The Former Michelle Obama Staffer Who Hired the Illegal Alien Fugitive as School Superintendent for Des Moines Is Also Running to Replace Joni Ernst as Iowa Senator

Last week we learned that the Des Moines school system hired a fugitive illegal alien to be the superintendent of schools. He was found with a loaded gun, which I don't think is legal for illegals.

He also had prior outstanding warrants for weapon possession.

He was hired by a former Obama staffer named Jackie Norris.

Now we find out that she's running to be a Senator from Iowa, to replace the retiring feminist RINO Joni Ernst.

And she's doubling down on what a great idea it was to hire an unqualified illegal alien.

Democrat Jackie Norris, who oversaw the Des Moines, Iowa School Board for several years while an illegal immigrant named Ian Andre Roberts ran Des Moines' public schools, has rushed to defend Roberts publicly as he faces removal proceedings from immigration services. The Department of Homeland Security said Roberts was found in possession of a loaded handgun, $3,000 in cash and a fixed-blade hunting knife.
But by defending Roberts, Norris may be undermining her own U.S. Senate campaign in a state that is growing increasingly conservative. Norris' campaign did not respond to a request for comment from Just the News.
Norris encouraged "radical empathy" for Roberts
Although it is a violation of federal law for those in the U.S. without legal status to possess a firearm and ammunition, Norris, who is also the former chief of staff for First Lady Michelle Obama, urged people to have "radical empathy" for the superintendent, Ian Roberts, an illegal immigrant from Guyana who has held education positions at school districts across the Midwest and mid-Atlantic regions, despite his immigration status.
"There is much we do not know," Norris said. "However, what we do know is that Dr. Roberts has been an integral part of our school community since he joined over two years ago."
"During his time with our district, he has shown up in ways big and small and has advocated for students and staff, and has begun introducing concepts that will help us reimagine education for future generations," she added.

Nowhere in her statement did Norris address the fact that Immigration and Customs Enforcement said on Saturday that the agency had arrested Roberts after he sped away from officers in his vehicle during a "targeted enforcement operation" last Friday. He abandoned his vehicle near a "wooded area." Moreover, the vehicle was issued to him by the school district.

According to ICE, Roberts had existing weapons possession charges from 2020 and was issued a removal order by an immigration judge in May 2024. The superintendent had entered the country in 1999 on a student visa, but apparently remained in the country.

The controversy comes at a bad time for Norris, who just last month expanded her political ambitions to include a seat in the U.S. Senate. When she launched her bid for the seat in the Democratic primary, she cited her experience on the Des Moines School Board as part of her qualifications.

And don't think he was some kind of exceptional administrator. His last evaluation stated that he "Meets Expectations," which is the middle grade for employees. A Gentleman's C, in other words.

At DLI, our PT tests were run by a SEAL. The final event was a run, which we had to complete in a certain amount of time. He hated it when we'd ask him what the time was, so, of course, someone always did. His usual response was, "I bet if I put a [Hostess] Hoho on the finish line [or sometimes 'a Ding Dong'] you fat asses would run fast enough."

Dude was hilarious. And a very fun and nice guy to hang out with. Gave me some good dietary tips when I was seriously trying to lose weight and get fit.

82 I live in the Des Moines Metro area, and this story is great. Every time more damning evidence comes out, the Lefties try to deflect and deny. There's news out of Maryland that he may have voted out there. There's a letter from his immigration attorney (maybe dated February of 2025?) that basically says "Your immigration stuff is all good now" that they're showing to counter the final removal order Rep. Nunn shared on social media. So we have to show ANOTHER judicial order of removal because his attorney supposedly wrote a memo saying he was clear.

It's great. And if it helps us keep Dems out in the midterms, even better. Their running a fairly popular candidate for Governor (Rob Sand), and he gave a very moderated response to everything, so the far Left is calling him a spineless sellout who's hurting immigrants and supporting ICE abductions. I was running the record for a kid who needed a security clearance to go to an A school in Groton at Sub School. I pulled his SS card and it was over stamped "not valid for employment". I had never encountered that before. Turned out he was a Canadian citizen that had applied for US citizenship that had not been approved and the recruiter got him a SS card based on that.

Somehow this kid wound up going through the entire process of enlisting in the Navy, attending boot camp and being assigned to sub school to attend "A" school without being a US Citizen or a legal immigrant and no one said a word. They finally rushed his citizenship papers through but in the meantime he sat there for months waiting while drawing a paycheck.

What is more fun, to be a superintendant, Iowa DoE had to sign off on his license. That means probably ID fraud in my estimation as they run a separate background check from the school system in order to get a state license.

And he violated federal and state firearm laws by having a firearm, he was arrested in the past for such, and most likely purchased it illegally as a prohibited person.

Where I work, supervisors are actively discouraged from rating employees as "exceeds expectations" which makes the whole performance evaluation a bit of a joke. No one can tell you what "exceeds expectations" is supposed to look like nor are employees really awarded based on merit.

I heard once a suggestion to make the voter rolls relatively safe. It would be a PITA for many people, but think about it for a minute. It actually sounds like a good idea.

As soon as the elections are done in even numbered years - presidential elections and midterms - the voter rolls get 100% purged, and everyone has to re-register. So you’d re-register every two years.

Over under on such employees in Fedworld? For federal contractors? Heck California is openly allowing illegals to serve as police officers. And I would guess more than a few have committed identity fraud in order to work for local law enforcement.

Things may have changed, but when I went to school, getting a PhD only meant you could not get gainful employment after your BS. (With some exceptions, like those who wanted to teach.)

This mostly meant foreigners trying for a work visa, or those unable to transition from academic life to the real world.

My comment may have been unintentionally harsh. I have known many brilliant PhD too, but more on the stupid side.

The smart ones either got their degree overseas, are socially awkward, or are like you said and they wanted to go into a very specific field that more or less required it.

Now things have changed a bit and to get funding for your startup you kind of need credentials so it seems more smart kids are going all the way. Not sure, but I suspect this from what I see.

Even though I am a Privacy rights guy... I think we need a National ID card, tied to Drivers license, VOTER Rolls, Citizenship or immigration status, and Concealed Carry...

We already all have State IDs, so they have all that info anyway... make it so the damn thing is useful.

No National ID? No vote in National Elections... would stop a lot of the fraud cold.

I'm assuming beef prices will correct once cattle currently on the feedlot reach the market. Fuel prices are down, which should bring down the price of feed, cattle transport, etc.

326 Where I work, supervisors are actively discouraged from rating employees as "exceeds expectations" which makes the whole performance evaluation a bit of a joke. No one can tell you what "exceeds expectations" is supposed to look like nor are employees really awarded based on merit.

I had a manager who had everyone in the unit fill out their own evaluations. I was surprised at my cow-orkers who did a fair and honest evaluation on themselves, as I DGAF and filled it all out as "Exceeds Expectations" except for one which was "Excellent" so it looked like I took time to do an evaluation.

If he didn't like how I did his job for him, I figured he had every right to do it himself.
