Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2026

Ah, Paris Fashion Week— that magical time of year when the City of Light turns into a runway for the rich, the fabulous, and the occasionally fabulous-in-a-garbage-bag kind of way. We're talking Spring/Summer 2026, folks, where the shows ran from September 29 to October 7, and left us wondering: Is that high fashion or a cry for help? From ballerina pink to celebrity cameos, this season was less "ooh la la" and more "ooh la…what in the world?” Let’s dive right on in!

This season's big debuts had everyone buzzing—or was that just the sound of sequins clashing?

Celine's Michael Rider Takes the Wheel: New creative director Michael Rider rolled up with his first full ready-to-wear collection, turning heads with sleek, '80s-inspired vibes. But the real star? BTS's V (aka Taehyung), the house's ambassador, who showed up looking like a walking K-drama heartthrob. One viral clip has him munching a pastry post-show, proving even icons need snacks. If that's not relatable fashion week energy, what is?

IMG_5261r.jpg

Saint Laurent's Eiffel Tower Extravaganza: Anthony Vaccarello set up shop under the twinkling Eiffel Tower for a show that was pure cinematic glam. Think 80’s silhouettes, big shoulder pads and all. Their collective look spelled out the defining trend of the night: big top, tight skirt.

IMG_5262r.jpg

IMG_5270r.jpg

Dior's Standing Ovation Shock: Jonathan Anderson's debut had the crowd on their feet. He swept away the archives for bold, noisy looks inspired by past Dior rebels like Yves Saint Laurent and John Galliano. Sharp-shouldered jackets met fluid skirts in a "horror-to-love" mashup that had everyone gasping. Pro tip: Pair it with the new Cigale bag—it's archival chic.

Trends That Tickled Our Fancy: Pink, Provocative, and Pure Absurdity

This season, Paris whispered (okay, screamed) a few key vibes. I have filtered the fun below:

Trend-
Ballerina Pink

Why It’s a Vibe-
Soft, feminine, and somehow calming amid the couture carnage—like a hug from a tutu-wearing unicorn. Louis Vuitton nailed it with tones that made everything feel less "end of the world

Where to Spot It (without breaking the bank)-
Thrift a pink slip dress and call it “quiet luxury.”

-----

Trend-
Sheer Shenanigans and Revealing Vibes

Why It’s a Vibe-
Skirts like glitter filled sacks, cutouts that say “surprise!”, and outfits so transparent you’ll need a permission slip. Schiaparelli’s knots had us squinting: Is that fabric or…

Where to Spot It (without breaking the bank)-
Layer with confidence (or a trench coat). Fashion's basically saying “show us your soul, darling.”

-----

Trend-
Skinny belts

Why It’s a Vibe-
Because nothing says "summer 2026" like cinching your waist into oblivion.

Where to Spot It (without breaking the bank)-
DIY with a shoelace. Who needs haute couture when you’ve got hardware store hacks?

-----

Louis Vuitton

The Afterparty Afterthoughts: What Did We Learn?

Paris Fashion Week SS26 reminded us that fashion is about the plot twists. This week was a whirlwind of whimsy, weirdness, and "why not?" energy. Next summer, we'll all be in sheer skirts and pink hues, unruly, unapologetic. This is 100% the kind of chaos I would wear to brunch

Thanks, Piper - another paltry amount of elbows, though.

DJ Doof - This Date In Music History Edition
(from thisdayinmusic.com)

doof-elton-gybr.jpg

On October 5, 1973, Elton John released his seventh studio album, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. It became John’s best-selling studio album and features some of his best-loved songs, including “Candle in the Wind,” “Bennie and the Jets,” and the title track. Ranked as one of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time by Rolling Stone, the record was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2003.

-----

Born on this date in 1952: German musician, composer and record producer Harold Faltemeyer. He is best known for composing 'Axel F' the theme tune for the feature film Beverly Hills Cop, which became an influential synth-pop hit in the 1980s. He also composed the 'Top Gun Anthem' for the feature film Top Gun.

Great stuff - but I'm partial to this greatness!

Also born on this date:
1943: Steve Miller
1947: Brian Johnson (AC/DC)
1951: Bob Geldof (The Boomtown Rats)
1961: Pete De Freitas (Echo & the Bunnymen)
1967: Butch Vig (Producer, Drummer from Garbage)

38 Hey, Piper. I was in Darwin, Australia c.1982 at a "shopping mall" that had about 6 stores, but covered and relatively cool. I saw a young lady wearing a dress very similar to the black open lace above, but much shorter. She was attractive and, much to my American surprise, was wearing absolutely nothing under the dress! Yowza! Made the otherwise dreary trip worthwhile!

