The Historian's Hut -
This painting, by the British artist John Collier (c. 1850 – 1934), endeavors to bring to life an ancient priestess from the famous temple of Apollo at Delphi. Collier’s clergywoman is not just any priestess—she is a Pythia, a prophetess who, when sitting upon her specially-placed tripod in the temple, would utter cryptic messages that were said to have been mystically divulged to her by the temple’s patron god, Apollo. Prophecies and statements from the Pythia were highly valued in ancient Greece, and it was not uncommon for individuals and communities to seek advice from the Oracle before committing to any great decision or undertaking.
Even in ancient times, people in the Greco-Roman world suspected that the famous priestesses at Delphi might have been receiving help literally from the earth in order to enter their prophetic trances. The Roman scholar, Pliny the Elder (c. 23-79), wrote of Delphi in a section of his Natural History that dealt with vents in the earth. (Much more follows.)

As most of you know, about a month ago I was in the hospital for the better part of a week due to what turned out to be a bad stomach virus. While in the hospital, an abdominal CT Scan was performed to rule out anything more serious. We were somewhat bemused when no mention was made of the tumors in my liver, but we figured they weren't looking for that.
When I saw the oncologist 2 weeks ago, he was somewhat confused as well, so he asked for more information from the hospital's radiology department.
We saw the oncologist again today (scheduled appointment), and he showed us the images that he was sent. There is lots of calcification (indicating tumor cell death) where the smaller tumors had been, but he didn't see any sign of the small tumors anywhere. The area where the largest (8 cm) tumor was now shows lots of calcification and a significant amount of tumor shrinkage.
The largest tumor has now shrunk to 3.9 cm in diameter. The amazing thing about that is that while a tumor of 8 cm has an approximate volume of 268 cubic centimeters, a tumor of 3.9 cm only has an approximate volume of 31 cubic centimeters, a shrinkage of almost 90%!

The Oracle at Delphi was where you went in Ancient Greece if it was *really, really* important that you know the future. Of course the Oracle, through the priestess, often gave you these infuriatingly generic predictions: "Two nations will go to war, and only one will win," that sort of thing.
Sometimes It could be specific. It warned Laius, the father of the man later to be known as Oedipus, that he (Laius) would die at the hands of his son. He did -- but he thought the attacker was a stranger. Everything he did to avoid the prediction coming true was useless.
It was the Oracle, too, who told Heracles (Hercules) that to atone for the murders (while he was insane) of his wife and children, he had to submit to his cousin, a local king. The king set him to the Twelve Labors. So the Oracle was in there pitching on a lot of the games in Ancient Greece.

I've only been once, but generally, avoid the touristy areas. It depends what you're looking for. Do the Acropolis and its museum. The rest of Athens can EABOD as far as I'm concerned. Naxos is a nice island with fewer tourists. I'll be up in central and northern Greece this time, and over on Lesvos. Happy to provide more guidance and reviews when I get back.

It's just that calendars don't start with Year Zero as a general practice.
So, when Dionysius created his calendar, he started it with 1AD. And when it was extended backwards, they continued the general practice of having the year before be the first year of a new calendar, so 1BC.

I think it's pretty obvious that most female homosexuality stem from that; it's also my personal observation from those I've known. It's most likely why females appear to have a much easier time switching back and forth as the mood takes them. (Not all, of course, but some)
Some men are like that. But some have just fallen completely for the urge to screw anything that moves anytime they want, and it's easiest to find that with someone else who has the same drives.

It's not people, places, or things that make the alcoholic drink or addict shoot up. It's the spiritual void inside each individual that needs filling. Fill in hat void up with a spiritual way of life and that alcoholic or addict is free to go anywhere and associate with anyone he pleases.
Aversion is therapy puts limits on every aspect of one's life trying to avoid the least little bit of temptation. Aversion therapy hollows one's life.
