friday, Earle-Sears is down 5 points, with 44 percent of the vote compared to Spanberger's 49 percent. Six percent remain undecided, the poll shows.

The survey polled 937 likely voters from October 15 to October 17 and has a 3.19 percent margin of error.

And of course last week's Trafalgar poll but the race within the margin of error:

In another poll taken last week, Earle-Sears was also behind Spanberger but within the margin of error. The poll by The Trafalgar Group showed Spanberger had 47.5 percent of the vote compared to Earle-Sears' 45.3 percent.

The Democrats are worried enough about Abigail Spanberger that they're sending their highest-ranking homosexuals. First Obama, and now Pete!

Now I don't want to say the AG's race -- between actual prosecutor Jason Miyares and lunatic partisan child-murder-fantasist Jay Jones -- is in the bag, so I'll post this without comment:

miyarespollhistory.jpg

In New Jersey, where Republicans have gained a lot of voters through registration drives, Jack Ciattarelli is also supposedly five points behind lifelong cheater/congressional grifter Mikie Sherril.

But this same schmollster missed Ciattarelli's support by 5.2 points in 2021.

Eric Daugherty
@EricLDaugh

🚨 JUST IN: NEW JERSEY governor poll

🔵 Mikie Sherrill: 50% (+5)
🔴 Jack Ciattarelli: 45%

Same pollster in 2021:
🔵 Murphy+8
🟡 Result: Murphy+2.8
🟥 Error: Missed Ciattarelli by 5.2

GOP should be ready to STORM the polls on Saturday...

Rutgers Eagleton | 10/3-17 | N=795LV

Sometimes the question "who do you expect to win" can be a better measure of the final vote than schmolling questions about who the respondent intends to vote for. On that measure, the race is a toss-up. 43% expect the corrupt cheating grifter Democrat to win, 42% expect Ciattarelli.

Ciatterelli might be getting the endorsement of the Vaad, an organization which represents orthodox Jews in New Jersey (and also controls the Kessel Trade Routes). I've heard their numbers estimated around 100,000 voters.

Ciattarelli only lost by 92,000 in 2021. The Vaad didn't endorse him in 2021.

And he's got another big endorsement. Trump says: Back Jack!

trumpsaysbackjack.jpg

In the national race for the House of Representatives, Democrats hold a bare +1.8% advantage in RCP's schmolling average. This means, of course, that they have no advantage, as schmollsters always over-estimate Democrat support by around 3%.

genericcongressionalvotercp2026.jpg

The last time the Democrats shut down the government, during Trump's first term, Trump lost support with the public.

Now he's gaining support -- very slightly.

Not that you are wrong, but I reviewed some lefty threads taking up why heavily gerrymandered New England is that way. They all agreed it wasn't gerrymandering. So why is a 60-40% voting region 100-0 for them? Well their answers were mostly:

Because we are smart!
Its just random
Everyone hates Trump

Which should be read as...they don't care if it is or is not gerrymandering as long as they win.

Now, in light of this the only reasonable response is to use your enemy's strategy against them. Gerrymander red areas hard for a decade or so and then see if the left is willing to stop.

NJ is schizophrenic. Down south they're pretty Republican. Up here in North NJ it's very very blue, but it's the corrupt Democrat machine-type, "sinecures for the idiot sons and daughters of the middle-class"-type blue.

So, not so much ideologically blue.

There are a lot of wealthy Dems up here who hate the DEI shite almost as much as we do (well -- at least they don't love it), and who live in daily fear of the Newark hordes invading their bucolic suburban neighborhoods, so they're really not on board with the whole Saint Floyd of Fentanyl, defund the police crap.

Repealing Section 2 would require 60 votes to get past cloture while burning a lot of political capital. Better to just let SCOTUS do it, which they're about to.

The mid-decade census is going to accomplish that count. Plus, after more than a year of federal agents very publicly throwing people out of the country and census counters, like all federal employees, being deputized to enforce immigration law (change at the start of Trump 2.0) is going to actively encourage illegals back into the shadows and outright out of the country.

1. NJ wasn't that deep a shade of blue. It had GOP governors not long ago.

The cities are festoons of gimmedats and layabouts who slavishly vote Dum (or allow their votes to be harvested by Dums), but there are a lot of suburban and rural areas that trend red-ish. My NJ house is in one.

2. Better voting integrity. NJ is behind the curve in this regard compared to OH, FL, and even PA, but it's moving in the right direction.

