The materials change is pretty significant.

You've gone from solid planks as the underfloor, cladding, and roof substrate to sheets of glued scrap.

It's not really an exaggeration to say that houses are half-glued together these days.

For every game, Giuliani posted about a thousand cops to the subway station at Yankee Stadium for the end of Yankees' games, as the fans poured out to head home; we had cops in every car. For an 11pm subway ride home, I have never felt so safe in my life. And wifey was preggers. Seems unreal, nowadays.

77 I remember the mixture of GM Old Look (1947) and GM New Look Fishbowl (1963) buses on NYC streets in the early-mid 60s. I lived in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn so we got new buses last. The N train to Coney Island was still using subway cars from 1917. Straw seat covers, porcelain straphangers, open ceiling fans, no A/C, of course.

He said they got off the train in NYC and they just turned them loose. He said that every time the train would stop at a big city there would be tables full of watermelon and sandwiches.

I remember 1966 NYC very well. I was traveling into the city Monday through Friday while attending a television production and studio operation school on Broadway. It was fun and there was so much to see. So many places up and down Broadway to grab a steak dinner for a decent price. Italian restaurants everywhere. Most people didn't need to drive very far in the 50's. Dads worked in factories or offices that were were within 10 miles of home. Only a few moms drove in the 50's. One car in the family, and dad drove that to work. Going downtown to shop meant "catching the bus". I remember those days very clearly. At Christmas time, Santa was in the basement area of Sears and Roebuck where they sold the appliances. That scene in "A Christmas Story" was pretty much on the nose.

Not really. Many cars for the mid 50's would do 75 easily. My 57 Chevy has no issue with it. Back in 1964, I had my dad's 57 up to 110 on a stretch of 287 that was being constructed. Mine now runs radials with a slightly updated suspension.
