So sad that much if no all of MTV is going away. MTV, VH1 and other once great music channels gone. I loved the videos that were very well done. TV cable is going away, If like remembering your youth, when music was something to escape into. Won't miss Yo! Raps though. Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes. 50 degrees here at Stately Poppins Manor, with rain on the way.
I spent the weekend watching two performances of Titanic: The Musical at the Ogunquit Playhouse in Maine. A very good show, near-Broadway calibre and almost as good as the original 1997 production. My only sour note came from my own dark soul, when I watched the performers and thought to myself that I'll never create something as beautiful as the music pouring out from the orchestra pit or as meaningful as the book and lyrics. I wish a lot of things every day* - that I were thinner, better looking, desirable, richer, sober - but the one thing I want most of all is to be able to have just one day of complete happiness. *despite my once having written that the most horrible words in the word are "I wish." Posted by: Krebs v Carnot: Epic Battle of the Cycling Stars(TM) - what makes you think you are in charge? at October 21, 2025 05:27 AM (xG4kz) trouper noun an actor or other entertainer, typically one with long experience: an old trouper out for one last look at his adoring public. • a reliable and uncomplaining person: a real trouper, Ma concealed her troubles. USAGE The traditional spelling for the sense ‘a reliable and uncomplaining person’ is trouper, not trooper. More than two thirds of examples of this use in the Oxford English Corpus are spelled trooper, however, and this form has become common even in edited text. Thank you, Fen. It pretty much came to a head on Sunday night when the pain was so bad I could not sleep. So I fired up the computer and did a search on the specific symptoms. Naturally the most dire ones show up first. "Hey, did you know that this is a potential sign of a heart attack?" But I didn't have any other symptoms so I called the advice nurse.

Regarding the Amazon outage, I have a work tale.
The last time this kind of outage happened, I was working on a different contract. I came in to the office and was quickly greeted by one of the engineers who warned me ahead of time about it. No problem. I settle in and do what work I can. But since I was the point of contact over this, I was getting a lot of visitors. I printed out a sign that said "We are aware of the outage. At this time there is no ETA on resolution." The engineer that warned me about things gave me some balloons to frame it. Worked great. Posted by: NR Pax at October 21, 2025 05:54 AM (99eI0) 72

Wolfus, I always found it funny that you could tell who wrote songs for America by their theme. Dewey Bunnell wrote the "outside" songs, ( like Horse With No Name ) and Gerry Beckley wrote the "inside" songs, ( like Daisy Jane ).

BBC On Friday, Mikey McCoy, Kirk's former chief of staff, read out an open letter to the Oxford Union on The Charlie Kirk Show podcast. It accused the union of becoming a place where "presidents of the union publicly celebrate the assassination of a political opponent". The letter said that if Mr Abaraonye were to remain in post, Kirk's allies would "personally contact every American political speaker who has ever graced the union's chamber and urge them never again to lend their name, time or reputation to that institution that has betrayed its founding ideals". MP4, "thinner" and "sober" are both things under your control. The second usually requires help; AA is free, and it works. (I know this from long personal experience.)
The "thinner" part is fairly simple. Note that I did not say "easy." But eating less (and fewer carbs) and walking some distance every day is a simple routine to get into. And I know also from long personal experience that exercising three or four times a week will lift your spirits, and your energy level, immeasurably. Please give these suggestions a try. We do not want to lose your voice, insights, and presence around here. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at October 21, 2025 06:33 AM (omVj0) 105

AG retweeted Shawn Farash @Shawn_Farash 19h Let me explain to you what Candace Owens is doing: Candace is trying to coax those who are bound by the gag order in the Kirk assassination case (which is normal for cases of that magnitude to ensure a fair trial) to violate the gag order. This could trigger a mistrial. If it does, she will say that a mistrial occurred because "the case fell apart" due to there being "too many holes" when, in reality, SHE will have caused the case's collapse due to procedural violations. When she is then threatened and possibly charged with witness tampering and obstruction, she will claim she is being "censored" and that *THEY* are trying to "shut her down" for "asking questions." This ends with no justice for Charlie Kirk and all eyes on Candace Owens, which is precisely what she wants. This is all transparently a grift and it is time that everyone stops being afraid to call it what it is. Posted by: m at October 21, 2025 06:39 AM (RuTUS) 114

Good morning, Hordians. Got a project finished yesterday, starting another today or tomorrow, and I have a phone call this morning about a third one. The search firm I work with sends me requests from clients - usually unclear, badly written and with no references to work from - I do them, write a report and send it to the firm, who sends it off to the client. I almost never hear back from anyone whether what I've done is good, bad, useless or helpful. But they keep sending me work to do, frequently from the same clients, so no one seems to be too dissatisfied. Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at October 21, 2025 06:49 AM (tgvbd) 126

“Horse with no name” was produced, the entire album actually, by George Martin of Beatless fame. It has a few different guitar overdubs. The main riff is done in kind of a strange tuning, dropping the low E string into something odd. If you do that, it’s pretty easy to get the “vibe” going. “Ventura Highway” isn’t too complicated to play, but they are playing about 90 miles an hour. “Gator lizards in the air” refer to large cumulus afternoon thunderstorm clouds.
