The point of a barrel is that the wine is in contact with wood. The larger the barrel, the lower the contact. You might as well make it of stainless steel.

I thought the point was to hold liquid? Seriously, though, that region of Germany makes mostly sweeter white wines, so maybe less woodiness is preferred? Plus, it's old and traditional. Steel wasn't as readily available or economical in Ye Olde Times.

Ogden Pleissner

Ogden Minton Pleissner was an American painter specializing in landscapes and war art related to his service in World War II. (Another one!)

Pleissner was known as a sports art painter, and his paintings are like photos (imho). Gibbes Museum org: His hunting, fishing, and landscape paintings reflect his deep reverence for wildlife and the natural world. The forty-eight watercolors on view depict scenes from Wyoming to Maine to the South Carolina coast during his illustrious career that spanned from the late 1920s until his death in 1983.

Like his body of work and would definitely hang some but perhaps not today's art offering.

And one thing that struck me is how many painting they had of farm workers toiling in the mud doing agricultural work in those palaces.

101 This is almost photorealistic. The proportions are exactly correct and the colors and shadows are natural. You have to enlarge the image a lot to be able to see the brush strokes. The one give away to being a painting is the building in the background which is not as precise.

According the interwebs, Ogden Pleissner considered himself to be a realistic landscape artist rather than romantic or dramatc. His outdoor scenes of fishing are remarkable for the way he captures water and details.

It doesn't make the rotation very often, mostly when everybody is home.

Fondue isn't so much a dinner as an activity to get you all sitting together eating, drinking, and talking.

It's fun.

When the kids were home, we had dinner every night at the same time with all expected to be there. Most times, we fed some of their friends. Not one other of those kid's families sat down together for dinner routinely.

That's why they came to our house. Sometimes, one of the kid's friends would be there after that kid left for college or the Navy.

It astounded me that all families didn't sit down together.

Warren Burger is an example why. Basically when chiefs try to manipulate the other justices to achieve their own agendas, the other justices, both liberal and conservative, distrust them. Even liberals like Brennan and Marshall preferred Rehnquist as Chief Justice than Burger because unlike Burger, Rehnquist never tried to manipulate cases so that his preferred legal position won.

Racial grievance groups vs (dwindling) white, blue collar union voters. The Dem Establishment has also been trying to moderate their base, but primarily to keep their internal interest groups from fighting one another.

Democrat money sources are so polluted right now by ActBlue shenanigans, I really have no feeling for how these vast funds are raised. Foreign? Oligarchs disguised through small donations? etc. And that is intentionally so where convoluted trails of money resemble those of cartel and terrorist financing networks.

On a few items, like troonism, they can be traced to the Pritzker family but that is not true across the board. A lot of Big Tech money was as much to prevent Big Tech from being ground up like other companies were by the Democrat regulatory and shakedown machine.

Once Scotus allowed unlimited dark money via Citizen's United, it is unclear exactly what is being spent now and how it is raised.

Depends on what you are going for--whole breasts, thighs, etc. have to cook longer because density of the meat--sometimes browning can limit the infiltration of the seasonings of the pot into the meat so the taste is still chicken.

If you chop them up, shred, etc, they tend to take on the overall flavoring of the surrounding liquid aka pot liquor for better or worse. It also cooks faster if that makes a difference.

The term working class predates Marx. Basically the difference between people that worked with their hands and strength versus those that were more managerial/brain oriented jobs. SES aka Socio Economic Status is what is used today by social scientists to separate the nexus of jobs and income.

For example, a garbage collector in unionized NYC makes more than a minister but is likely treated as lower SES than a minister.

Claiming it ain't so is simply refusing to recognize that different jobs and different classes of people exist. We are NOT a classless society nor were we ever. We are much less rigid and more fluid class system than somewhere like Euroland but it does exist here too.

I think Obama is there to shore up the black urban vote--the rest of those that still adore him are going to vote for the AWFLs anyway or have already done so. That being said, I am not sure how well Obama plays politically anymore in urban black communities other than toward the talented tenth types that seek to emulate him. And like other progressives, the talented tenth are going to vote for D anyway.

The poor and lower SES class blacks, I am not sure that Obama has much influence on turning them out. His constituency seems to be personal rather than extending to others throughout his career.

One way is to bake the chicken breasts, tenders, etc. and cook the rest of the ingredients in the crock pot. If you want more chicken flavoring in the crock pot ingredients, drop a bouillon cube in it. Then introduce the chicken breasts nicely browned with the chicken dish liquor at the last 30 minutes or so to the crockpot. Two dishes but still minimal cleanup.

Not so strange when you consider the Democrats are now a fully urban party. Their Top/Bottom reflects their urban stronghold politics and has a basis in past politics in other places like Venice (Adam's Defense of the Constitutions of teh United States describes it fully). The aristos (Guelphs and Ghibbelines) used the poors in those places as bully boys and persuaders by riots, political violence, etc. to compete with each other.

Others stayed out of politics as it was safer for property, life, and limb.

I think for a lot of blacks, Hispanics, or Muzzies that are working class or poor, to them, a vote for Dem candidates that are white is transactional as to whether or not to turn out. As in make it worth their while to vote. For the GOP, it is the rural quasi independent whites that often don't vote except perhaps in presidential years.

For them too, politics is transactional and Bush era politicians don't impress them enough to go to the polls.

That too me is the whole crux of the argument: the VRA is supposed to guarantee the right to vote. It isn’t to guarantee the right to a congressional seat.

Usually the campaigns ask surrogates to come in. But the surrogates usually don't unless they are needed and the surrogate views the race as winnable.

Sears, for example, just started getting bigwig surrogates like Ted Cruz to campaign for her when the polls showed her closing on Spanberger.

Usually a sign of a close race dependent on turnout when parties wheel in politicians from other places to campaign.

I can see that. Obama probably has more residual popularity in California than VA or NJ.

But groundwork campaigning is usually a sign of a close race, cutting an ad not so much. Back when I was doing actual empirical analysis of races, mail in voting was not much of a thing aside from WA and OR. It has made a mess of politics in numerous ways but reliance on mail in ballots discounts retail politics and incentivizes ads, ballot harvesting, and other tactics that widen the split between pols and voters. Means pols can campaign in a virtual managed bubble without meaningful give and take with actual voters that might disagree with them. Stage managed politics.
