Qualcomm has bought hobby electronics board maker Arduino for an undisclosed sum. (Ars Technica)

The first announcement from the combined company is the Arduino Uno Q, a $44 development board featuring both a Qualcomm Dragonwing CPU running Linux and an STM32U585 microcontroller for real-time control tasks. (Arduino)

The Dragonwing is a traditional not-very-powerful Arm processor with four 2GHz A53 cores.

The STM32U585 is a microcontroller with an Arm M33 running at 160MHz, 2MB of embedded flash storage, and 786kB of RAM. (No, that's not a typo.)

The board includes 2GB of RAM and 16GB of eMMC flash storage for the Dragonwing, as well as WiFi 5 and a whole slew of low-level I/O functions.

Minisforum also has a NAS. (Serve the Home)

It features 5Gb and 10Gb network ports, five 3.5" drive bays, three M.2 slots (convertible to one M.2 slot and two U.2 bays), RAM expandable up to 128GB, and a Ryzen 370 CPU.

That's a 28W part with 12 Zen 5 cores and 16 graphics cores, and it's AMD's current fastest mainstream APU, six times as fast as the N150 found in certain low-end NASes we just bought.

On the other hand, it costs $1019 without any memory or drives, vs. a current price of $204 for the Beelink Me Mini, so you definitely pay for what you get.
The 16GB RAM model of the Beelink Me Mini is now available for $284 with a 1TB Crucial SSD bundled in. (Beelink)

Well, it's available for pre-order, but so was the model I have and it was on my doorstep in rural Australia in about five days.

26 Evening and morning on this Woden's Day, the second one in October! I'm up early, though I can't blame the cats for this one. Weird dream I had, about being on foot and lost in a city that in the dream seemed to be Denver, but which had highway numbers and a major street name that didn't exist when I lived there.

This was followed by something about being stuck in a long line at a place that seemed to be an airport. Then the line mostly evaporated, leaving me to sit at what appeared to be a McDonald's -- but one where you could order at your seat. I ordered a cheeseburger and fries, but never got the fries, and nobody paid the least attention to my complaints. (Sorta like real life, that last.)

Residents pay $1500/month, but many have not had water or working A/C for months, including no heat during the snowfall in January. The office has been closed for three months, with only a notice on the door from the city about a violation having to do with the stagnant water in the pool.

$1500???? That's at least three times what a unit there would be worth in a sane world, even if everything worked perfectly. It's on the north side of the Interstate, near the shopping/bar area that was once called Fat City -- the hot young singles area in the 1970s.

The company has been on 8 day holiday and has not resolved problems. Their suggestions to do this or that are useless. Now they question whether I even bought unit from them. I did. Dunno. Interestingly, and somewhat amusingly, "quote investigator" attributes it to Gates based on a PC World article although they admit that he has always denied saying it. I recall 20 years ago, or so, you could find the attribution for the IBM CEO but that appears to have been scrubbed for some reason.
