National Gas Price Average Falls Below $3/Gallon for First Time Since... Trump's Last Term in Office

BuT wHaT aBoUt TrUmP's PrOmIsE tO rEdUcE iNfLaTiOn

Gas prices have dropped under $3 a gallon nationwide for the first time since 2020 -- a milestone the Trump administration is crediting to its aggressive push for American energy dominance and expanded domestic production.

According to GasBuddy's head of petroleum analysis Patrick De Haan, the national average hit $2.99 on Monday -- the earliest in years that prices have fallen below the $3 mark. "Gas prices have finally fallen below $3 per gallon nationally -- the earliest date we've seen a $2.99 national average since 2020, when COVID was the primary driver of low prices," De Haan said, adding that 35 states now report averages under $2.99 per gallon. He noted that GasBuddy even recorded a $1.99 cash price in Evans, Colorado, with Oklahoma and Texas stations close behind.

De Haan attributed part of the trend to increased oil production by OPEC+, but many in Washington are pointing to President Trump's pro-energy policies as the real catalyst. The White House released a statement Monday touting the achievement as a direct result of Trump's commitment to "unleashing American energy production" and reversing what it called "years of Biden-induced economic disaster."

...

During Biden's tenure, gas prices soared to record highs, peaking at $4.60 a gallon in 2022 -- a 45 percent increase from when he took office. At the time, Biden blamed Russia's invasion of Ukraine for the surge.

18 The last time the average US gas price was under $2.00/gallon -- other than during the Plandemic -- was February 2016.

Gas prices typically go down in November each year. Lower demand than during summer (lots of Americans travel for summer trips). Switch to winter blend, which is cheaper to produce than summer blend. Among other factors.

And a bit on topic, if gas is cheaper people can take a driving vacation instead of flying somewhere. I am loving the lower prices at the pump, but diesel is still high at most stations that have space for a big trailer and especially at full on truck stops.

Wtf is this guy trying to say? This is barely English.

Is he talking about this being the first time gas has EVER been below $3 since 2020? Or the earliest date in the year that prices have been below $3? Prices usually rise during summer and then drop off.

Another point I can't wait to see in the Winsome/Vance debates in 2028. Winsome seems to be trying to prevent a predicted price spike by begging the exiting gas companies (Valero and Chevron as I recall) to stick around, so he'll probably either force through a subsidy or blame Big Oil.

83 I'm tired of hearing how good the economy is because of averages and how well the stock market is doing

Since Trump's election if the stock market is up it shows he is controlled by the rich and if it is down it shows he has destroyed the economy.

Amusingly under the Junta it was reversed - if stocks were up it was a sign that Joe has fixed everything and if they were down it was a sign that Joe cared about normal people not the rich.

Now, the stock market is a poor proxy for the economy overall, but a significant portion of the population has some stock holdings (especially if you consider 401ks) so you do want to see consistent growth, but yeah, the FNM pays too much attention to it.

Apparently, Costco doesn't do futures contracts on gas. They spot price purchase the gas from their suppliers.

So, it moves with the oil market much more tightly than most gas stations which do have futures contracts.

I also suspect that Costco has a policy to sell gas at certain margins and no more, kind of like how they'll always sell the hot dogs for $1.50.

Gas is absolute shit these days. Forget the loss in potency, it becomes downright destructive. I had to deal with a few harleys a couple years ago where asshats let their injected bikes sit a few years. The injectors were frozen solid, the fuel pumps were seized, the internal fuel lines were cracked. They were a mess. On bikes with carburetors so you start seeing a blackish tar forming in the bottom of the bowl drain plugs. Gas today is shit.

163 141 the majority of states with under $3 gas on average are low income, low cost of living, and relatively poor Red states compared to the states that don’t have $3 gas.

Republican ran states are showing signs (lower energy prices) of recession faster than Dem ran states. Broke, unemployed people in our globalist-looted economy aren't doing much driving.

