Something ELSE Plant Based??

Company Develops Plant-Based Caviar Indistinguishable from the Real Thing

doof-fake-caviar.jpg

Zeroe Caviar is a plant-based fish egg alternative made from seaweed whose creators say tastes just like the real thing.

Plant-based food alternatives have been getting increasingly popular over the last few years, with burgers and steaks among the most targeted categories, but few would have imagined we would one day get a vegan caviar. Cleverly named ‘Zeroe Caviar,’ the treat is made using seaweed grown organically off the coast of France, combined with other natural ingredients like cayenne, black pepper, turmeric, laurel, leek, dill and tarragon. It has already been adopted by Michelin-star restaurants and chefs, and according to most reviews so far, it tastes remarkably like real fish roe.

“With its delicate textures and exquisite flavors, our caviar will take your taste buds on an unforgettable journey,” the Zeroe Caviar website states. “Made with a deep commitment to marine conservation, our guilt-free caviar lets you savor each bite with a clear conscience. Our caviar is entirely plant-based, meaning no fish or animal products are used in its production.”

Hard NO from me on this. What say you?

Hard NO on this one, too!

Feel Good Story

Anonymous Donor Pays Off All School Lunch Debt In Taylor, Texas

Families in Taylor, Texas, just got a wonderful surprise — an anonymous donor has paid off all outstanding school lunch debt for students in the Taylor Independent School District.

District officials said they won’t be revealing how much debt was cleared or how many students were affected, but the donor asked to remain anonymous.

TISD also took the opportunity to remind families that every child is served a meal, no matter their balance or meal status.

"Every child is served regardless of their balance or meal status."

Hundreds of community members flooded the district’s post with messages of gratitude for the anonymous donor’s generosity.

Cool story. Maybe the anonymous donor would like to extend the generosity to an upcoming assembly of Hordelings in east Texas??

21 My willowed thoughts on one question Vivek was asked at this TPUSA event:

A kid is asking about his Hindu religion as polytheistic and how that squares with Charlie being a monotheistic Christian. And TPUSA as a Christian organization.

Vivek describes his Hindu faith as "ethical monotheistic," not polytheistic. But that the trinity isn't polytheistic either, and there's nuance with his religion the kid is missing. And says he is not running for Ohio pastor, he's running for governor.

This was actually a really good back and forth dialogue. The kid didn't do his homework, and he's nervous, but Vivek is being really respectful. Worth seeing.

Vivek is doing a really good job of capturing the spirit of what Charlie wanted these to be! He's doing a great job.

He said second to his faith and family, he has a third thing that's important. He had the kid come up and gave him a pocket constitution and read the part of no religious litmus tests. And said he wished they could talk more about this over dinner.

That's so utterly sweet.

I have a leftist friend that had a lot of childhood trauma. She said she didn't want kids, because if she gave them a better, non traumatic childhood, a healthier childhood, part of her would resent the kid for not having generational trauma.

That was so shocking to me, and incredibly dark. You'll be happy to know I think she will always be childless. You have to heal yourself from that toxicity before you are anywhere near raising an impressionable kid.

56 Caviar is just sturgeon fish roe. Since sturgeon are long-lived, it takes time and care to raise sturgeon to where you want to harvest the roe, so it costs more than other fish roe, and people cure it and gently age it with salt, but it’s just fish eggs!

Not sure about the tour. I understand why they are doing it. 50 years as a band is quite the achievement. Neil Peart's family have given their seal of approval, which is good. The new drummer played in Jeff Beck's band, so she has some serious drummer chops. I've heard that Jeff Beck was difficult to work with so if he approved of her, she's probably pretty good. Don't know anything else about her except hearing she's a prodigy. Rush seems impressed with her so we'll see, I guess.

