Now it's AMD's turn. (Serve the Home)

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about Nvidia's plan to invest $100 billion in OpenAI in return for OpenAI spending $100 billion on Nvidia hardware. Or some random amount - the scale is so absurd they're talking about graphics cards in gigawatts. OpenAI is buying 10 gigawatts of graphics cards.

Now AMD is sort of doing the same. OpenAI is planning to buy 6GW of AMD Instinct cards and in return AMD has issued OpenAI a warrant for up to 160 million shares of its common stock, worth about $32 billion at current prices though since some of the shares wouldn't vest until the share price reaches $600 (from $200 today) it's potentially $100 billion again if the bubble don't burst.

Google places all sorts of restrictions on this (as does Apple).

You can't offer an alternate payment method. You can't talk about an alternate payment method. If you do have an alternate payment method, they'll charge you all the fees anyway even though they're not providing the service.

The court ruling blows away all of that.

I'm deducing that "this" [crapola] is the OPPOSITE of the following non-crapola new legal requirements:

- Open up the Google Play Store to rival app stores and provide them with its full catalogs of apps and games
- Allow developers to use the in-app payment system of their choice
- Allow developers to communicate alternative stores and payment systems
- Stop punishing those developers who choose to distribute their apps and games in other Android-based app stores
- Stop punishing companies that wish to create an app store for Android
- Halt bundling requirements for hardware makers that wish to install other app stores on their Android devices

Apple has always been more restrictive on what is allowed on the App Store than Google was with Play. Apple has submission guidelines and a team that checks the app out for malicious code. I believe Google started doing that more years ago as a result of some bad apps that got through.

Most people will still get their apps from the big two, but for more adventurous users there will be options now. The biggest risk is still side loading apps downloaded from the web.

I’m guessing you’ll start seeing competing stores downloaded as apps on your phone, and it’s up to the individual whether they want to go to the Steam App Store, or Epic Games Store, Amazon App Store, etc.

You’ll probably hear about some janky alternative app stores eventually, and which ones to avoid, as they are infiltrated by hackers and criminals.

It all depends on your own personal paranoia level.
But if you’re not going out of your way to download applications off of sketchy sites I wouldn’t worry about it.

Best security on a PC is Windows Defender for viruses, and a VPN if you’re worried about being spied on.

Mobile devices are usually more secure already unless you make them insecure yourself to do something Apple and Google haven’t allowed.

90 MP4, I've been part of the SocSec brigade for six months. (I was going to write "SS brigade," but thought better of it.) It takes a little time to decompress. For a while there I was still waking up at the same time every morning as I had for work. Now I've gotten myself to five or five-thirty am so I can work out and/or still have the early morning, the day's best time, to myself.

My only advice is to make sure you have your finances straight *before* you retire, or you will spend the first month wrangling with all that. I'd been on SS and Medicare for some time, so that was set. But I had some other resources to whip into line. All done.

Side benefit, if you want: afternoon naps!

Things seem to have calmed down in LA after Trump sent in the troops. NYC hasn’t blown up with riots. Boston has had a few incidents.

The biggest problem elsewhere has been in Texas in a few cities by nutbag anarchists.

They want to get the party started like it’s Floyd 2020 all over again before the midterms next year.

I’d say they’re trying to build up to that scenario, by the looks of it. So next summer might be the most dangerous since 2020 if they can find a spark to ignite it all.

Almost certainly. The area has single-family homes, and doesn't look too bad when you drive the streets (some of which, not all, are properly paved). It's not a housing project or the kind of modern housing that replaced those in several areas around here. But nowadays, even that is no guarantee of a decent neighborhood.

A distro is like a version of Linux. NixOS, Mint, Fedora... all Linux, all slightly different.

The main issue with Linux is that most of the people involved go off on some purity quest and decide to create yet another distro which'll be used by 4 people and useful to 0.
