Bishop Paolo? Bishop Forced to Resign After Being Accused of Having 17 Secret Lovers
A Peruvian bishop submitted his resignation to Pope Leo after a Vatican investigation revealed that he was secretly dating multiple women simultaneously. 51-year-old Ciro Quispe Lopez, the bishop of Juli, in Peru, stands accused of having up to 17 secret lovers. Although he denies the allegations against him as part of a defamation campaign by ‘dark hands’, Lopez handed in his resignation to the Pope last month, more than two decades earlier than Catholic bishops usually retire. The Vatican investigation began after an investigation by Kevin Moncada, a journalist for the Peruvian newspaper Sin Fronteras, found that Ciro Quispe Lopez had been exchanging explicit messages, photos and videos with various women. On top of that, he accidentally sent pictures and videos intended for his mistresses to his house cleaner, who alerted the Catholic Church. “A nun who was one of Quispe’s lovers was jealous of a lawyer the bishop was also seeing and sent information about his affairs to a third lover who got into a fight with the lawyer,” Paola Ugaz, a Peruvian journalist who has seen a Vatican document on the investigation, told The Times. “It was a real soap opera, but also lifted the lid on a serious abuse of power. Many of the 17 women were too scared to come forward because they were frightened of him.”The Paolo he, how you say, gives mad respect.

Just days after the federal government shut down, a wave of illicit activity began in Yosemite National Park. Since the beginning of October, there has been an uptick in illegal camping, unpermitted hiking, and BASE jumping within the park. Half Dome, one of the most sought-after hikes in the park, has seen hikers taking advantage of the strained resources to score a trip up on the peak’s infamous cabled section without a permit. Recent videos and photographs show walls of people on the iron cables, likely a result of unpermitted hikers attempting the summit at the same time as those with permits. At this time, it’s unclear how many Yosemite employees were deemed “essential” to continue operations during the government shutdown. But with significant park resources like visitor centers and information booths closing down across the country, national parkgoers are unable to access ordinarily available resources. In addition, national park websites don’t get regular updates during government shutdowns, which contributes to a lack of information to incoming visitors. The shutdown hasn’t just brought hikers trying to sneak onto famous trails; it has also brought illegal campers, according to reporting by SFGATE. They shit wherever they want, don't clean it up, set fires even when there is a fire ban, I could go on and on.
They had to shut down a popular lake because of so much shit in the water, it was hazardous.
It takes a lot of employees to keep up with stuff. With the shutdown all his employees are furloughed.

At the parking area for these, you will find a significant number of people start down the trail, but give up quickly.
The "viewing" lots are filled with people and cameras. Get a hundred yards from the parking lot on those trails and the number drops by 95%.

Yikes. No such thing up there. Moose, Wolf or deer tracks are the only trail you'll ever see in the snow. And in the non winter months, game trails become indistinguishable from the actual trail many times. If you take a wrong portage all the bays etc. all start looing the same. And in the winter odds are your tracks will be gone in a day or two weather depending.

Huh? On racing XC skis, maybe. Skis of "normal" width and length will stay up on top of anything except fresh powder. The big problem with XC skiing into deep backcountry is that most people aren't very good on real downhills. If your experience is on XC trails, you haven't gone down anything steep and long. Telemarking requires lots of training and practice, step turns are so slow they don't control speed, and holding a solid snowplow with floppy bindings is really difficult. That's where the problems arise.
I've taken boy scouts out on 10 mile overnights multiple times on deep snow in the Cascades. Skiing wasn't that big a problem, because we had them out training for 4 weekends before. Playing grabass in tents and collapsing them was.😎

Luna Grill is a new chain of fast food places, but they're a little unusual. They do Greek/mediterranean dishes, falafel, fresh hummus, that stuff. I love their beef gyros with chipotle sauce. Trying to explore fast food that's better for me than a Big Mac.

The snow up there is usually like sugar. Like 3 feet of it. If you have any substansial gear on your back or you're pulling a pulk, it's tough sledding (pun intended) The other and bigger issue. Rocks hidden under all that snow, gaps etc. Are XC skis doable up there? Yes, but on that terrain with zero marked trails I wouldn't. Snowshoes are about the only way to travel that time of year.

Having said that, I do feel it's okay to (a) try new things (b) that are healthy, such as the gyro I had tonight. It was good quality beef, cucumbers, pepperoncinis, tomatoes, romaine lettuce, that kind of thing. Nothing deep fried. :-)
But yes, I do need to learn better to cook. I've already mastered a few dishes. Chili, buffalo wings, red beans and rice. I want to learn more. And I want to keep experimenting with salads.

Sometimes when I really don't trust the world, I especially enjoy staying at home and making something. Last spring I was experimenting with making pastrami sandwiches at home. Was shredding the meat and everything. :-)

Good sandwiches start with the bread. Don't buy a package of rolls or bread, buy the loose ones in the bakery section. You'll need the high quality meat. That means the deli section, not the prepackaged. Then, the condiments you like on it. Try different breads to see which you like best.