162 Maybe other midwestern states are similar, but the hamburger in Iowa even from places like Hy-Vee is waaay better than most states I’ve visited. Good hamburger has a coarse grind, for starters. When I see that fine stringy stuff, it ain’t gonna be right. Also the way it renders out the fat, you can just tell when it’s cooking. When the steaks get past their “best buy” or whatever, it gets ground into hamburger. Absolutely it makes better burger. Way better. Beefy and flavorful, not tough and flavorless.

Omaha steaks, they sell great stuff. Though the burger stuff never impressed much, because the quality of the burger I’m used to. Bacon is kind of the same. We ordered a bunch of specialty apple wood smoked stuff from somebody online, but it wasn’t worth the cost. It was good, but not that good. Grocery store Bacon is variable for sure, but again you can tell by the way it cooks up whether it is any good or not.

187 I like caviar, but do not choose to spend much money on it. So I have become something of an expert on what I call "Food Stamp Caviar".

The best is from Lidl, about $7, when they have it.

Publix sells caviar, overpriced at $24 and not very good

Whole Foods has a mix. The Lake Whitefish caviar tastes like nothing, or maybe water. Not worth the $6 or any portion thereof. The Wild Caught Keta Salmon caviar is not bad at $12, but very salty.

Aguston sells decent black or red lumpfish caviar online for $40-50 for a large jar.

How? Why is ANYONE suffering? Because National Parks visitor centers are closed?

That would cause all the Chi Nah visitors to suffer, but Americans? Nah.

379 As most of you know, about a month ago I was in the hospital for the better part of a week due to what turned out to be a bad stomach virus. While in the hospital, an abdominal CT Scan was performed to rule out anything more serious. We were somewhat bemused when no mention was made of the tumors in my liver, but we figured they weren't looking for that.

When I saw the oncologist 2 weeks ago, he was somewhat confused as well, so he asked for more information from the hospital's radiology department.

We saw the oncologist again today (scheduled appointment), and he showed us the images that he was sent. There is lots of calcification (indicating tumor cell death) where the smaller tumors had been, but he didn't see any sign of the small tumors anywhere. The area where the largest (8 cm) tumor was now shows lots of calcification and a significant amount of tumor shrinkage.

The largest tumor has now shrunk to 3.9 cm in diameter. The amazing thing about that is that while a tumor of 8 cm has an approximate volume of 268 cubic centimeters, a tumor of 3.9 cm only has an approximate volume of 31 cubic centimeters, A shrinkage of almost 90%!

385 Making slow but steady progress divorcing from Google. The most time-consuming chore is changing username and email address and sometimes phone number using the available website account management webware. Most of them can't handle it without a hassle, and every website's hassle is different from every other's.

I've learned that almost NONE of the major companies I might do business with accept direct phone calls or emails to customer service anymore. They all direct you to a puny FAQ, which never has the answers to the questions you have. The instant online chats with real humans are mostly gone now.

I've found that often, the HQ website's account data does not match the credential data in the company's brick and mortar stores. I successfully complete a 2FA session at the HQ website using my cell phone, then get to the IRL store, and get a phone number challenge that is different than the one the 2FA used, and is a number I long ago abandoned.

You can still talk to humans with phone calls to credit card companies, but only with a 45 minute wait on hold. It's going to take a long time to finish doing this with 350+ online accounts

404 I wrote an 8000 word piece with The Atlantic in mind. I gave it to an author I know who has made money selling articles to various magazines, and HE LIKED IT and told me to go for it! I used to read The Atlantic years ago for some of their long-form nonfiction, and this one fits like a glove.

I remember getting on a plane trip one time and taking the latest Atlantic with me. They had a long-form nonfiction piece about fucking concrete that blew me away! Kept me absorbed through most of the trip. Learned a lot. Having this guy tell me I had a shot made my day. He said try New Yorker too.

My only Android device is the Titan Pocket phone. I used an online service to root it, because I was unable to root it myself. Once rooted, I was able to use a little program downloaded from somewhere to open the phone on the PC like it was removable media. And I could read the files in the OS. I removed about a half-dozen Google .asf files, the ones that Google apps needed to communicate with the mothership. Still need to remove more, but Google is esentially defanged on the phone. Of course, I cannot load any apps, but I never used apps, anyway. You don't miss what you never had.