Killing demand is the best way to lower prices. Price of gas always crates when economy enters a recession, so thanks Trump. Recall 2008, 2020, etc...

1. Portraying low cost of living as a bad thing is certainly something.

2. This is obviously very selective economic sign reading. Deporting a shit ton of people (while GDP at 4% still) is going to produce weird numbers here and there.

3. See deportations.

Deportations are deflationary.

Posted by: Elric The Blade at October 21, 2025 03:20 PM (iFTx/)
==========================

Once the COVID panic set in and the lockdowns were issued, consumption of gasoline by vehicles plummeted since:

(1) A large proportion of the people still employed were now teleworking all the time rather than commuting to work at least part of the time
(2) A large proportion of people lost employment, if only temporarily, and were therefore no longer commuting to work
(3) Tourism crashed since so many tourist attractions were shut down, and it even became difficult to dine at restaurants et cetera

The price of oil futures actually became negative in April, though only briefly, and the average price of gasoline fell below two dollars per gallon. With the economy recovering rapidly in the six months after April, and lockdowns easing in most of the country, gasoline/oil consumption and prices increased from those April lows.

You know, the more I've looked into that high speed rail in Cali, the more cynical I've become about the true purpose. I think it was a disguise for a covert land grab from generational farmers and privately held land. Since 2013, California has applied eminent domain on well over 700 properties, and those gas taxes partially paid for the acquisitions. Eminent Domain cases are open on the proposed rail path to this day...many of them. When the project is ultimately scrapped, California will be declaring more State held "Parks."

I've always believed that is a "right tool for the job" kind of question. I hardly ever keep a car for more than 90,000 miles, and I've never had engine problems using ethanol. But if you're trying to hang on to a car for 200,000 miles, maybe paying 45 cents a gallon more for the ethanol-free gas is worth it? There's some math to that equation, and this is a math-free zone.

301 Ethanol congeals over time... clogging the shit out of everything.
Posted by: Romeo13

=======

The problem with ethanol is that it hygroscopic: absorbs moisture from the air, which then starts to corrode the innards of your engine.

Ethanol-free gas (or the non-ethanol part of ethanol gas) also oxidizes over time, which can form varnish and gums up the works. You still need stabilizer for the latter, but you can make the gas last five years or more.

Ethanol gas can also be stabilized but your max lifetime is about 12 months.

Store your equipment either completely full or completely empty.

Not yet, but they should!

Instead, they carved out some mangled 2-door version of the Charger. The revamped Challenger from 2012 forward had the looks of a classic Charger. The 2-door Charger they brought out this year...doesn't look like a classic Charger.

But...it would never be worth it since there is little in Alaska and just about nothing on the Russian side.

Giant hovercraft ferries, that could carry an entire railway train. They could run all year long, over water, over ice, over breaking-up ice.

Don't know if Russian railways use the same track gauge, though. But build some roads, and truckers could do it.

Yesterday I saw something hat one rarely sees these days: A young lady who purposely dresses down as badly as she can, because she's naturally so good-looking that she wants to stop people from noticing her, so she can live her life in peace.

This girl was, approximately, a 9.5 out of 10, probably in her late teens. From the back she wore old baggy jeans, worn-out dirty tennis shoes, and a sloppy rumpled sweatshirt, and greasy unwashed hair. From the front she was revealed to be, despite zero makeup, one of Humankind's Great Beauties, without even trying. She kept her gaze down and tried to avoid eye contact, trying to "pass" as a normal-looking person.

This is exact opposite of most other mid-range girls who do their best to look as appealing as possible (within whatever framework of fashion/style they have chosen).

429 I get eggs at Aldi for about 2.60 a dozen, 15 bean soup for 2.15, and smoked summer sausage runs about 4.50 per pound. Make a crock pot full every Saturday with carrots, an onion, and crushed red pepper, add two pounds of sausage the last hour after it cooks over night and have it for lunch every day for a week. Ends up being less than 2 bucks a day for a hearty, protein packed meal.
