Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Gallup: Trust In the Demonic Democrat-Antifa Media Hits All-Time Low; 70% of Public Has Little Or No Trust in the "Press"The numbers are boosted by the older generation, of which 43% still say they trust the media. This accounts for the sudden shift of older people to the Democrats (or perhaps their shift to the Democrats accounts for their bizarre belief that Jake Tapper and Brian Stelter are giving them the straight news). That 8% are Bulwark and Dispatch staffers. They are Paid to Believe. Among Democrats, the numbers are down to 51% who have a great or fair amount of trust in the media. Only 9% say they have no trust. The Independents are more evenly divided, with 27% expressing trust and 32% reporting none at all. ... Trust in the media also shows a clear generational divide that has widened over the past decade, according to three-year aggregated data. From 2023 to 2025, 43% of adults 65 and older said they trust the media, compared with no more than 28% in any younger age group, Gallup found. ... Despite the growing trend of left-wing extremist violence, between Jan. 21 and June 21, news outlets such as CNN, MSNBC, ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS used labels such as "far right" 1,222 times compared with just 86 mentions of "far left" or similar labels, according to the Media Research Center. Moreover, corporate media outlets largely ignored the stabbing death of 23-year-old Ukrainian refugee Iryna Zarutska in Charlotte, North Carolina, for several days, despite news of the brutal incident going viral on social media, a Daily Caller News Foundation review found in September. CNN also faced criticism for appearing to downplay anti-fascist messages found on ammunition near the site of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk's assassination, referring to the markings as "a range of phrases related to cultural issues."

These polls are annoyingly vague.
Try these questions: 1. Do you trust the media to consistently tell the truth? 2. Do you trust the press NOT to omit key facts on a story? 3. Do you trust that the press reports the news objectively consistently? 4. Do you trust the media not to editorialize hard news events? 5. Do you trust the media to report all newsworthy events regardless of who is involved? _________________________________ Just doing a generic and generalized approach like Gallup does here serves no precise purpose, and leaves the results vague. ____________________________ There's another aspect to a refinery being taken down by fire. Currently, there is a slight push to switch over refineries to process sweet, light crude. Primarily, at present we are set up mostly for heavy crude. The switch over is very expensive and not economically sound...unless you could pass those costs over to your insurance (and re-insurance carriers). They'd even have down time coverage for lost revenue during the build back. With the large increase in domestic drilling we are starting to see a significant increase in light sweet crude available for processing, with no where to refine it at the necessary rate. Also, keep your eyes on the EV's manufacturers. GM recently had a whole warehouse of unneeded EV cell batteries go up in a fire and shut down their luxury EV vehicle manufacturing factory for a time. As a cynic, I'd be looking at the insurance available for such an event and looking for accelerants. Posted by: Orson at October 03, 2025 12:28 PM (dIske) 113

Critical thinking is a skill. You have to have some degree of intelligence to be able to do it, but it is a skill. The educational system is designed not to teach critical thinking but to quash it. You are conditioned not to question, not to dig, not to apply skepticism, not to make informed comparisons or look at precedent or consider the logical consequences of anything, not to consider "cui bono" but rather to embrace as divine revelation what the teacher tells you, and what those designated by the teacher as divine revelators tell you. They don't want critical thinkers they want NPCs who will think and do as they're told.

============ The best way to critical thinking is reading a broad set of writings and then history so you can see how those purported principles work out in practice. Unlike our educational establishment, you have to do the work in reading before you can actually evaluate evidence and arguments. Marcuse cites Popper on the paradox of "Tolerance". And a number of people have criticized the normally rigorous Popper for Marcuse's take.
However, recently I've heard the counter that this is only a footnote in Popper. And you can't blame him for what he didn't have the time to flesh out (which he may or may not have failed at, mind you). And this seems reasonable. But what Marcuse gets from Popper's footnote is that by tolerating the "intolerant" you are not promoting tolerance. So the "paradox" is that you have to be "intolerant of the intolerant". Thus, Marcuse's plan suggests cracking down on the speech of the "intolerant", and that such was necessary for a "tolerant society". Posted by: Axeman at October 03, 2025 12:48 PM (krQz2) 264

