9 Getting the old Win10 laptop ready for Linux Mint. Already have one laptop using it and I've used it before on an ancient Dell Workstation (power supply croaked, so I may use the frame for something else now), so I know Mint will run on just about anything. I'll install it on my next days off. Pretty much have everything backed up. Didn't have much on it anyway. I have MS Win11 on a Beelink mini-pc. I not sure for how much longer. I'm not liking the direction MS is going.

My brother is very good poker player - he has won the City of Houston championship, and made it to the final table the next time it was held. When he went to Vegas he cleaned out the local rounders. He would have been on TV or a poker live stream if he had. Now, a Chinese Billionaire could have "lost" that much to him as a payoff by going "all in" with a 7-2 offsuit in a private game.

It’s inertia for Windows that keeps it going.
So many businesses and consumers have been using Windows for so long it’s difficult to move to something new. Especially when that involves backing everything up and installing a new OS, then learning how to use the new OS.

For businesses that’s a non-starter for most of them.

For individuals, it’s still mostly computer nerds and people who despise Microsoft AI & telemetry that are moving to Linux now.

But gamers are an untapped market if they ever start putting out more ports of games for Linux so they can all run natively.

I suspect SteamOS will help some there.

That usually happens to me in grocery stores when somebody I didn’t see comes up behind me in an aisle jabbering away and then I do the same thing as you, before I say “Oh, you weren’t talking to me” as they point to their headset.

Some people really love to talk their during every second of being awake,

I’m sure in their dreams they’re wearing their Bluetooth and blabbing away as they fall off a building.

I really need to dig into WINE, Proton, and similar software to figure out how to get Windows programs to run properly in Linux. Sometimes there simply aren't alternatives in the open source world (like my yearly tax filing software.)

My Dad got weaker and weaker the longer he sat for a year and a half.

Only saw him fall once and that was because he was on blood thinners and got light-headed when he stood up too quick.

By the end he barely got up and had a walker so at least he never broke anything or hit his head.

The idiot was coming from in back of her car on the driver's side. He stopped briefly - then decided to continue walking in back of her car. Like I said "Idiot". Her car was too old to have a back up camera - so she was looking over her right shoulder, and he was coming from her blind spot. He hopped away when it became obvious he was going to be run over. Of course he yelled at her. Idiot.

yeah, as time goes by, some of your software will just stop working, and you'll start losing some functionality on some web sites, so I guess it depends on what you're doing, 'puter-wise

there wasn't any significant loss of functionality until about a year ago (my e-mail host cut off my "outdated" Outlook)

This one has numerous shots of Aliquippa, PA interspersed with shots of Great Britain. My former FiL from my first marriage worked at the Aliquippa steel mill. I have a sense of fondness for that place, even though there remains only vestiges of what it once was. In that sense, it resembles my own home town, which has succumbed to being a tourist destination and thereby is pricing the locals out of house and home.

The English Horn player is easy on the eyes, too, here.
