I just heard -- can't cite the source -- that one of the big health officials in the Trump Administration looked at these studies and found the ones that showed an association to be more rigorous and probative and the ones showing no association to be weaker and open to challenge. Something like that is mentioned here: The study, published on Aug. 13 in the BMC Environmental Health journal, did not show that acetaminophen can directly cause autism and ADHD, but the researchers involved in the paper raised concerns about current clinical guidelines around administering the painkiller for pregnant women. "Our findings show that higher-quality studies are more likely to show a link between prenatal acetaminophen exposure and increased risks of autism and ADHD," said Diddier Prada, an assistant professor at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai who was involved in the study, in a statement. "Given the widespread use of this medication, even a small increase in risk could have major public health implications." Prada added that "pregnant women should not stop taking medication without consulting their doctors," noting that "untreated pain or fever can also harm the baby. Our study highlights the importance of discussing the safest approach with health care providers and considering non-drug options whenever possible." The paper adds to a body of research that has been collected about acetaminophen. In 2019, a study from Johns Hopkins University that analyzed umbilical cord blood samples found an association between newborns with the highest exposure to the painkiller and ADHD or autism diagnoses during childhood. Researchers found that they were "roughly three times more likely to be diagnosed" with either neurological condition later in their childhood when compared with children who were exposed to the lowest levels of acetaminophen, said the university at the time.More at the link, including a Swedish study throwing doubt on the association. The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) called on the Pentagon to protect the religious rights of military personnel after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced a new “no beards” policy. Hegseth told military leaders, “no more beards… we’re going to cut our hair, shave our beards and adhere to standards.” CAIR urged the Department of Defense to clarify that religious accommodations will remain in place for Sikhs, Muslims, Jews, and others.
----- How about "no"? How about we just declare that Muslim ideology is incompatible with service in the United States armed forces and be done with this charade once and for all? Posted by: Crusader at September 30, 2025 06:38 PM (TN0g+) 6

And I eagerly await the Lefties who will claim that reducing drug prices in the U.S. is acshullly terrible, and the prices should go higher than ever.
Dirty secret - a drug costs a billion to research, and 10 years to get approved. They have to recover that money. But the erst of the world wildly underpays them, so they jack up the U.S. prices to get the payback. If the rest of the world would pay a little more, we could pay a LOT less. Posted by: El Mariachi - Attorney at Law at September 30, 2025 07:04 PM (gDhA9) 76
Nah.
Just an FTC and FDA rule that says they must publicly post in a cross-referenced, searchable database, each name and formation of any drug under patent. Posted by: People's Hippo Voice ---------- There is a lot more to it. They could make things complicated so that the specific thing that got approved in USA is only available in the USA, and a slightly different drug is sold overseas. Different prices. They have been doing this for years to extend their patents and while generic drugs can and do copy the formulation, the company comes out with revision that they claim is better --- and then they give Drs a kickback on the new version which is still under patent. I am curious what deals were made to get this to happen. One of the reasons that drugs are so expensive here is that other nations demand they sell cheaper there, or they will go to alternate sources (aka China knockoffs), so its a kind of extortion. Companies do this knowing that they can and will charge more in the USA to make up for it. If they cannot do so, I'm not sure what will be done to make money.
Second, Pharma are big corporations, which mean they have boards that demand an increase in profits every quarter. Cutting their earning from drugs will result in lower profits, which companies will not put up with. So what deals were made to let them make money? I think Trump has kinda made the Oval office ugly but whatever, its his office. His style has always been kind of gaudy and ostentatious (although the new Rose Garden and what I've seen of the Ballroom look very subdued and appropriate for the capitol).

TPUSA is back in Utah today, and there was a bomb scare on the Utah State campus. Their security team was doing sweeps of the campus and found a suspicious package. Looks like it might have just been a false alarm and not connected at all to the TPUSA event. But they have to be hyper vigilant and call everything in, of course.
The TPUSA event tonight has Governor Cox, Mike Lee, and Jason Chaffetz in attendance. Was going to be in a small auditorium, and demand made them move it to the basketball arena. Hope it's 100% full! And well protected. Posted by: LizLem at September 30, 2025 07:32 PM (gWBY1) 181

my problem with the tylenol-autism link is that boys are diagnosed with autism 4x as often as girls. [ . . . ]
Posted by: Christopher R Taylor at September 30, 2025 07:13 PM (dfIr7) There is such a thing as sex linked differences leading to differing outcomes. Men have a higher prevalence for schizophrenia, for example, and women present with schizophrenia, on the average, about a decade older than men. However I have heard an interesting insight that Kennedy might be laying Acetaminophen manufacturers open for lawsuits which will be countered by possible arguments that the childhood schedule of vaccinations are actually the cause, bringing those manufacturers to court as part of discovery; which is about the only way they can be reviewed legally due to their immunity. In a smaller lawsuit, the drug companies would take a loss or pay off with an NDA instead of litigating the issue, but the cost in this case is insurmountable due to all the diagnosed autism cases in the US alone that are life-long disabilities Posted by: Kindltot at September 30, 2025 07:44 PM (rbvCR) 216
