6 I have had a setback with Mr Trouble. I ordered a washer and dryer. They delivered and installed on Wednesday. I was in the back yard and just came inside with Jake and Troubles. The delivery guys were at the front door and Troubles was trapped inside for the install. He hid out in the bedroom by the laundry area, which was a total mess as I moved the stuff into that area, that had cluttered the laundry room. I let Troubles outside, after they left.

Now, he doesn't want to come inside. He did come in to sleep two days after and I thought we were back to normal. But he won't comeiin now. It's still pretty warm out, so I will continue to clean things up and hope he changes his mind when it gets cold.

8 Our new kitten, Sejong, amused himself after I fell asleep last night by gnawing the cable for my earphones in half.

I keep spares, but it is an indication that he is going to be a handful. I think he may turn out to be a big cat, too.

Stirling as a kitten did that twice to the power/recharge cord for my MacBook Air. It didn't take much gnawing to damage the cord to unusable status; he didn't even break the insulation. But it would no longer charge the laptop. Do you know how much an Apple Store wants for a replacement? $100! After the second time, I bought some of that corrugated plastic cable protector stuff you can get at Autozone and enclosed the third cord so he can't get to it.

14 The Siamese in the dog and puppy video is very good-looking -- the way Siamese used to look, before breeders began turning them into anorexic fashion models. You can still adopt the "traditional "applehead" Siamese, though, if you can't find a nice mix.

17 Oh, and the Charlie Brown video . . . was that from one of the TV specials? If somebody used AI to animate some of the comic strips from 1950: As I recall, Charlie, his friends, and even Snoopy looked considerably different when the strip began, and this looks like the TV specials.

Still, heartwarming indeed. "You've got a used dog, Charlie Brown." "Well, Snoopy, you're *my* dog now."

21 As for my furry thugs, they are both three and a half years old now. Stirling is fourteen pounds, Dagny about nine or ten. We were not surprised at Stirling's heft; his big ears and paws as a kitten signaled that would be in his future. But Dagny was such a tiny thing, underweight and with a mild fever when I took her in to the vet initially. Linda says to this day she was afraid Dagny would not live any longer than her distant relative Tatiana, who made it to almost four years before her heart failed.

Looking at the names of the Siberians' ancestors, I see the occasional name, male or female, appearing on more than one pedigree. Tatiana was literally the late Chekov's aunt, for example. So referring to her as Dagny's "distant relative" is at least partly accurate.

You're correct, Wolfus. I used to have about 30 paperbacks from the 60's and 70's that I loved. Funny and wonderful to watch how the characters evolved. Not sure what happened to them. *sigh*

28 OT: About half an hour ago, I thought I heard thunder. Turns out it was the tree in front of my bedroom window, collapsing. It fell -- luckily for me, not so much for the car parked at the curb -- away from my window and into the street. There are huge chunks of wood all over the street. And the car at the curb has had its rear window smashed.

Thank God I didn't park there today.

Is there someone I should call to clean this up? Some city service?

Liz, One of our poodles went completely blind at 4 years old. It can be a problem with white standard poodles. People thought we would put him down. Nope! It took him maybe 2 days to adjust using his brother as a seeing eye dog. No bumping into things, no stumbling. He learned to use his memory, his nose and hearing. Eight years later he could still have found his way out of the Labyrinth of Knossos. Dogs are so amazing.

37 I love the coloration on English Setters. But even when they are excited they look a little bored. It's the eyes. Makes me laugh. I can imagine him quietly tolerating Bean the Tyrant. Please let us know how Charlie the Golden puppy does with the others.

It's incredible how advanced final-days pet care has become. An acquaintance of mine was shook over her dying cat -- it was around 15 years old -- and the pet hospital had rooms for pet owners to stay in overnight so they won't have to leave the animal scared in a cage. When the veterinarian finally determined that this was it, there was no saving the cat and it had maybe hours to live, they had a place for the cat and my friend so she could hold it to the end.

45 When Lucy has her time, I can’t take her to the vet. She hates leaving home. She pants and pees herself and freaks out. I can’t ever do that to her. Hell, going for a routine annual is awful. She just hates it.

Hopefully I won’t have to face that for another few years.

46 Nurse, when we had to let go of our beloved dog years ago, I found a vet service who came to the house to administer the drugs. After it was over, they took Freda with them and had her cremated. They delivered her ashes to us a few weeks later. I was so grateful we didn't have to take Freda to a vet and that she was able to stay at home to the end...

47 Forgot to mention the new pup went to her first slumber party when I had surgery Friday. She went to stay at her brother's home who's owner is my best friend. It was non-stop mayhem. BF was tempted to kidnap the pup. They had lots of fun.

49 I had a local mobile vet come in to see to Chekov at the very last. It was much less stressful for him and for us; he was able to pass away on my bed, with both of us petting and talking to him. The lady took him off to the cremation place, and we went to pick up his ashes a few days later. Much much better.

He does very well. Since he can't hear anything, he takes cues from the other cat reactions. We've had a couple of deaf cats over the last couple of years. Our poor cat Felix (RIP) became blind towards the end and we had no idea. Cats are great at adapting.

56 My experience was amazingly convenient. I found her still warm body on the back deck. I grabbed some nitrile gloves and put her in the trash. It was trash day. The city picked it up in less than a half-hour.

14 years old. No wounds. Just a heart attack I figure.

Just loved her.
