Hail Mary, full of grace, blessed art thou among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death. From the tech thread:
I encountered those two arrested for Antifa terrorism at a shooting range in Houston several years ago, and told people I had met an antifa sniper team. The Tranny was the shooter, and a very skilled (1 MOA) shot, the spotter with the beard made the same wind calls I would have made. They were surprised I talked to them. I am surprised that they didn't kill anyone in that attack. I took them as seriously as I would have taken a Soviet era sniper team. I now understand that the police officer who was shot in the neck surprised the two while they were on foot, not in sniper firing positions, and that the Tranny made an offhand shot on him. Very few people survive being shot in the neck. However they failed at the most important part of sniping: (learned this from an actual Vietnam era sniper) hiding and running away after you make a shot. I request prayers for two of my cow-orkers, "S" and "C" just got married: may they have a long and fruitful marriage. "S" is a good dude, and "C" is Catholic and a very sweet girl.
Just to show that God has a sense of humor, a number of years ago, "S" was talking about one of his buddies marrying a Catholic girl and how the Catholic Church required them to take classes in preparation for marriage. "That's dumb," said my cow-orker "S". Well fast-forward 4 or 5 years and "S" is marrying a traditionalist Catholic girl. She grew up in a Tredintine Latin Mass parish and she's active in the Right-to-Life ministry. I've gone to Mass with "C" and her folks. CO gray wolf reintroduction update:
"Montrose County introduces ordinance prohibiting non-native animal species"... (...including gray wolves.) https://is.gd/tUe52d Not much informatioon on how they plan to enforce this. It sounds like this sets up a direct confrontation between the country and the state. At least one gray wolf has been tracked roaming deep into Montrose County via GPS collar. The state wolf reintroduction law prohibits shooting gray wolves except if they are caught in the act of attacking livestock. This ordinance will probably turn out to be largely symbolic on the part of the county. Posted by: muldoon at October 18, 2025 08:51 AM (/iMjX) 47

That road. The road is damned.
I'm gonna ask Ai what is the speed limit on the road from Dallas to Austin on interstate 35. 1. The speed limit on Interstate 35 between Dallas and Austin, Texas, is not a single speed but varies based on whether the highway passes through rural or urban areas. The limits generally range from 60 to 75 mp. 2. how fast do cars go there? I35 between Dallas and Austin, actual driving speeds are typically higher than the posted limits in rural areas, while heavy traffic often forces speeds below the limit in urban sections. 2. I bring up the Gray Wolf program in CO because it is a microcosm or real world laboratory of one of the major flaws of legislation via ballot measure (aka 'pure democracy') (aka Californication).
The measure was place on the general ballot by a small group of eco-nuts from Boulder who claimed it would "restore ecologic balance". Voters passed it by the slimmest of margins (50.9 to 49.1), with a big boost from the Denver/Boulder metroplex. And the brunt of the downside is borne by counties west of the Continental Divide where ranching and farming are major part of the economy. Quite literally an example of two city dwellers and a rancher voting on what a wolf will have for lunch (as the old saying goes). Posted by: muldoon at October 18, 2025 09:36 AM (/iMjX) 113

We tax the rain.
Posted by: The People's Republic of Maryland at October 18, 2025 09:32 AM (SeSfo) --- Trump 2.0 has exposed many things, but one of the most profound is how fundamentally dishonest and/or stupid economists are about inflation. Taxes do not increase inflation. They cannot. They pull money out of the market and put it into unproductive use. If you want to crush an economy, you tax the snot out of it. Works every time. So this notion that tariffs could cause inflation is like saying sales taxes cause inflation: total nonsense. It's just an excuse to call them bad, scare people and avoid addressing the fact that tariffs have long been known to benefit countries using them, which is why all the other countries that tariff our goods never talk about rampant inflation because there is none. They certainly don't let rural voters decide what happens in the cities. Posted by: SpeakingOf at October 18, 2025 09:53 AM (6ydKt) --- This is the result of yet another judicial overreach, requiring "one man, one vote" for legislative districts. I'm too lazy to look it up, but there was a time when states could also use a 'republican' voting system, dividing the legislature between a House based on pure population, and a Senate that functioned as a "house of counties" to provide geographic balance. The idea was pretty obvious - wide tracts of rural residents should be protected from the tyranny of the majority, but this was inconvenient to the left, so like every other impediment to their power, and was against the Penumbra of Eminations Clause in the Constitution. --------- There's an effort underway to get AI datacenters built in predominantly rural areas. One such datacenter was planned for a multi-acre plot of farmland about 10 miles from me. It's all rural land. There is an electric substation there, but water would have been an issue. And the zoning commission in that county was oblivious to all the power and water requirements. They assumed they'd just pass the costs to the public. They assumed wrong. It's been defeated in the zoning commission due to public outrage. More datacenters are planned elsewhere. Posted by: Martini Farmer at October 18, 2025 10:37 AM (Q4IgG) There is almost no public support, but great Corporate support. Which explains the terms of the conflict right there. I think all power centers should be required to build their own dedicated power generating station that they pay for exclusively. Since a data center provides very little local support or economic benefit. Posted by: Tom Servo at October 18, 2025 10:45 AM (P1cdj) --------- The scam is to pass on the overhead electric and water costs to the residential customers. The datacenter gets a sweet, multi-year deal on cut rates for those services. The purported "benefit" is the tax. If the land is rezoned from "rural/farm" to "LI" (light industry) the property taxes increase. Posted by: Martini Farmer at October 18, 2025 10:48 AM (Q4IgG) 181