I would favor a system where a computer model - same for all 50 states - used an algorithm designed only to put equivalent amounts of voters in as concisely drawn borders as possible - only 4 straight lines allowed for any district.

Of course this would wipe out every district with a black representative in the country, which is why no one will dare to do it.

169 Re: NC Redistricting

Where is the response from blue states? California, Michigan, and NY talk about new maps, but they're barely moving. Meanwhile, Rs just steamroll redistricting in lockstep.

Blue states have laws against gerrymandering so they have to vote on it. They did the right and moral thing and it's coming back to bite us in the ass. Meanwhile, Red states are free to gerrymander unfettered.

Politics is a dirty game and the GOP is better at it. You can’t really fight fire with fire when your state constitution is designed around playing fair(er).

Shocker, folks who know they can't win on the strength of their ideas rig the system. Republicans can’t win without cheating.

Do people in the solid blue areas still have to pay state taxes since they are not represented? I'd love a case about disenfranchisement of the vote due to gerrymandering, rather than saying straight up lack of representation. about it being made mathematically impossible for a left leaning voter to have their voice heard. That’s specific disenfranchisement of people, imo. (any California or NY Morons have feelings about this going the other way?)

Trump probably speaks to a lot of them. Discounting faggy cheating 2020, they have hovered right around 2.1 million votes for the Democrat going all the way back to 2008. But whereas McCain and Romney got 1.6 million, Trump increased that by about 25% in 2024.

What's fascinating more than the R increase is the absolute flatline for the D over 15 to 20 years. Trump has definitely made the Democrats less palatable to those who will listen.

So far the base doesn't seem to be getting hit by the shutdown but who knows what will happen if it goes on long enough.

Although I don't want my kid to suffer, he has a baby and a new mortgage, this shutdown is just noise. It's a great light show at a mediocre concert.
The demoncrats have seriously misjudged this thing.

290 Would maximizing the Republican results from creative drawing of congressional district lines be a linear programming problem? It would be a shame to lose some seats because we didn't want to do the math./i]

I suspect you'd write a program to look at say the last 10 house elections and have it run various iteration scenarios to maximize GOP office holders where the state wide trend is +0, +5, -5, etc...

But yes, math ultimately...and then how much risk you are willing to take - and this is CA's problem. They are already fairly safely gerrymandered, but if they do more and their is a +5 GOP wave over what they are expecting it could mean a couple dozen seats flipping if they are all estimated to give the Donks less then a +5 advantage.

I have some javascript code that allows me to speed up all vids (including ads) on EweToob by as much as I want. I can't be too fast, or EweToob complains...a good 3x or 4x normally works...

295 258 256 I would like to see districts that are composed of complete, already existing political entities -- entire counties, cities, townships, whatever. No more of this "following the interstate" crap in drawing district lines.

======

The problem is that districts have to be roughly equal by population.

Due to overcounting and illegals being counted, Kali already has too many seats in the House...

Posted by: jim (in Kalifornia) at October 22, 2025 02:21 PM (ynpvh)

298 I haven't had a lot of experience, but I think you can load all the constraints on a linear programming model that you can think of and the math will spit out an optimal map, under those constraints.

Posted by: Oglebay at October 22, 2025 02:21 PM (GPa4z)

299 221 CA gerrymandering more is risky for them. They could end up just allowing the GOP to pick up a bunch of seats in a small red wave.
Posted by: 18-1 at October 22, 2025 01:57 PM (sKqQm)

#1 pitfall of extreme gerrymandering. The Dems did it throughout the south up until the 90's, and in 1994 when the GOP finally retook Congress, that was one of the reasons.

301 That's interesting, thanks. I'll have to check out a map for that.

It's an artifact of the extraterritorial jurisdiction laws that allow a city to annex [ n ] miles in any direction (depending on population) but further along highways. I know of a few small towns with a couple thousand residents where you cross the city limits sign a good ten miles before seeing anything like a town.

302 Then why are they hanging around Fredericksburg VA? It's a democratic stronghold.

It's just a fuc*ing photo op with Mayor Pete for the low info followers.

It's on the ropes.

Yes and no. Mike Johnson's been pretty vocal that the Dems' real demand is that USAID be reinstated in full.

Not that I would think that's gonna poll any better.

Who the hell still has land lines that the pollsters can call? This 78 year old boomer doesn't, and hasn't for years. A few of my friends have VOIP, but have never been called by a polling organization. Who ARE these people?

306 It is interesting that NJ has been trending rightward in recent years. It had long been deep blue but it seems its voters are waking up.

Any answers as to why?