You're supposed to look at the clothing, not the faces. If a beautiful woman smiles at you, you look at her face.

Print ads can have smiley models, since you have all the time you need to look at a picture. Runway models scowl because they only get a few seconds of your attention.

Whenever I see "RBF" referenced around here, my first thought is this...

A radial basis function (RBF) is a type of mathematical function whose value depends only on the distance from a fixed point, often used in machine learning for tasks like function approximation and classification. RBFs are commonly applied in algorithms such as support vector machines and neural networks to help model complex relationships in data.

...and then I remember that we don't do math here.

Schiaparelli was the one who first saw "canals" on Mars during his many observations of the planet. He called them "channels", actually, "canali" in Italian. That got mistranslated as "canals", leading to the furor.

177 The couture shown here strikes me as angry women wearing ugly clothes. The only time I've seen couture in person, I was wandering around Venice in 1989. There was a smallish dress shop with 2 or 3 gorgeous dresses in the window. I mean those dresses were beautiful. I looked up at the sign, and it was Valentino. I just don't see the same quality with the stuff shown here.

No, you had Kendall Jenner walking, Hailey Bieber walking, etc. I think models for awhile have been androgynous- I mean they are thin and shaped with minimal curves because that shape makes the clothes hang best. But the makeup is purposeful in terms of angles, etc. There are trans models, but there is always big trumpets about it, so you know.

I told him about Einstein and he said when I win the Nobel prize for physics I can wear white whatever I want. So I ordered tee shirts in every color. That is my nod to fashion. I'm old enough not to care about everyone else.

Did you get the dead Dodge revived?

I was checking the state of the antifreeze in my silver '99 Suburban, and it sprang a big coolant leak. I thought it might have been a loose clamp on the lower hose at the radiator, but that does not seem to be the case. Might be the radiator itself. I parked it again. What's leaking out is strong enough coolant that what's left of it won't freeze.

281 Piper...the pink/white check ragged hemmed wool suit looked like a success from a freshman HS home ec course. Wth with most fashion, coming from someone who does dress with class & pearls (a closet full of suits from work as who knows? I might wear them again). My winter dress look is a sweater with a pleated skirt. I have a lot of them, both sweaters & pleated deals. Plus a few wool pencil midi skirts. Boots, tights. Done. Leggings & sweaters at home.

In college I was boho tops with jeans. Sweaters with jeans in winter. Hiking boots & ski jackets & a leather trench coat. Get out of my way, as I have always dressed for me and no one else.

The strange bedsheet thing Markle just wore cracked me up. So odd to begin with and is morphing quickly into Wallis with her weird prince of pube hair husband.

Totally exhausted after distant family wacko and one of our sons and DIL's visit. A family dinner with some imported covid thrown in from another son's travels to Canada. So far this covid means a runny nose and headache. He only tested due to the newborn baby, as my theory is that ALL colds probably now test positive.

Hope to wake to a boost of energy for our fall garden clean up.

343 Cicero any lingering surface effect evidence of that tropical storm thinggy? Saw some video from The Wedge, was pretty impressive. Though I recall much more dramatic wave heights in the past - like when the body surfer went *over* the jetty there.

Think water's still decently warm, so with this weather (assuming no "dangerous" surf), perfect time to get wet.

So I got all white tee shirts and jeans in a stack in my closet. My husband finally asked me not to wear them anymore. I told him about Einstein and he said when I win the Nobel prize for physics I can wear white whatever I want. So I ordered tee shirts in every color. That is my nod to fashion. No city around here. Although, my inlaws like to go to places to eat way the hell out of my area because they're pains in the ass. If you're not sitting somewhere for 3 frigging hours having dinner well then you're just cheating yourself, and THOSE places would tut tut my usual attire. One night I got pissed when I found out we had to go to someplace way up in NE jersey to some place where you can see NYC from the windows. I looked through my collection of mildly offensive gig shirts that asshole metal guitar players might be known to wear, and I found the one that says I FUCK ON FIRST DATE and put that on. Didn't go over good, I was forced to change it before I left the house. I got the point across though. lol