NBC acknowledged on its "Nightly News" program Monday that it used the incendiary devices in the test crash. Just before impact, there were two plumes of smoke beneath the truck, which he said were the rockets being started by a remote transmitter. Gartner said that, while a particular crash might not produce sparks needed to ignite a fire, NBC wanted to illustrate the danger that a gas tank rupture poses if there is some other heat source, so it attached the rockets. The best way to critical thinking is reading a broad set of writings and then history so you can see how those purported principles work out in practice.
Unlike our educational establishment, you have to do the work in reading before you can actually evaluate evidence and arguments. Sort of like how math requires drudgery until you understand the basic steps. Then you can apply shortcuts. Posted by: whig at October 03, 2025 12:42 PM (WDjG6) That IS one way. The Media and Academia use the Appeal to Authority logical fallacy in their explicit and subliminal messaging. The authority being themselves. Americans and most people in the world have been taught by parents, teachers, politicians, the media, and the 'experts' to blindly trust those in authority and those calling themselves experts. The basic message is, "Pay no attention to those people saying something different. They are not professional journalists. They are so-called scientists without the credentials that 97% of experts in our field consider valid."
This Leftist propaganda architecture is beginning to crumble. It's being undermined by the reach and scope of information on internet, along with the inevitable arrival of what Abe Lincoln predicted, "...you can't fool all the people all the time." The press has established that informing its consumers is not a facet of their raison de etre. They now exclusively exist to promulgate agitprop to forward the narrative that supports the communist agenda.
They may actually have factual information in what they report from time to time, but that is only included to service the deception. 260 I don't know how far Marcuse actually trained any disciples, or if he was just running his mouth like an Internet edgelord of today. He could just be the hippie-era equivalent of a Zizek or a Yarvin.
We know what institutional capture looks like in academia. It looks like Frank Boas and Margaret Mitchell. As a result, modern academic sociology is a bad joke, maybe even an oxymoron. Posted by: gKWVE ====== Having retired from academia, I saw how Marcuse and others from that school started out as a semi joke then something to be taken serious, and now as accepted academic paradigm. Basically, because academia is run like a guild system--those on the outside identified one another at conferences and acted as a cohesive force to create their own networks and seniority to the point of capturing academic heights in social science disciplines. Deconstructionism started in literature in the 60's and 70's because English departments new profs despised teaching the same old thing and worse, competence in writing. From that acorn, it spread to other disciplines merging with the old economic commies and the Gramscians as a way to institute a long march through academia. Liberal Boomers are responsible for some of the worst societal destruction our country has ever faced. From the dissolution of the nuclear family, a breakdown in morality, the scourge of abortion, the Vietnam war protests, the proliferation of government as a welfare provider and so much more. It was all done to disconnect from God, the provider of all this is good and right, whom they also tried to kill off or neuter in order to pursue their evil agenda. It is largely their offspring who seeks to continue that war against our country and society, and it’s a war they’re going to lose. God always wins. Always.

One of the two victims who died in the synagogue attack in Manchester, UK was shot dead by police, with the other victim killed by suspect. In fact, the police were the only ones with guns at the incident. The suspect, Jihad al-Shamie, rammed a vehicle into a crowd of people gathered outside the synagogue, striking several individuals. He then exited the car and stabbed at least one person before attempting to enter the building. Worshippers and security staff managed to block his entry - when armed cops showed up within 7 minutes and shot al-Shamie. You can't go to a protest and disrupt and agitate.
Posted by: Soothsayer at October 03, 2025 12:54 PM (BJUWY) --- Um. Antifa in Charlotte is a case to the contrary. Unite the Right (yech) had a permit to stage their rally. A number of them came there with something like riot gear. Knowing full well that antifa was coming with riot gear. One off-his-meds young man driving his car into another and a young lady falling to her death while dancing to a celebration of WHO OWNED THE STREETS is all anybody remembers about that clash. Except for the "WHOSE STREETS? OUR STREETS" cheer that the media never mentions. UtR had the permit but a violent clash results in "Antifa" claiming to own the streets. They're the victims, despite that there would have been no Charlotte had somebody not come to counter protest. "There was a merchant in Baghdad who sent his servant to market to buy provisions and in a little while the servant came back, white and trembling, and said, Master, just now when I was in the marketplace I was jostled by a woman in the crowd and when I turned I saw it was Death that jostled me. She looked at me and made a threatening gesture; now, lend me your horse, and I will ride away from this city and avoid my fate. I will go to Samarra and there Death will not find me. The merchant lent him his horse, and the servant mounted it, and he dug his spurs in its flanks and as fast as the horse could gallop he went. Then the merchant went down to the marketplace and he saw me standing in the crowd and he came to me and said, Why did you make a threatening gesture to my servant when you saw him this morning? That was not a threatening gesture, I said, it was only a start of surprise. I was astonished to see him in Baghdad, for I had an appointment with him tonight in Samarra." - W. That sidebar link to Not the Bee about the speaker being assaulted by the leftist..........
She knocks him out of his chair, thinking she's just being cute. He falls to the ground, she stumbles and falls in a bush where she's maced. Sure, she FAFO'd, but the mace wasn't really required, other than the fact she needed to be reminded that assault is wrong. They should've had police on the spot knowing it was a liberal college. She was arrested where she resisted and declared they weren't Christians because they maced her. They did HER wrong, you see. Her knocking him out of his chair wasn't wrong. Her violence was speech and his speech was violence. You can't reason with that. They're broken beyond repair. Posted by: Sponge - F*ck Cancer at October 03, 2025 01:19 PM (Zz0t1) 472
