Japan Makes It Official and Confirms Trumpian Female Prime Minister

She had been elected head of the party in power a couple of weeks ago, but it was only yesterday that the Diet voted to make it official.

Japan has elected its first female prime minister -- and she's a staunch conservative. Sanae Takaichi, 64, a former TV broadcaster and longtime lawmaker known for her admiration of Margaret Thatcher, won a historic vote Tuesday to lead both the nation and the ruling Liberal Democratic Party, shattering a political ceiling that stood for more than seven decades. Takaichi captured 237 votes in Japan's 465-member lower house after her party secured a coalition agreement just one day earlier, cementing her position as leader of the country that has been governed by the LDP for nearly all of its postwar history.

Takaichi's victory marks a decisive turn for Japan's right, as her government prepares to push for higher defense spending, potential tax reductions, and a return to nuclear energy amid growing regional threats and economic stagnation. She has been unapologetic in her traditional views, supporting male-only imperial succession, opposing same-sex marriage, and rejecting proposals for married couples to use separate surnames -- positions that have made her a hero among Japan's nationalist base. "I have always believed in the strength of Japan's traditions and the need to defend them," she said during her campaign.

Her leadership is also expected to strengthen Tokyo's alliance with Washington. Earlier this month, President Donald Trump congratulated Takaichi for her victory in the LDP leadership race, calling it "tremendous news" and describing her as "a highly respected person of great wisdom and strength." Takaichi responded that she was "very pleased" by Trump's message and "hoping to work together to make our alliance even stronger and more prosperous." She has publicly pledged to honor an investment agreement made with the Trump administration, signaling stability in U.S.--Japan relations.

There's some good news in Bolivia too.

Bolivia's first conservative president-elect in 20 years, Rodrigo Paz, injected a sharp note of realism into his plans to tackle an economic crisis Monday, a day after his surprise electoral victory signaled the end of decades of leftist rule in the South American nation.

After years of government antipathy toward the U.S. under the Movement Toward Socialism party, Paz pledged to rebuild relations with Washington -- and attract foreign investment to a country long locked out of international markets.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said in a statement that Paz's victory Sunday "marks a transformative opportunity for both nations" to work on investment, immigration, security and other matters.

...

In another sign of the dramatic regional shift, Paz held a video call with Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who won the Nobel Peace Prize this month. After years of Bolivia aligning itself with Venezuela's increasingly repressive President Nicolás Maduro, Paz told Machado that his country was "here to join in the fight for Venezuela and for Latin American democracies.""

On the other hand, the coked-up communist president of Colombia is very, very mad that Trump is blowing up the narcoterrorists' drug boats and ">

He also spoke of the need for "cutting the head" off the "kings:" "Here, we cut off the heads of kings. A king cannot tell us what to do. "

President Trump has been highly critical of Petro, calling him "an illegal drug leader" in a post on Truth Social on Sunday. Trump went on to say in the post that the production of illegal drugs "has become the biggest business in Colombia, by far, and Petro does nothing to stop it." He called Petro "a low rated and very unpopular leader" and said that if Petro does not stop the drug routes to the U.S., "the United States will close them up for him, and it won't be done nicely."

On September 16, the U.S. military carried out a drone strike that destroyed a submarine reportedly carrying drugs in international waters off the coast of Colombia.

Last week, Petro stated on X that "U.S. government officials have committed murder and violated our sovereignty in territorial waters." He went on to say that the submarine was a fishing vessel in distress and demanded an explanation from the United States about the strike.

In response, Trump announced that he would end all U.S. funding to Colombia, cutting off hundreds of millions in economic, military, and humanitarian aid. Speaking to reporters, Trump went after Petro, calling him "a lunatic who's got a lot of problems. Mental problems."

It's insane that this wasn't done decades ago. Colombia hasn't been a functioning country in decades, if it ever was. There were half-jokes about Colombia being nothing more than drug fields and drug cartels in the 1980s.

Probably 99% of any aid to Colombia gets stolen by the cartels, by the government, and by leftwing NGOs and other remoras. Probably 30% of the money never even leaves the USA.

