13 Morning, all. 58 degrees here at Stately Poppins Manor. It's supposed to be another clear day. I'm very tired, but with about 3 hours of work ahead of me, I'm sure to be awake in about an hour.

No writing done this weekend, and what little I tried went straight into the garbage can.

Speaking of knots: if you like early 20-th century mystery stories, pick up The Old Man in the Corner by the Baroness Orczy (author of The Scarlet Pimpernel). It's about a woman reporter who interacts with an armchair detective who solves crimes while fiddling with a piece of string as he sits in a London tea shop. It's at Amazon for short money.

15 Have you already scratched your hugely expensive iPhone 17 Pro Max. Yes. Yes you have. (The Verge)

Apple already has a solution for this problem.

iPhone 17 Pro/Max and iPhone Air cases for only $49 (Silicon or Plastic) or $59 (Techwoven).

See?
They think ahead and stuff.

Two different music videos were made to promote the single. The first version of the video, directed by Derek Jarman, is a collection of home movies with the majority of the archive footage consisting of a stage show with swimmers and fountains, and other World War II-era material. Apparently, the footage is courtesy of the director's father, who was one of the first people to use a colour home movie camera. The toddler in the home movie footage is the director himself as a child.

22 Evening and morning, late toilers and early risers both! I'm awake, as I feared I'd be, in a hotel room in Birmingham, AL. with nearly two hours to go until the hotel opens up their breakfast. At least I have coffee. I could go downstairs and use the treadmill in their gym, or get into traveling clothes and go outside to smoke my pipe. Decisions!

No cats either. This is not right.

Good morning, MP4. I've read one or two of those, I think. They come from the same period as Chesterton's Father Brown stories, Jacques Futrelle's "The Problem of Cell 13," Post's Uncle Abner short stories, and Bentley's novel Trent's Last Case.

Mathematicians who have spent 150 years working on a simple way to categorise the complexity of knots have come to a stunning conclusion: We have no idea.

It's absolutely Gordian in scope.

Join forces with the string theory dullards and, together, you'll really ball things up.

He’s far too Zionist for the Anti-Zionist crowd.

At most she would have gotten a few more votes in NYC, and maybe pulled off a win in PA, and then would’ve still lost to Trump.

The problem wasn’t all Walz, he didn’t really help.

I think Sanders would have gone down in flames like McGovern.

It’s one thing to get the 35% of the socialist Dems to vote for you in a primary, it’s an entirely different animal to get 51% of Americans in the general election.

Bernie has no appeal beyond college campuses, the Northeast, Northwest, and the coast of California.

Being an Anti-Zionist Zionist wouldn’t have helped him much, either. But watching him walk that tightrope would have been entertaining.

Bernie’s biggest appeal was his status as a semi-outsider. But being a Democrat only when it came to running for president never endeared him to the party itself. He has nothing besides his mouth to run with, and the establishment Dems would have trued to sabotage his campaign, just like the GOP tried with Trump.

Trump did a hostile takeover of the GOP that took almost a decade to complete, and he still has RINOS to deal with to this day.

Sanders has no such ambitions, nor the ability, to pull that off with the Democrats. He never had a chance anyhow, as 2016 & 2020 both showed Bernie would fold as soon as he got another vacation house out of the deal.

170 The Nvidia investment reminds me of story about Schlemiel and his wife, who lived in Chelm, the city of fools. It seems that one day, Schlemiel decided that he would make money by selling shots of brandy at the fair. So, he and his wife go to the fair with their bottle of brandy and a shot glass, and set up their stand. A customer comes by, buys a shot, and pays them a ruble. Schlemiel looks at the ruble, and decides that he'll spend it by buying a shot of brandy for himself. So he hands the ruble to his wife, and down a shot. His wife decides she wants some, too, so she hands the ruble to Schlemiel and downs a shot. And so it goes, the ruble being passed back and forth, until by the end of the day, Schlemiel and his wife have an empty bottle and one ruble between them. Likewise, Nvidia and ChatGPT will pass the money between them, but by the end of the day, they'll just have an empty bottle and a ruble.
