107 Trump Appointees Confirmed En Masse After Republicans Change Rules to End Democrats' "Confirmation Blockade"

FAFO.

The Senate on Tuesday confirmed 107 of President Donald Trump's nominees -- including ambassadors Herschel Walker and Sergio Gor -- as the government shutdown entered its seventh day. The move, approved 51-47, came after Republicans changed Senate rules to bypass what they called a Democrat "confirmation blockade."

Key Details:

The confirmations included over two dozen ambassadorial appointments and more than a dozen U.S. Attorneys.

Among the notable confirmations were Sergio Gor as U.S. Ambassador to India and Special Envoy for South and Central Asian Affairs, and Herschel Walker as U.S. Ambassador to the Bahamas.

Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) celebrated the move on X, writing, "CONFIRMED: 107 Trump nominees en bloc... Senate business continues, even on day seven of the Schumer Shutdown."

Diving Deeper:

The U.S. Senate confirmed more than 100 of President Donald Trump's nominees on Tuesday, marking one of the largest single-day confirmation pushes of his administration -- and it came amid a weeklong government shutdown.

In a 51-47 vote, Senate Republicans approved 107 Trump nominees in one sweeping package after implementing a procedural rules change allowing for "en bloc" votes. The change, used when the majority party controls the chamber, lets the Senate confirm groups of nominees simultaneously instead of one at a time.

...

Republicans framed the mass confirmations as a necessary response to what they described as a months-long blockade by Senate Democrats. "Before the government shutdown, Democrats shut down the Senate floor, freezing the confirmation process," said Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso (R-WY) in a statement. "Today, we broke through that obstruction and delivered results for the American people."

The move followed similar action in September, when the Senate confirmed 48 Trump nominees. Tuesday's confirmations bring the total number of Trump administration appointments approved this fall to more than 150.

Semi-Related: A DOJ attorney and I'm sure a Straight-Arrow Ham-and-Egger is refusing to prosecute Big Tish James, claiming that she sees "no probable cause" for prosecution despite Big Tish signing multiple fraudulent mortgage applications and so far offering no defense or excuse for her actions.

A top Virginia prosecutor told her colleagues she will refuse to file charges against controversial New York Attorney General Letitia James. President Donald Trump has been pushing for James to face accountability for the lawfare she waged against him during the 2024 presidential election.

With no shortage of irony, it turns out evidence exists that James committed the same real estate fraud she alleged Trump engaged in. That is the very definition of hypocritical.

Elizabeth Yusi, who is in charge of major criminal prosecutions in the Norfolk office of the Eastern District of Virginia, told two of her co-workers that she does not see any probable cause that James committed mortgage fraud, two sources told MSNBC. Yusi will present her conclusion to the new interim U.S. attorney, Lindsey Halligan, over the course of the next several weeks.

In a mortgage fraud case, probable cause exists if someone knowingly files repeated false "primary residence" certifications to boost their odds of loan approval, and if lenders rely on those lies to offer better loan terms.

Is there really a lack of evidence against James, or is Yusi trying to protect her? We all know the left protects its own, practically at any cost.

MSNBC reported that Trump appointed Halligan two weeks after announcing he would fire acting U.S. attorney Erik Siebert, who also refused to pursue fraud charges against James, as well as other charges against former FBI Director James Comey. Siebert resigned on Sept. 19 after Trump informed him he'd be replaced.

...

Prosecutors in the Eastern District office expect Halligan to fire Yusi for refusing Trump's request to go after James.

Are there times when majority party doesn't control the chamber? Maybe when RINO's are the majority.
Posted by: t-bird

Dems were slowrolling everything by refusing unanimous consent which the GOP always went along with for most minor nominees. The rule change was needed because the Dems have simply refused to allow any minor nominee to pass without full onerous Senate rules. GOP has threatened before to do that in the minority but almost never has.

Basically you have to have 60 in the Senate to stop most of this petty bullshit.

In Wallace's case, from what I gather, he was just doing that for domestic political consumption. Apparently, he let Kennedy know he wasn't really going to go all the way and make them actually arrest him or use force. Apparently, he had ordered the KKK and similar to stand down, and not start any shit, which they easily would've done.

So, Wallace was just "saving face", going all the way to make Kennedy force him to back down, but wasn't going to actually trigger violence.

The problem for them is Trump has about 15 steps he can take in addition to locking up the governor or the mayor. He already has approval to bring in the US Army and Guard units - the bar on the local Guard probably will soon be discarded as nonsense.

There might be a way to detach local law enforcement to be put under Fed control after which what the Mayor says means nothing. The head of Chicago PD already seems pissed about the stand down order.

I got interested in that. There's no easy way 10th Amendment for POTUS to "federalize" state/local LEO. He has to use NG (and regular armed forces if IA is invoked).

