Democrat Candidate for NJ Governor Who Was Involved in Annapolis Cheating Scandal Turns Out to be Married to Man Who Also Participated in Annapolis Cheating Scandal

And this Power Bottom couple can't remember whether or not they made $7 million trading in defense stocks while the candidate, "Mikie" Sherrill, was on the House Armed Services Committee.

Now it turns out that both of them participated in a massive cheating scandal at Annapolis in which an entire exam was stolen and shared among students.

So there's no reason to suspect that they're grifters who used the ultimate insider information to make themselves rich.

Democratic New Jersey gubernatorial hopeful Mikie Sherrill's husband was also caught up in the Naval Academy cheating scandal that has rocked her campaign, court documents exclusively obtained by The Post show.
Jason Hedberg was one of about four dozen midshipmen who sued top officials at the Naval Academy, Navy and Pentagon in 1994 in a desperate bid to block an Honor Board at Annapolis from deciding whether they should be dismissed from the school.
"In compliance with the orders of their superior military officers, each named plaintiff was compelled to make inculpatory statements to Navy Inspector General investigators," read the complaint, which charged that the students were denied due process.
The details of any "inculpatory statements" by Hedberg are unclear. However, his name is included in the 1994 commencement program, suggesting that he -- unlike Sherrill -- was cleared to take part in exercises some three months after the suit was filed.

The candidate Mikie wasn't allowed to walk during graduation due to her own involvement in the cheating scandal. She claims her only sin was being too loyal to her fellow cheaters and not testifying against them -- but she's also refusing to release her military records so that we can see whether that was her "only sin" or not.

Sherrill told the New Jersey Globe, which first reported Thursday on her being barred from commencement, that her punishment was a consequence of her decision not to "turn in some of my classmates."
A source close to a rival campaign questioned that statement.
"Nobody, including Mikie Sherrill, was barred from graduation ceremonies for covering for their friends," claimed this person, who has reviewed the documents. "That's a bunch of bulls--. Midshipmen were, however, punished for lying to Naval investigators."
While no evidence has surfaced that the future congresswoman was punished for being untruthful to school officials, there are also indications that she has not been up front about what transpired.
Sherrill's team has rejected requests to release disciplinary records from her academy days, which would provide details of any involvement in the scandal.
In response to inquiries from The Post Friday, Sherril's campaign communications director Sean Higgins said: "The fact [GOP candidate] Jack Ciattarelli and MAGA Republicans are going after Mikie's family is sick and desperate -- Jason graduated [and] served honorably as a Naval Officer.
"The illegal disclosure of Mikie's unredacted personal military records, including her Social Security Number, and the unlawful dissemination of those records by the Ciattarelli campaign is a disgrace and must be investigated."

Multiple midshipmen acquired and shared answers to a Dec. 14, 1992, exam for Electrical Engineering 311, a mandatory class for all non-engineering majors. The test was administered to 663 students, according to the lawsuit that involved Hedberg.
In a 2002 episode of CBS News' "48 Hours" that reported on the scandal, one of the students involved estimated that "probably 80% of the people who took that test had knowledge and had seen it the night before."

After graduating, Hedberg became a Navy intelligence officer and Sherrill a Navy pilot. The two have four children together.

65 I was at the Naval Academy the same time this went down, I was a freshman (plebe) and the scandal involved the second class (Juniors). It apparently started with the football team players getting the answers and then they shared it with others. NCIS came in and was very thorough. Most likely she lied to NCIS about something. But as I said in a previous comment, the easier hole in her resume is her lying about how long she was active duty. Either she served 10 years post-Academy and left as an O-3 meaning she was unpromotable, or she's lying about what her "ten years active duty" claim entails.

Probably...although to be fair to her, I think you can do 12 years before being kicked out if you only make O-3 (so she still had a promotion chance). Promotion to O-2 is at 2 years and O-3 is at 4 years, and then next promotion is at 9-11 years for O-4. If she left at 10, she did not promote at 9 or 10, and probably figured she was not getting promoted.

It is a weird time to leave though - usually, you do 10, so you do 20.

A girl I know recorded a rap song. Her and her friend were drunk and high AF and made up words to a song dissing one of their frenemies for stealing her vape. They recorded it over a basic beat. It sounded just as good as any other rap song. When they played it one night over my home system, I didn't realize it was them. I thought it was a real rap song by someone like Cardi B.

They actually got quite a few streams or downloads or whatever they call them on spotify (or whatever they use).

You have to understand the environment, DEI was an unknown term but women were untouchable, and the 90s was worse. They were DESPERATE for their Strong Women to 'prove' women could be in the military.

Even in the 2003-2007 era, unless they did something INSANE, women were immune from being kicked out. Sex in dorm? Man kicked out, woman stayed. Addicted to prescription drugs? Allowed to graduate BOTH ARE ACTUAL THINGS THAT HAPPENED

One year, company officers (that's the actually commissioned officers in charge of students) submitted their picks for midshipmen company commanders (that's the student command staff). The administration forced them to go back and put more women on the list, so they had to go back and tell the men, 'I'm sorry you were the best but I have to replace you with a woman'. And let me tell you, there was ZERO respect for women who accepted the job under those circumstances.

Anyway, what likely happened was she used the cheat answers but lied 'I thought it was a practice test', and they let her slide because woman, and they didn't want her at graduation b/c they didn't want people to know they let her graduate B/C woman

Back in my day, the USAFA Honor Code was: "We will not lie, cheat, steal, nor tolerate any among us anyone who does." That last part was known as the "toleration clause" and it snared many. I assumed the other Service Academies had similar Codes.

I don't know the status of these Codes today, nor if USNA had anything like that in her day. But for her to think that "loyalty" to liars, cheaters, or stealers is somehow laudable?

426 And again as somebody that attended Annapolis, the whole thing with her kids isn't a scandal. The whole 'appointment' thing is misunderstood a lot.

To attend the Academy, you have to have both an appointment by a Congressman/Senator (or other ones they have available based on categories like children of active duty military), and still have to be admitted.

Admittance and appointment are 2 different things - its not infrequent to get an appointment but not be admitted.

By the regulations you can ONLY receive an appointment from the Congressman in the district you live in or the Senators from your state (so every person wanting to go doesn't petition 635 Congressman and Senators and every one of them doesn't have to wade through 5000 a year)

So the only way they COULD get a Congressional appointment was their mother's. It probably would have been better to try and get one of the Senators to appoint her kids instead, but of course she's not going to deny her own kids the opportunity to go.

It's not great that's the way it was set up, but that's the way the system works. I was actually roommates with a son of another Congressman that had done the same thing.

Hate the system.
