477 Dilemma. The fentynyl addict's girlfriend will be released from a detox center in Charlotte NC tomorrow morning. Her parents reside in Charlotte and place her in detox after driving to Dallas to visit her over a month ago. I assume this has been very expensive for them, both in terms of money and trust. But the life of a daughter is priceless. The fentynyl addict himself has let slip he plans to pick the girl up when she is released tomorrow morning. He is still addicted and will drag her back down into the hell her family just rescued her from. I feel obligated to warn the father. I can probably find Mr Rose by reverse searching his daughter's phone number on people finder until I find a Lauren Rose with addresses in Boston (born there), Dallas and Charlotte. Part of me says don't get involved. The other part says Lauren will die homeless if I don't warn her father. I don't see a downside to warning the father. Am I missing anything? Restrictions on TikTok in the United States The short-form video-hosting service TikTok has been under a de jure nationwide ban in the United States since January 19, 2025, due to the US government's concerns over potential user data collection and influence operations by the government of the People's Republic of China. However, the ban has yet to be enforced. ... On January 18, 2025, the day before the deadline of the law, TikTok voluntarily suspended its services in the United States, even though Biden had declined to enforce the ban on his last day in office. ... On January 20, [2025], the first day of his term, Trump signed an executive order that halted enforcement of the ban for a 75-day period while his administration pursues a potential sale of TikTok to American owners. ... It's still warm outside in the afternoon, they're frustrated (and probably did not get enough time during the day to rough-house and burn off that perfectly natural young-male aggression), and they want to tussle a bit on the bus. The bus, however, is not the place for that. I keep telling them: School yard, or back yard, but not on the bus.
Also, so many of them are like jiffy-pop and I have to keep telling them to sit down. Constantly. The entire trip. *sighs* Posted by: Grumpy and Recalcitrant at September 26, 2025 06:02 AM (O7YUW) 79

The missus touched off a nasty spat concerning a proposed plan for how best to set up equipment in two large halls for any upcoming event (and was right to do so, I must add). The whole thing was touched off by the action of an incompetent and unprofessional newbie to the same task last year, and the proposed plan in essence awarded that person for their prior selfish behavior After a couple of rounds of cannonading, she told them that she was done with the matter. Now the "arties of the first art" are begging and pleading with her to come back to the fold of "comity and let's all get along-ness" because they "value her input". Many of the other drivers I talk to tell me similar tales as well. My father passed away yesterday afternoon.
He had been doing fine, as much as fine can be in his condition, for the past few weeks. But on Tuesday he started having problems breathing which got worse over Wednesday to the point we had to give him a small dose of Morphine mixed with Lorazepam to calm him down and help him sleep early Thursday morning. I had to give him more later in the morning, and he slept again. He left us peacefully in his sleep sometime after that as I found him around 5 p.m., discovered he’d passed, and had to call the hospice nurse in who pronounced him deceased after 6. I’ve been watching him deteriorate for a year and a half, so I was prepared as I could be, I suppose, but I thought we’d get a few more months with him, because he seemed to be doing well with little pain from the cancer. He’d only been in hospice care for about a month. So there is comfort knowing he did not have to suffer for too long. I just didn’t expect it yesterday. He is with my mother again, now. They were married for over 58 years, and he was heartbroken since she passed. He lived a good & decent life and did his best always. The good Lord has now called him home. The meeting is expected to be held at the military installation in Quantico, Virginia, multiple officials said, adding that no one seems to know what the meeting is about, including the general and flag officers themselves, or why it was suddenly added to the calendar.

Posted by: Thomas Bender at September 26, 2025 06:52 AM (XV/Pl) The military is different. I assume the most unusual parts of this are that he's pulling in all the theater commanders and he's doing all the branches at once. Generally speaking, even if he wanted face time with all of them, they'd be likely to split the branches. Posted by: I used to have a different nic at September 26, 2025 07:22 AM (ExV1e) 149

maybe Hegseth will pull something like this:
MILLER: George Shultz, for many of us, was like God. He was a really good guy… He’d have all new ambassadors in to his office, one at a time, as they went out for a five, maybe 10 minute chat. And he’d say, “OK, Mr. Ambassador or Madame Ambassador, you’ve passed all the tests. You’ve been confirmed by the Senate and you’ve passed your security investigation. You’ve done all the things to get the position of ambassador, but you have to pass my test. I have one more for you.” And he’d take them over in the Secretary’s office to where there was this massive globe, and he’d say, “I’m going to spin the globe and I want you to put your hand on your country.” 1/2 Posted by: m at September 26, 2025 07:26 AM (aURVT) 152

Shultz would tell this story, and he said, “Every single one of them failed. But I let them go anyway.” Because whenever he spun the globe and he’d say, “I want you to put your hand on your country,” they’d always put their hand on the country that they were going out to. His point was your country is the United States.