He can declare martial law under the IA and order local LEO to stand down, and hell, open fire on them if they refuse, but he can't commandeer them.

Exactly. If someone feels comfortable as a DA or a high position in the Fed, knowing they misrepresented themselves on legal documents associated with both those positions, then it's a common practice that has been purposefully overlooked and it was assumed that such non-oversight would continue. Otherwise, upon they would never risk it.

There has to be a significant number of other people doing this for them to not correct the purposeful act upon securing a high profile position or even while in that position.

Back in the 20's and 30's it was considered good luck for a boy to have a five syllable name. It was one of those things cycled around in women's magazines. It might be older than that, but I think it was mostly an American thing.

Of course that meant if your family name was "Garibaldi" or the like, you might as well break they boy's mirror and leave a crow in his bassinet 'cause he was clearly out of luck.

Posted by: Kindltot at October 08, 2025 04:09 PM (rbvCR)

276 I remember when Eric Garner died I argued the NYS Republicans should have had a proposal to end prosecution for tax evasion on cigarettes ready to go as soon as the left started using him as a martyr. That's why the cops arrested him. Either it was a good arrest and its too bad how it ended up and its a bad law and he should not have been arrested for it.

But NYS Republicans are useless...
Posted by: 18-1 at October 08, 2025 03:44 PM (sKqQm)

The left didn't try to make a martyr because he wasn't an absolute evil criminal. Sure, he was hustling loosies but his death was tragic. He wasn't trying to pass counterfeit bills or deal drugs or hold a pistol at a pregnant woman's belly, or try to wrest a pistol from a cop. He wasn't a scummy dirtbag like Michael Brown, or Trayvon Martin or George Floyd. Eric was just a fat slob trying to hustle up a couple of bucks.

But the left doesn't want to force society to agree with them about actual justice. They want to warp the concept of justice to break it down, to get as many as they can to say bad is good wrong is right, and at the end of it all justice is not about truth, but about power.

304 Back in the 20's and 30's it was considered good luck for a boy to have a five syllable name. It was one of those things cycled around in women's magazines. It might be older than that, but I think it was mostly an American thing.

Of course that meant if your family name was "Garibaldi" or the like, you might as well break they boy's mirror and leave a crow in his bassinet 'cause he was clearly out of luck.

305 Supposedly, there is still a dialect of Russian spoken in Ninilchik (much influenced by English, of course). It was set up as a retirement spot for retired employees of the Russia-America Company.
Posted by: Bulg at October 08, 2025 04:23 PM (77rzZ)

More Russian is spoken in Nikolaevsk. The Old Russian Orthodox went there before the Russian Revolution because they hated what had been done to the Church by the Tsar. They remain rather isolated on purpose, but you see them in town in Homer sometimes. Some Natives on the Aleutians still speak a pidgin version of Old Russian. But schools are in English, so they know more than one language, sometimes three or four.

310 >>> Prosecutors in the Eastern District office expect Halligan to fire Yusi for refusing Trump's request to go after James.

I don't know how often people are prosecuted for what James 'allegedly' did. But if I were a prosecutor and saw viry high profile clearly political prosection done with novel/creative charges I'd hammer the one that started the shit.... Like running for office specifically on politically prosecuting someone.

And I doubt Trump has asked for the firing or it would have been done already...

311 When I was a kid, the QB for UW in Seattle was named Sonny Sixkiller. We listened to all the games on the radio, and it was a little weird hearing what Sixkiller just did to the defense. But he came by the name honestly. He was Indian, feather not dot.

I LOVED THIS! My late brother (in MS, where the water makes people crazy my husband has decided), kept a small notebook of similar names. He and Dave Barry used to correspond is how insane my brother was.

We all have PhD's in insanity. Our free wheeling farm childhood plus feral cousins on weekends made us this way.

My guy did and quite a few wise congress critters did like Tip O'Neill, Bob Michels, B1 Bob Dornan, etc. Then you have the few assholes like Wayne Hays. I think Senators were overrepresented as assholes as you had people like Biden, Packwood, and others.

In part, back in that era, many of the staffers were expected to take unpaid leave so as to work as campaign staff.

Posted by: Its Go Time Donald at October 08, 2025 04:15 PM (5Yz+T)

Usually I imagine its that way. In Grad school I got a commercial license to help drive an experiment to Berkely from Chicago and back in a truck. On the way back the interstate was blocked past Salt Lake for a day or so and after it was opened every trunk in the world was running bumper to bumper coming down from Wyoming to Nebraska to flat ground. The Nebraska plows had cleaned overpasses onto the road and you had to crash thru them bumper to bumper at 40-55 mph. We lost a tire and had to just run on the one back tire without stopping.
