Oink!
Left out of Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme results is the power requirements and TDP data. Intel can hit some pretty impressive results at the cost of causing a brownout in your neighborhood and not needing to run your furnace in winter. AMD does much better than Intel but not as well as Apple or Qualcomm with respect to power and heat which are quite important in a laptop that spends a fair amount of its time running off a battery. Guesstimating, based on the Gen 1 Snapdragon Elite and the current generation Apple CPUs power/heat results It would be shocking if the second gen Snapdragon Elites perform worse, though it is curious they didn't provide that information at the Maui event. This is not atypical for a Qualcomm rollout event. Still, for Windows PCs this new generation of Qualcomm CPUs are indicating they are going to be home runs with respect to power consumption, battery life, and performance. The long-term build out of Windows on ARM steadily continues with these new CPUs being an excellent milestone. The next generation laptops built on this platform should be excellent, long-term daily drivers. Posted by: Alteria Pilgram - My President has convictions. at September 30, 2025 05:51 AM (aJQjq) 38

Evening to you late toilers, and morning to early risers like me! 'Tis Tiu's Day yet again.
I am back in Da Swamp, having arrived with a scowl on my face at one yesterday afternoon. It's sweltering hot, even now -- 81 F. at 5 am, whereas Evansville was a delightful 61 -- and the roads were the usual torture test of crack and thump almost from the time I crossed the state line. The big red Buick performed like an absolute champ, handling nearly 2000 miles (mostly highway) with perfect ease and chalking up over 33 mpg at 70 mph. It deserves a good bath and vaccuuming. The furry thugs have welcomed me back in the standard fashion. Stirling slept on the bed with me last night; Dagny accepts petting but only approaches me when she wants me to throw toys for her. I was about to order a replacement Anson Belt, the ones with the strap and buckle that can be ratcheted to fit instead of your having to deal with buckle holes. This dark brown, worn quite a bit, is cracking and the inside face is flaking. Then I read their lifetime guarantee on their website -- replacement if one of their belts ever fails. Well, I think it has failed. I'll give 'em a call this morning and ask for a replacement. Can't hurt, right?

Wolfus, what is the verdict from the Evansville trip?
Posted by: Alteria Pilgram - My President has convictions. at September 30, 2025 06:11 AM (aJQjq) 49
Morning, 'rons and 'ronettes.
57 degrees here at Stately Poppins Manor. It's still dark out, which I really enjoy; as much as I don't like working, I find something oddly cosy and comforting typing away before sunrise. I've already done an hour and half's worth of work and have another hour or so ahead, and then it's time for a nice hot cup of tea. I hope today is an easy day, because I am very tired and would like to take a nap. Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing (aka Eloquent Depression) at September 30, 2025 06:17 AM (ufSfZ) 50
AP, my verdict is that I like Evansville well enough, but really liked what I saw of Owensboro across the river. It's smaller (60K people), the roads overall seem to be better paved, the people were just as friendly and helpful, and gas prices are cheaper (which I hope means power bills in general will be lower than in Indiana).
I showed Linda the houses I drove past in Evansville to assess their neighborhoods -- the two I liked out of the four. The others were nice enough houses, but I hated the look of the neighborhoods.) Plus pics I took of the Owensboro river front and other things. No sign of a positive reaction. I'd hoped that, now that she sees I'm serious enough to go visit for real, she'd have adjusted a bit. But no. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at September 30, 2025 06:17 AM (omVj0) 51

Grind on the numbers. House prices, taxes, crime rates, availability of doctors and dental, Road condition, shopping availability, local cultural things and so on. Median income is of less concern since you're retired, but it's an indicator of where you're landing; The $64,000 question is does that place meet your cash flow situation while still being a place you'd actually like to live. The whole goal of retirement is not to go broke and have some fun. Las Cruces is not perfect but it's close enough and that's kind of what you're looking for. The simple measure I use of a place is does it have everything I need and most of what I want. Posted by: Alteria Pilgram - My President has convictions. at September 30, 2025 06:32 AM (aJQjq) 57

89 Got a stray gator in your local fast food joint parking lot?
Well, if you want something done right, do it ya self. Exactly. My son was telling me the other day about how he and some of his blue-collar co-workers encountered a rock slide blocking traffic a dozen cars ahead. They got out and cleared the road, of course ('cept for that one boulder everyone still had to drive around). Lots of people wedd just standing there and talking on their phones and taking pictures. Driverless cars can't get traffic tickets?
"California police officers patrolling for drunk drivers wound up pulling over a driverless Waymo taxi that made an illegal U-turn, according to authorities." “Since there was no human driver, a ticket couldn’t be issued (our citation books don’t have a box for “robot” ![]() I don't think Asimov thought of this particular situation. Hey, packing up everything seems overwhelming to *me*!
Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius I had the same thoughts when packing to move from Seattle to New Mexico; The finality and logistics of such a major move clouds the mind at times. A few pro tips... Use as many uniformly sized boxes as possible and make sure they are easy to carry - without a doubt you are going to move them more than a few times. For me, I found Home Depot has the best boxes. Stick to the small and mediums as much as possible. Pack one box. That is all the further you think about. Start with the items you use infrequently. Then move on up the frequency chart until you are effectively urban camping. Uniformly sized boxes stack uniformly and makes living with them in an apartment much easier. Pitch everything you can. This is tricky to balance. Keep in mind, where you are going will have its own vibe - honor that vibe, start fresh where appropriate. To Do lists are you friend. They keep your brain from buzzing about how much work you have ahead. And finally...Only think about packing one box and only one box at a time. No more. Once you get on a roll this rule gets loose. Local news from Detroit has been heavily covering the story of the church shooting. Guy was neither left nor right, he was just an insane who walked among us. Mayoral candidate for Grand Blanc was door to door canvassing two weeks ago and met the guy. Shooters first question was about second amendment.Candidate passed that test then next question was about LDS. Shooter went on about the evil LDS then declared them the anti christ.
