Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Trump Blows Up Another Venezuelan Drug-Smuggling Vote While Rand Paul Cries His Short Little Heart OutTrump blew up more drug smugglers. The United States struck another small boat accused of carrying drugs in the waters off Venezuela, killing six people, President Donald Trump said on Tuesday. Those who died in the strike were aboard the vessel, and no U.S. forces were harmed, the Republican president said in a social media post. It's the fifth deadly strike in the Caribbean as Trump's administration has asserted it's treating alleged drug traffickers as unlawful combatants who must be met with military force. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth ordered the strike Tuesday morning, said Trump, who released a video of it, as he had in the past. Hegseth later shared the video in a post on X. Trump said the strike was conducted in international waters and "Intelligence" confirmed the vessel was trafficking narcotics, was associated with "narcoterrorist networks" and was on a known drug trafficking route.

To understand Rand you have to know that he's trying his best to follow the "Non-Aggression Principle" that's central to American libertarian thought. His father was the same way.
At least Rand is consistent on this one issue. He also went after Obama hard for droning terrorists in the Middle East for the same reasons, especially when O hit that one guy who was an American citizen. I think both the Paul's fail on foreign policy and use of military force, but they seem to truly believe it all. I just don't think American constitutional rights extend to Venezuelan drug dealers who are more than likely doing with the approval, of not the support, of the Maduro regime. If they could nail Chinese fentanyl manufacturers (and from elsewhere like Mexico & Canada) with drone strikes I'd be behind that mission 110%. My guess is he wants it available OTC, but right now cities are funding it and giving it away for free. I bet he supports that. (My position is that it should be as illegal as the opiates. It is par aphelia for facilitating addiction since it removes the risk. I have seen kids in court find thousands of dollars for rolling paper and cigarette lighters, justified as "paraphernalia" and narcan is worse.) I think a big reason our efforts for the last number of years have been largely ineffective is because we have been treating it largely as a law enforcement problem. I don't view it that way.