I do know some Colombian smokeshows, though, so there's that.

Be still, my heart.

One of my favorite quotes is from Mrs. Thatcher:

Consensus is the Absence of Leadership."

She defined consensus as "the process of abandoning all beliefs, principles, values and policies in search of something in which no one believes, but to which no one objects; the process of avoiding the very issues that have to be solved, merely because you cannot get agreement on the way ahead."

She questioned the effectiveness of consensus by asking, "What great cause would have been fought and won under the banner 'I stand for consensus'?".

Very Randian ...

108 Petro claims that one of the members declared killed on the smuggling boat -- and since this is in response to the USN providing the names of the two crew out of four that were killed on that submarine I guess that is what it is about -- was just a fisherman who was fishing alone in territorial waters, it came out in the Colombian papers that Mr Innocent Fisherman had been implicated and done time for stealing over 200 firearms from his local police department for a small regional gang/cartel.

Oh and he was the only one who did time, the cops who were implicated did not get jail time for some reason, so there is that too.

Petro is being accused of getting a lot of reelection money from Venezuela, and I suspect he is getting heat because those narco-subs are pretty expensive for a single-use vessel

Omg, he woulda been better off with the original. The cover-up looks terrible and cheapy done. He went from Nazi to Cthulhu tentacle porn.

I'm not sure which is worse:

1. He knowingly gets a tattoo with Nazi symbols, thinking it looks cool and that the symbol predates the Nazis so it's not really a "Nazi tattoo." He young and reckless at the time. Probably had no plans to run for political office.

2. He's so fucking stupid he gets a tattoo without making any effort to determine what it means if anything. Like getting Chinese symbols that secretly say "I suck donkey dick." Then, he's so fucking stupid he spends the next 20 years not knowing what tattoo means, to the point where he openly displays it on camera at a fucking wedding.

3. He's an actual Nazi.

This chair of the Heritage Conservation Committee is named Priya Jain. She was born and raised in India. Did her undegrad studies in India. Speaks in a thick Indian accent. And seems to write on exclusively India related topics, with recent academic publications such as “Clean, Cool Air: Health and Air Conditioning in India,” and "Planning of the Indian Institute of Technology (1951) in Kharagpur."

This is all fine on its own, but that she is the chair of the American Heritage Conservation Committee and is lecturing Trump form the perch of our National Public Radio on the appropriate architectural design of the White House, seems indicative of... something.

Part of the plot involves him going to a Haitian tattoo artist for a unique tattoo - this tattoo artist takes one look at the rocker's tattoos and mutters something about "the garbage people put on their bodies...people with $50 burning a hole in their pockets".

Decent episode. Probably the one with the most amount of nudity too, courtsey of the rocker's groupie. Tia Carrere is also in this episode, but no nudity from her, if you care about that kinda stuff, .

I was stationed in Japan for three years and I have to say them electing a female prime minister goes against everything I remember from my time there. Women were literally second class citizens back in the early 90s and relegated to house work, raising children or menial retail sales positions. I would never have bet that in a short 35 years they would have elected a female prime minister.

Refugees become citizens, i.e., Ilhan Omar, born in Somalia, became a U.S. citizen in 2000 after her family was granted refugee status and immigrated to the United States in the 1990s.

AI Overview: Most Somalis in the USA are refugees, who arrived through the formal U.S. refugee resettlement program after fleeing the civil war and political instability in Somalia. While some have also been granted Temporary Protected Status (TPS), the largest portion of the Somali population in the U.S. came through the refugee program.

There's something subtle and cool happening in South America. Instead of the usual "nation building" nonsense from our perspective, the US administration recognizes how persuasive success can be if a natural anti-corruption representative government takes root on its own. Argentina had Bolivians looking over the fence and realizing...."Hey, check them out. We can do that." Now Bolivia has taken their first steps away from socialism. They have a big long fence with Brazilians looking over. And, should Bolivia (and Argentina) start to dominate the region economically with all the bells and whistles enjoyed by their citizens, guess what happens in short order in Brazil.
