OK, another dachshund story just for fun.
I'm walking my first Greyhound and we're going past a guy's house. Dachshund is outside with no leash and no fence. Charges us head on. I put myself in between me and my dog but the Dachshund disregards that and tries attacking Nikko. He's biting at her ankles and you see the expression on her face of "Hey! Stop that! Cut it out!" And then I saw the expression "I am fucking done!" A moment later, she grabbed the dog in her jaws, began to squeeze and was lifting him off the ground. Dachshund had this expression that said "I'm...not as big as I thought." I quietly told my girl "Put him down gently. I know you're mad but daddy doesn't want to pay for a dead dog." No problems afterward. Posted by: NR Pax at October 13, 2025 01:47 PM (7xrfc) 95

Dogs are often consummate con artists, much more intelligent than they let on. They have this whole “well what did you expect, I’m just a Dog!” thing to fall back on whenever expectations are not met. N.b. they can hear a cheese wrapper at 100 meters during a thunderstorm, yet other times are quite deaf to being called, even in the same room.

Dachsunds. I love 'em. But I had one Dachsund grievously wound me. Broke my tailbone, and grievously broke my left thumb - it will never be the same again. It was my ex's Dachsund, and we were good friends. I had been doing some renovation in her basement, and had to shut off the power and work in the dark with a shop light, but it didn't reach the steps. This dog had somehow managed to get in the basement, and was laying in wait on the stairs for some petting. I opened the door, and made it halfway up before he sprang, tripping me and sending me right back down, twisting backwards onto my ass, and catching my fall on the edge of a stair tread with the aforementioned thumb. Every time I have to ice the damn thumb, I think of him. And not in a bad way. That's how sweet those dogs are. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at October 13, 2025 01:55 PM (BI5O2) 116

Posted by: LizLem One of our Catahoula pups in the past was enjoying being out with my mother in law in the garden and of course decided to start digging and sticking her nose in the soft dirt for a good whiff. MIL was yelling at our pup for doing so until our pup sighted a mangy coyote circling around the back of my MIL. Dog alerted and went to battle stations immediately even as a pup to guard the woman yelling at her. Coyote slinked away. From that point, nothing our dog did, including eating an entire cooked duck carcass in about ten unsupervised minutes (had been picked first for duck dressing) on a holiday requiring a vet consult bothered my MIL about that Catahoula. Tear jerking moment when MIL was on her deathbed. We got to take our Catahoula to say goodbye and she licked my MIL's hand. Mother in law then told us she loved us all and passed shortly thereafter. 141 I think IIRC chocolate can be toxic for some dogs, but not others. At some point, I think every dog I've owned has managed to steal some chocolate, and I freak out, and then they're ok.
Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at October 13, 2025 02:01 PM (BI5O2) According to a number of veterinary sites it depends on the weight of the dog, the type of chocolate and the amount consumed. Dark chocolate is more toxic because it has more actual chocolate in it containing theobromines or some such. White chocolate is basically non-toxic because it isn't chocolate, just sweetened cocoa butter. Then there's everything inbetween. So it's not like it's an automatic death sentence but chocolate should be kept away from your dogs. Posted by: Besides, more for us at October 13, 2025 02:06 PM (TbWk/) 174

OTOH, Hernán Cortés.
Of course, the claim of a "complex relationship" as La Malinche, an Indigenous woman and his interpreter, gave birth to a mestizo (mixed-race) son, often viewed symbolically as the origin of the modern Mexican people. This complex origin prevents a simple hero/villain narrative of Cortes as it forces an acknowledgement of both Indigenous and Spanish heritage. Call largely BS. Spain was too far away & too tough to extort. Posted by: L - No nic, another fine day at October 13, 2025 02:20 PM (NFX2v) 209
My son's dog, a Lab named Ace, several years ago went with him to a house my son had bought and was fixing up to rent. The dog had never been there before. It was during the summer and my son and his friend were putting up siding in 95 degree heat. At one point my son realized he hadn't seen Ace for about an hour. As he went looking for him the dog bounds up the street back to the house. He was soaking wet. Apparently he needed to refresh himself by swimming in the river. My son had never showed him the river, but somehow the dog had found it. Plus, he was able to find his way back to a place where he had never been to before.

Today we celebrate Native American Day
For authenticity's sake we will be riding into an adjacent neighborhood, murdering the men, raping and murdering the women, raping and abducting the teenage girls, and abducting the young boys and forcing them to join our raiding parties. We'll boil up and eat a couple of the conquered for good measure. Posted by: Very verisimilitudinous baby at October 13, 2025 02:29 PM (TbWk/) 232

In Portland nude cyclists have joined in the anti-ICE protests.
As you might expect, you really don't want to see the photos. They definitely aren't doing the illegals any favors with this stunt. Indigenous Peoples Day is such a stupid term anyway, as either "Buck" or "Clay" just said on their show. All tribes were exactly the same in spreading light and love to all other tribes? BS It's a swipe at Europeans who brought over their religion and mores and cultures here. European=evil

Is the left going to cancel him or what?
No. Twitch relies on him because he's their big ratings draw, without him its a few thots pretending to play video games. He's the advertising earner. They didn't dump him when in response to Charlie Kirk's assassination he called for explicit, very detailed, and horrific murder and violence to people on the right. He went on a rant for several minutes describing intestines coiling on the ground and worse. Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at October 13, 2025 02:40 PM (dfIr7) 247
"Influencer bullshit guides say having a dog or cat around in frame increases viewer engagement aka money. That is why some like Piker do it."
Twitter is a cesspool of these propagandists. There's a guy on every corner with a megaphone just spreading outright lies, trying to incite violence toward Trump, ICE, us. Reporting doesn't do hack. They're obviously astroturfed, usual posing as a hot woman which, sorry, but has to be fake because hot girls on the net are into OnlyFans, not influencer politics. Has to be some troglodyte living in it's mother's basement. They never engage in comments, just spew spew spew toxic speech. Who the hell is paying for these people? No USAID anymore. China? Soros? I've been saying this for a decade - Soros is what cruise missiles were made for. There should be consequences for meddling with America. Posted by: Fen at October 13, 2025 02:43 PM (ciYHQ) 248

Trump is making systemic changes to unfair political advantages (illegal immigration, USAID funding, mail in ballots, Antifa) that the GOP simply tolerated.
They need to get out of the way. I wish MAGA was capable of replacing them but the Left has an accidental advantage - as they become more radical, the defectors join the Right out of necessity but pull the Right leftward. Posted by: Fen at October 13, 2025 02:59 PM (ciYHQ) 255
