Daily Tech News 16 October 2025

  • Apple has announced its new M5 chip - it's one more than the M4 - and new models of the MacBook Pro, iPad Pro, and Vision Pro. (Tech Crunch)

    Vision Pro? Really? They're still trying to push their $3500 paperweight?

    Anyway, the M5 has 10 CPU cores - four fast cores and six slower ones - and 10 GPU cores, compared with the M4, which has 10 CPU cores - four fast cores and six slower ones - and 10 GPU cores.

    Uh.

    It's supposed to be about 15% faster. So that's exciting.

    Also there are no 8GB RAM options or 256GB SSD options in the new MacBook Pro lineup, and about bleedin' time.

    Apart from that it's the usual from Apple: Base model is not wildly overpriced, but memory and storage options whack you with a 1000% markup.

  • And the charger costs extra. (Notebook Check)

    In the EU, anyway, and they barely have steam over there let alone electricity.

9 It's 4am. Time for bed. But I made it for Pixy's thread. Cool.

I'm still up actively working on my project with BOTH ChatGPT and Grok.

I actually have them cooperating on finding solutions to our problems. It's actually pretty interesting. I'll present one's idea to the other. That generates other ideas. I bring it back to the first one and they get ideas. And with the back and forth, their blind spots dissolve and problems get fixed.

Let's keep that amongst us humans.

It's 4am and the issue is FINALLY resolved. What I'm working on isn't earth shatteringly difficult either. Should be better tomorrow.

Everyone have a good day or night or whatever.

17 So, did that mean Anthropic has impenetrably stupid humans or you intend to triple you revenue in 2026? Both?

On the Nvidia desktop AI box, one consideration is that the higher price is a one-time thing, while the performance difference is forever. If the same tasks are noticeably faster, it adds up to a chunk of your life. As I have advised on those shopping for displays, a higher price only hits you once but you'll be living with that screen for years.

OTOH, if the following year's AMD APU box is about the same price with a significant performance improvement, you can have both and run them cooperatively for AI and separately for more conventional uses.

I'm serious. Reddit reached back to Jewish subreddits that complained and told them not to crosspost, and only to report on Judenhass that happened in those subreddits. I fled Him, down the nights and down the days;
I fled Him, down the arches of the years;
I fled Him, down the labyrinthine ways
Of my own mind; and in the mist of tears
I hid from Him, and under running laughter.
Up vistaed hopes, I sped;
And shot, precipitated,
Adown Titanic glooms of chasmèd fears,
From those strong Feet that followed, followed after.
But with unhurrying chase,
And unperturbèd pace,
Deliberate speed, majestic instancy,
They beat - and a Voice beat
More instant than the Feet -
"All things betray thee, who betrayest Me."

Pretty much flogging the need for security updates and critical updates. If I don't update to 11 and continue to use Bitdefender will I run the risk of having my computer's security compromised? I also use a very, very old piece of software that I've nursed through 3 or 4 upgrades, it's desktop publishing that no longer gets updated due to the company going out of business. 97 Just disabled Secure Boot on my Win 10 machine. Exported the favorites from MS Edge and imported onto the Linux machine (Brave and Firefox). When I get up later today, I might go ahead and install Linux 21.2 on old Win10 machine.

Or just wait till Sunday, when I'm off.

99 Trump is busily building the new White House Party Palace and now he wants to build a triumphal arch, Roman style. No word on whether he intends herding Democrats through it and then throwing them into a pit.

It’s up to you and whatever risk level you’re comfortable with.

Stay on Win10 on those machines if you want.
Just make sure you keep BitDefender updated in case there are any exploits hackers come up with.

If you ever get paranoid you could always airgap the PCs and never connect to them the internet, they’ll be safe as can be at that point.

Keep an eye out here and elsewhere for any articles on Win10 being hacked and then worry about it.

103 Trump did a deal in Gaza to do a deal. Either he got pwned by Hamas or he knew it was all bullshit but didnt care.

Either way Israel got fucked. You cannot deal with those savages. Only destroy them.

You are missing the big deal - that Israel and the larger Muslim Mid East are all invested in getting along and getting ahead. The Muzzie trash has been trashed by all the real players in the Mid East. Those that play to get even always lose.

105 Windows 10 users, if you check in setting for the end of support message, they're giving a year of updates for free if meet certain requirements. One of them seems to be using OneDrive, which was already a given for me. So far all three machines attached to my account have been enrolled without problems. Hopefully, a year from now, I'll have more options in terms of newer hardware. I expect desktop Linux may see a lot of improvement with the influx of new users to engage.
