Posted by: FenelonSpoke at October 13, 2025 05:21 PM (uA11f) It is something along the lines of "the greater the emotional impact on society, by the greatest spectacle, violent, or transgressive act, will encourage the subjugated section of society to emulate this to rise up and cast aside the repressive elements that bind them, and drive through the revolution. This posits that a) enough of the population care, b) enough of the population can be moved by transgressive acts to emulate them, and iii) the situation is close enough to being on the cusp of revolution that action made will be sufficient to overpower or overawe the power structure, As it is, I think it is just the next move on the "how to pursue a color revolution" in getting sufficient bods on the street that no one wants to hurt to mask the violent and give them an Ocean to Hide in. There is nothing effective about riding a bike naked. It's just acting out in a consequence free environment.
"I want to ride a bike naked, which would get me tazed if I did it outside a Chinese restaurant or a 7-11. But if I have a picket sign proclaiming my commitment to justice for the transgender poets of Lincoln, Nebraska, nobody will dare taze me! If you compare the Bedford, England vs. San Francisco USA movies you note how much busier and prosperous San Francisco was in roughly the same time period. Of course, for San Francisco, that was to put in check by the imminent earthquake and fire. And then they built it all back, without government assistance, just to let it become what it is today. I'm sitting here trying to make sense of the Portland Nude protest against ICE. Is that some untapped valid and effective way to change laws that I wasn't aware of? And, does it, also, work on the corporate level. Such as, if you think you deserve a bigger raise, can you just strip down and levy a better result? I'm thinking it's not going to work well if you are employed by a pin company. You might have to leave your Crocs one to avoid foot injuries. And, does that single piece of outerwear effect the overall result?

172 Speaking of old NYC, one thing I've wondered about is the TV shows of the era have professionals driving into the city from the 'burbs and parking next to their office.
Was that real at the time? Posted by: 18-1 Not in Manhattan, except maybe on the weekend. Posted by: See The New '61 Impala SS! at October 13, 2025 06:00 PM (oftw2) 201
Very cool. LA was as unglamorous then as it is now! You can see how much smog there was in the 50s and 60s.
The latest Beverly Hills Cop movie shows a real shitty LA as the background. While LA has always been kind of seedy, I imagine they've cranked it to 11 in recent years Posted by: 18-1 at October 13, 2025 06:00 PM (sKqQm) 202

Shit man, people couldn't frigging drive in the 50's.
Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at October 13, 2025 05:53 PM Most people didn't need to drive very far in the 50's. Dads worked in factories or offices that were were within 10 miles of home. Only a few moms drove in the 50's. One car in the family, and dad drove that to work. Going downtown to shop meant "catching the bus". I remember those days very clearly. At Christmas time, Santa was in the basement area of Sears and Roebuck where they sold the appliances. That scene in "A Christmas Story" was pretty much on the nose. Posted by: thatcrazyjerseyguy at October 13, 2025 06:00 PM (5xuJ/) 204

Remember the 75 MPH highway system was designed for those 50s era cars.
Amusing that much of the highway system still isn't 75 MPH again even with the amazing improvements to cars since then. Well, when those same roads aren't clogged anyway I guess Posted by: 18-1 at October 13, 2025 05:55 PM (sKqQm) 75 mph in those things? Thats a darwin award waiting to happen. Posted by: Berserker-Dragonheads Division at October 13, 2025 06:01 PM (snZF9) Not really. Many cars for the mid 50's would do 75 easily. My 57 Chevy has no issue with it. Back in 1964, I had my dad's 57 up to 110 on a stretch of 287 that was being constructed. Mine now runs radials with a slightly updated suspension.
