Now Editor in Chief of CBS, Bari Weiss Takes Her First Woke Scalp

The head of CBS News' standards and practices unit -- who presided over some of the network's recent controversial, woke reporting -- is out as new boss Bari Weiss looks to bring more balance to the left-leaning network.
Claudia Milne, who ran the division responsible for the moral, ethical and legal implications of CBS programming, is the first senior executive to leave the network since Weiss arrived as editor in chief earlier this month.
Although Milne's job had been "slowly phased out," a CBS source called her departure "significant."
"She was part of the woke mob at CBS News. It shows an editorial shift in how CBS will operate," the person said, speculating that "this is Bari's first scalp."

Milne, who oversaw her unit since 2021, played a pivotal role in a host of eyebrow-raising decisions. Those ranged from coverage of the transgender Nashville, Tenn., shooter and spiking an Elon Musk interview to the network's recent reporting on the Israel-Hamas conflict, among other issues.

As previously reported by The Post, in 2023, Milne and then-news division president Ingrid Ciprian-Matthews banned staffers from using the word "transgender" when reporting on the Nashville shooter.
The decision sparked outrage at the network because police working the case had identified the killer, Audrey Hale, as a transgender woman. Sources said Ciprian-Matthews and Milne spent 15 minutes telling staffers not to report Hale's identity because it may not be relevant to the shooter's motive.

"This is absurd because the police identified Hale as transgender," a CBS insider said at the time "If the cops didn't address it, maybe you could avoid it, but withholding information is not journalism."
Milne was also one of the executives who blocked former CBS News correspondent Catherine Herridge from interviewing Musk in 2023, The Post has learned. Herridge declined to comment.

Another surprising moment in which Milne played a part was last year's criticism of "CBS Mornings" co-host Tony Dokoupil after he grilled author Ta-Nehisi Coates over his one-sided polemic against Israel, which the writer compared to an "apartheid" state.

Then-news division President Wendy McMahon and her number two Adrienne Roark said Dokoupil's interview did not meet the "editorial standards" of the network during a staff meeting last year, citing a lack of neutrality and objectivity.

CBS News - specifically 60 Minutes - was also heavily criticized for its coverage of the Israel-Gaza war.
Network veteran Stahl specifically came under fire over her treatment of a Hamas hostage, with conservatives accusing her of being sympathetic towards the terrorist group in a damning April interview.
Stahl was slammed after she asked former hostage Keith Siegel if Hamas terrorists starved him on purpose or if they just did not have any food to hand out.
Seigel, who spent 484 days in captivity, replied: 'No, I think they starved me, and they would often eat in front of me and not offer me food.'

But framing her moves to get the network to some semblance of balance (good luck, hon) as "taking scalps" really cheapens her efforts and the dire need for a return to normalcy becomes an Us v Them spectacle. I'm glad the authoritarian PTA mom has been sacked. People like her have no business in the orbit of a news room. But I think the more Weiss can do in the name of restoring truth and objectivity without the added battle of being seen as siding with the Right, the more successful she'll be.

CBS was just purchased by Paramount, run by CEO David Ellison. Ellison is interested in making major changes, and Weiss has a chance to do so because it is understood that she now answers only to Ellison, not to anyone at CBS.

It's significant because there are rumors of takeovers that could also put CNN in Ellison's hands within a year. Nothing definite, but heaven knows that the current owners would love to dump it.

I think the protestors are a sad grundle of undesirables from all generations. The older boomers at the protests are getting all of the attention, but if you look you'll see there are worthless shitheads of all ages in the pics and videos. 176 Miz Weiss looks like a more buffed & made up version of my ex-nun SIL, with short hair. Same smug expression. She is very OCD. Should be crowned the Queen of OCD in housecleaning. There is not a dust mote to be had in her condo. Nor would she have a male friend as icky or something penis (which she probably does not want to think about). She tried the lesbian deal out of the convent, with a butch type, that rocked her parent's world and freaked out our sons.

This is what she does all day: scrubs non dirty walls, etc. No pets and she cleans homes of other family members because it is !fun! We live about 20min away and she claims poor vision, and not driving here (we don't know why, because she can spot a crumb on my floor from 20' away). Also! I would have to day drink to have her here cleaning and freaking out about my dust collections.

I am super tired from being social for what seems to have started in early September, and want to return to my hermit cave. Lots of yardwork, housework, etc into eternity as far as I can see vs sitting by the fire and proud of being DONE. I am never done, which would be depressing if I truly cared.

I am far from OCD in the event anyone wondered.

CBS staffers should consider this exact question. They're being let down easy, IMO, with Bari Weiss coming on to replace whatever woke people were previously in charge. She's a former NYT editorial page writer and columnist, she's a successful media entrepreneur, but she's gentle and in tune with their basic sensibilities (I'm guessing).

If this is a trip CBS is on, from failure town to relevant town, then the next stop after Weiss is going to really rock their world.

FYI, my brother was at a big convention for tech that included supposedly advanced robots. There was a robot "dog" there that was quite good (it could do a backflip).

But the humanoid robots were clunky, slow, error-prone, and not nearly as advanced as the vids I've seen with robots doing karate moves, etc. I have long suspected those vids are mostly if not totally CGI.

My wife has a horrible habit - she wanders off in strange cities. She has no spider sense for danger whatsoever in big cities. She just assumes everything will be fine. because everything has always been fine.

me, in the big city my head is on a swivel, looking for potential danger.

She doesn't know what real danger even looks like or recognizes it very late in the game. We've had to have the "talk" several times, where I have to gently chastise her for doing dumb stuff that could get her killed.
