88 Thanks WeirdDave! The Bernie cartoon is priceless.

I made pretty good progress on recovering from the hack, at least I didn't make any big mistakes yet, except losing some screws when reassembling a laptop. Those screws are so darn tiny that I can't pick them up with my fingers; have to use forceps. And when the forceps slip, the screw flies about six feet. Might as well be six miles for all the chances I have of finding it.

With screws missing, the case has to be squeezed a little in the tender bits to get the darn thing to even boot. After that its OK. I have a whole pill bottle full of those little screws around here, but it seems to be as lost as today's leaping screws are.

Didja ever notice that when a screw goes into a tight place with no well to guide it, it's hard to even get adequate light past fat fingers to even see it?

Nuked my Facebook. Take THAT, Big Tech! Nuked my X a few weeks ago when the Dem astroturf megaphone belched out all those disgusting lies about Charlie Kirk. I couldn't take it any more.

111 Apache video. As far as I can tell, the Russians have stopped using attack helicopters in Ukraine. They were used to great effect to stop the Great Ukrainian Counter Offensive back in 2023.

I'll speculate that a scarcity of appropriate targets (it is a rare day when you see a Ukrainian tank) has made risking helicopters on the battlefield a poor trade-off.

Way back when I used to nature/bug photography, and 'ecotourism,' I'd get ticks. I think the worst was a place in Missouri (a breathtakingly beautiful state.) I came out with thirty ticks, of three different species.

They never settle in on me though, because bugs don't eat veal. I don't have to pull em out, just flick em off. Always check your crotch twice, your armpits, head hair, and especially the creases under the overhanging belly. They LOVE that shit! Cozy, warm, quiet.

214 So, you probably don't approve of the fake throw prank. That's where you pretend to throw a ball to the other side of the room. Your dog runs all over trying to find the ball and bring it back.

To me, that's different. That's play.

Food is primal to a dog, to any animal, including us. Why be a dick with your dog when it comes to food? Making him sit and wait. Fine. But c'mon, let Spot eat.

215 196 Closest I get to teasing Daisy, our dear Belgian Malinois, is to act like I'm throwing the ball one direction, and she runs 'way out in anticipation, then I throw it the opposite direction, because her ordinary speed is merely faster than a speeding bullet, whereas when she has to go the opposite direction, she hits warp speed. She likes really going full throttle like that, I think. Hasn't complained.

219 Evening all,

We've had quite the day. Our car (Dad's) had a fuel leak and as my sister was driving back to work from lunch, the engine started smoking.

Thankfully she was right by an auto repair shop. So now we have the expense of getting our car fixed and the cost of a four day rental. The rental cost us about $800. I had no idea that they cost that much.

It's a very nice car (Nissan Sentra). Compared to our 20+ year old car, the rental is super fancy, it even has a camera when we reverse.

Didn't need this right now.

Flaky neutral safety switch might cause a no-crank. I don't know if that model truck has a discrete neutral safety switch; more likely it has a "transmission manual valve position sensor" reporting to the ECM. But a failure in that part could lead to the trouble you are experiencing.

274 Blanco, I should stress that the crank relay is the last link in the chain before the starter itself (well, solenoid + starter, but they are combined). If jumping the crank relay terminals does not crank the engine, then the starter or its solenoid is at fault. But you will have bypassed the ignition switch, neutral switch, and ECM.

You're welcome!

However, you're not seeing Saturn in the east around 5:30AM. Saturn is now rising a bit before sunset, and setting about sunrise. It would be visible low in the western sky.

In the east right before sunrise, you'll have a nice show of Jupiter, Orion, Aldebaran and some others. Venus will still be bright, but rise time is getting closer to sunrise.

Sirius is likely that bright star you're seeing low to the east.

314 Are there any fans here of Will Eisner's classic comic strip, The Spirit?

I had a sampler book of classic comics that I sold years ago, but now wish I hadn't. It contained several great Spirit strips, including one that was a fantastic story of a Walter Mitty-type, an elevator operator, who finally one day realizes his dream: he can fly! He can jump off the roof of his super-tall Gotham building, and sail down.

Unfortunately, when he finally does so, he glides right in front of a vicious gang of mafiosi, trying to gun-blast their way out of a trap the Spirit has set.

The final frame in the sequence is of the character, flying... in Heaven.

I went back to the website and looked for tomorrow morning. Jupiter is likely what I'm seeing. Venus is too low. Sirius could be the star I saw to the south.

Last time I looked at Stellarium I became distracted locating objects I had a hand in building and launching.

367 Went to start it and it would crank, start, rev up past 3500 rpm, and immediately die.

That sort of thing is usually fuel delivery of some sort. Bad pump, restricted line, etc.

Got my picture made with Jane Seymour today 🎉🎉🎉

Steven Tyler was eating dinner at The Grand this evening (when I asked if he was Steven Tyler, he said, "not tonight". Fair enough! 👍😂

My fraternity brother was an intern in an ER. Not a week went by without somebody with a light bulb in their ass.

Posted by: WaitingForMartel

Okay, I keep hearing about this one but it makes NO sense to me. Which end of the bulb goes into the ass? Are people coming to the ER with shards of lightbulb inside them? How on earth does someone push a hollow item made of thin glass into a tight orifice? Use a sock darner! Maracas. A whisk.

Is it true there are more Dollar General store locations than blades of grass? ;-)

375 Just left the cave to piss, roughly halfway between the north and east, fairly low in the sky is a star (planet?) that almost appears a little like it has aircraft position lights, red/green. It’s noticeably pulsing or twinkling. I guess I should make a wish. Sure could use a miracle or three.

Where you be at? Rough lat/long or nearest town within reasonable lat/long difference will do it. Give me time in Zulu (or LMT or sidereal) and we can pin that down.

383 Like normal people, I learned to fly an airplane. Easy peasy.

Not my boss. He learned to fly a CH-46 helicopter which has not one, but two, big-ass spinning rotors. That is not normal.

384 If I or others tried to arrange another California MoMe, where would people want to see it held? At Pechanga in Temecula again? Maybe Morongo, not far away in Cabazon?

I also like the idea of going to either Lake Tahoe or Bishop. Someplace red.

Sirius is my guess. It would be low on the horizon and to the southeast early in the morning. If Orion's belt stars roughly point toward it, that's it.

Sirius is the brightest star in the sky (apart from Sol his own self). Bayer name is Alpha Canis Majoris, which roughly could translate to the Alpha Big Dog. It is indeed the alpha big dog of the sky.

387 >> Poor long-suffering Richard.

There's one episode, later seasons, title I can't remember where he does have to put his foot down with her and yell at her. She was making something dangerous, and he had to get serious. She gets shocked, jaw agape, "Richard! You raised your voice to me!"