For burgers at home, the first thing is never buy hamburger buns in the 8-pack. They suck bigly; too small. I use a roll and make a 1/4 to 1/3 lb. burger, shaped large to fit the bun.
Once they're shaped, I put salt, cracked black pepper and a dusting of smoked paprika on each side. I also prefer shaved lettuce over big honking pieces. But to each his own. You'll learn what you like the more you make something.
My Italian hero recipe is simple. The cold cuts (pepperoni, salami, smoked ham, then maybe mortadella with pistachios, hot or sweet capicola, or whatever feels good at the moment), imported provolone, a jar of roasted red pepper slices (patted dry), and a pureed spread of roasted garlic/Kalamata olives/Parmegianno Regianno. It elevates the sandwich.
Make the sandwich and wrap it in plastic and let it sit out a half-an-hour to an hour to get the chill off. Remember: The irony of cold cuts is they are not meant to be eaten cold.

All the Classico sauces are good for pizza. Prego is too thin and kind of acid tasting. Rao is far too expensive. Most of the others moderate the acid of the tomatoes with soybean oil and HFC

I buy a 29 oz. can of crushed tomatoes. I start a sauce pan with olive oil. Then I add crushed garlic, then the tomatoes and some black pepper. Finally, dried basil and orgeano, at least 4:1 as I like basil.
Cook for about 20-30 minutes. Cool and chill overnight. That's it. Pretty simple. Never put hot tomato sauce on raw dough.

Most of my cats have *loved* tomato-based sauces. They lived long lives, so couldn't have been too bad for them, LOL. Dogs are different, and I've never heard about tomato being 'bad' for them, but I will be careful if I ever get another dog!

I've used the round flatbreads before, when I'm too lazy to make dough, which isn't that hard at all. They're okay but store-bought bread has so much crap in it now. For me and my health issues, it's the high sodium in everything. Making things at home, I control the sodium/salt.

Something that I like to do with Pookette is mini-pizzas.
We take white hamburger bun bottoms, put sauce and cheese and toppings on them, and make garlic bread out of the bun tops.

Kix were good. a Baltimore band that got big, briefly. My favorite was Tesla, though I don't consider them a 'hair band'. They had hair, that was about it. They were a really solid rock band. I liked Tesla a lot.

I usually toss it in the pot, then add some vegetable or chicken broth. Also, then I add garlic sauce, sliced andouille sausage, the Rotel tomatoes & chilies, and maybe some paprika, diced garlic, Tabasco and what not.
I know it's nowhere near authentic, but at least it's tasty and homemade.

I found that there is little difference between instant grits, and Cream of Wheat. Either one makes a tolerable breakfast, sprinkled with a little brown sugar.
Not a gourmet experience, but neither is it totally nasty. A low-effort way to have a hot breakfast on a chilly day.

Like AOP said, near the consistency of cream of wheat. The Missus likes to make grits in a pot, stir in eggs, cheese, Tobasco, and a very small amount of Worcestershire sauce, then bake in the oven. Goes well with ham.

Kind of like polenta? It's ground corn, bleached by lye, and rinsed, and dried. Boiled up, it can be porridge for breakfast, or a carb alternate for rice or mashed potatoes for dinner. Can be quite tasty. Ask for it at Waffle House; they will have it.

There are yellow grits. We've got some here now. Miley has learned how to make grits perfectly now. She doesn't eat 'em, but she makes right for me and Mama now.
Don't get any grits except from where they're made right, and that's far enough inside the "South", whatever the exact boundaries are.
Waffle House makes pretty good grits. Any Southern restaurant worth it's salt will, although there are exceptions.

Okay. Dried beans, water, a ham hock, bay leaves and whole garlic cloves. Cook for an hour until partially done. Then add all the other goodies to finish.
I'll also add rendered kielbasa slices to the beans (to make it less greasy). Dry sausage slices work, too.

Grits are a vehicle for salt, pepper, and butter. For me, that's all I need. Now, cheese and shrimp and some other savory things are sometimes added. There's even some Jalapeno grits recipes. But never, ever, mix anything sweet with them.

That's pricey, but it's Amazon. I never buy big name brand grits. Any decent grocery store around here will always carry a local or near local mill stone ground grits.
Instant grits are abomination. Quick grits are terrible. True grits are the kind that take 20 -25 minutes. Getting the water to grits ratio and cooking time for the right consistency takes some fiddling when first learning, but nothing too tricky.

I was just looking into this. Stone ground and what I'll dub "regular" grits are not really the same. Stone ground is coarser and less refined, the kernel and germ gets ground up in the mix as well. This makes the shelf life less than regular grits (never been a problem, as I go through it fast enough).
The "20 minute" rule famously popularized in "My Cousin Vinny" is for the regular grits. Stone ground is more 25 minutes. Now, yellow stone ground can take even longer. I like yellow grits upon occasion.

Thanks. Stove is 16" from the wall. Had to use 15" of extensions and a deep socket, to reach the 4 mounting screws.. and work around lantern & flashlight.. and remove another part first, to get to them.
A little masking tape to hold the screw in it, while reaching deep into the guts of the stove-back, for re-installation... ugh.