You might want to look at Fairphone, and Murena phones. Expensive, though, but natively de-googled.

I'm up way too late, but has to comment on this after thinking about it. I'd try the plant based caviar. It's not like fake meat, where it has to look just like it. It's not like fake eggs, where you have to have a substantial amount of it per serving, and there's a big chance to mess it up. Caviar eggs are small and self contained flavor capsules, and the plant stuff should fit in balls small enough to get the flavor essence that mimics the real thing.

Unless you need Windows to run some proprietary software, you could update the laptop to run Linux Mint 22. It runs fine on my old Toshiba Satellite, that shipped with Win 7. Installing programs on Mint is easy. Mostly you just copy and paste a few lines of code into Terminal, which is the command-line interface for Linux.

Something like: sudo apt get Brave Browser (enter). You will be prompted for your system password, and then the whole process just happens like magic.

Right. Pretty much no one actually listens to Yoko, but Wikipedia says Seasons in the Sun hit #1 in multiple countries, and the single went gold.

Perhaps the "the worst song that people voluntarily listened to in large numbers"?

Other candidates: "Yummy Yummy Yummy" and "Chewy Chewy", both by "Ohio Express" (not even a real band, as I recall).

Back in the LP days, you could always differentiate the John Lennon and Yoko Ono tracks on someone's "Double Fantasy" album, because the Yoko tracks would be visibly pristine.

I still have that HD, and can power down, switch cables, and boot it up, but I am not sure I can find who I dealt with to root it. I just searched "get phone rooted online", and got a few hits. Read several websites, decided one sounded legitimate, and got in touch. It was a woman in Croatia, and she spent nearly an hour getting it done (phone was linked into PC). She earned her fifty bucks. Phone now displays an open padlock icon. Evidently, the Titan phones are hard to root. many more common phones, you can root yourself.

475 467 Save your Win 10 installed SSD, and spend $30 on a new SSD for the LM install. Win 10 is worth $$$ to replace, and who knows, you might need it someday.

478 Truth is, Mr Rogers wouldn't be caught dead in my neighborhood, (even if he was alive,) because he'd be afraid of getting dead right quick with all the gangland shootings here. This is one of the most violent zipcodes in the nation. We were #1 for a while.

480 Many people do not know that some parts of the okra plant are not only edible, but delicious.

481 Not many know this, but Euell Gibbons was actually edible and nutritious

482 Man is that Katie Porter a hot piece of ass or what? Banging her must be like bestiality but without triggering the Old Testament death penalty. I mean, you'd still want the death penalty and all but just wouldn't be eligible. A life sentence of knowing you put it in that golem.

483 I always put in new furnace filters the day before the maintainers arrive. And every year they tell me "You should change your filters more often." Uh-huh.

485 gp, thanks! And sorry to hear about your neighborhood.

I only wish I could edit my monologue up there. Mister Rogers forgot a few things, including admonishing the kids to be extra-careful with an open flame.

486 Took possession of my place in the country in the winter. Two weeks later they well motor conked. Typical, it was miserably cold, windy and raining. Called every well digger in the county and they all had an excuse.

Digging through the phone books called one two counties away.
Said he'd be there in 45 minutes. He was.Two hours and 130 feet later I had water. Twelve years later, tidying up for the sale, called the same digger. He charged me mileage this time.
Ha! It was good to see him. Man did he get old.

My cousin lives out in the sticks. He has a DUI on his record, I don't. He insures TWO vehicles for one third the price I pay to insure ONE 2012 Hyundai, liability only, here in Shitsburg. Guess why.

Hi there sailor.

"The Amazon molly has mastered "male manipulation," using male fish from other species to trigger reproduction without contributing their genes, thus ensuring the all-female lineage continues. "
