114 What an effective painting. The realistic details of the dwarf stands out boldly against the dark trees in the foreground and the indistinct areas and people in the background. The dwarf is central, larger than the other areas. The oversized clothing, even the clumsy shoes on his misshapen feet emphasize his odd stature but he isn't a clown, he's a man. The direct look at the viewer is of a mature person, accepting of the situation but not crushed by it. He seems to be saying don't denigrate or pity me. The overall brown color scheme helps set the mood, earthy but not dull. A subtle note is that the figures in the background are tall, leggy. Even the ladder on the left side, long and narrow, carries out that aspect.

"My Uber driver hit on me" is the current meme that women use to try to impress each other. The drivers are all regulated and the company knows exactly which drivers are taking which passengers to where. It takes a passenger 30 seconds to complain on the app. It's highly unlikely -- but not impossible -- that a driver would be so brazen as to hit on a passenger. That risks getting "fired" and potentially sued. So probably 99% of these stories are either made up or highly embellished.

States are not the same category as people. If you are a Christian, you forgive others for their sins because you want forgiveness for yourself (and religion compels it to some extent) but you submit to civil authority to deal with justice matters.

Thus the civil authority is designed to protect the society--and that civil society can take collective action to protect themselves from criminal individuals and from external threats organized or unorganized. A death penalty for furry troon lover boy would be in the interest of the state because internal disorder has the potential to kill millions in a civil war. So state is under no religious obligation to spare his nasty ass regardless of what the family wants or doesn't want.

In death penalty cases, families are usually allowed to make victim impact statements and all mitigating as well as aggravating factors are before the jury to make the final call.

There was a darkly humorous piece a couple months ago (at least for us) about some leftist Palestinian supporter from LA who organized a trip to Gaza for her and some friends, which included some black sympathizers from California. And she was mad that she had to spend most of the trip telling them not to be upset when they were called "n*****" all the time, and treated like servants by the Palestinians, that they should just accept that because the poor Palestinians had suffered so much.

There’s no regulation. All you need is a license and car and voila you are an Uber driver. There is a background check but plenty of if you’re illegal there’s not much to check. Being a citizen is not a requirement.

There is lots of regulation in cities. You need not only a driver's license, but a license to operate a for-hire passenger car. And yes, a background check. And anyone who has a bad experience can not only complain to Uber, but they can complain to the regulatory agency too -- and penalties like fines or suspension can result.

I had a friend whose son was murdered, and it went unsolved for 3 years. In therapy, she and her husband were assisted in working through their pain so that it was not based on any external factors - such as the killer being caught, prosecuted, executed.

So often we hear that victims' loved ones can "find closure" when the killer is jailed, etc.. but that is unhealthy. You should not make your own emotional well-being dependent on the actions of others outside of your control.

I see Erika it as taking responsibility for her pain. She is not demanding others do things to satisfy her emotions, or making herself wait for the "right" legal outcome in order to work through her grief.

Crime victims do not determine the punishment, twelve jurors do and they are under no obligation to 'forgive' the murderer on behalf of society from a punishment set about from law.

Never warp what is here on the earth versus what is eternal designed for saving the eternal soul. Erika demonstrates her faith by doing what she did and perhaps save the soul of the killer but society acts in the temporal sense--to protect existing society by removing a murderer and setting up an example for other wannabes. Saw that story - it happened in Pakistan, of course. That's Sharia law for you.
Knew a oil worker who'd been in Yemen for a while in more peaceful times. He explained why they're so violent; when there's a crime of murder in a village, a family will make up for it by giving the murdered man's family a number of cows, or other wealth. So, every now and then the wealth gets lopsided, and one family starts to own too much, so the villagers will go to war with each other and a bunch of them get shot, and after that they sort it out by apportioning the cattle so everyone's close to even again, and then they're fine for a while. Each village does this every so often.
So don't wonder why the Yemeni's are so violent and barbaric; murdering each other is their national sport.

And your statements were overly broad to the extent of meaning little. The state is going to do what the jury tells them is the sentence, the victim can make an impact statement on sentencing, and that is about it. Whatever she decides is right, is her decision to issue whatever statement she wishes or none at all (not mandatory).

I don't know her, know her faith, nor know what is in her heart of hearts and neither do you nor anyone else. So simply let her do what she is going to do and as jruy, feel free to accept or ignore it as they see fit.

I wouldn't go nearly that far, but I certainly get frustrated with "turn the other cheek" when taken to nonsensical extremes.

She was not wrong, that kid was exactly who Kirk wanted to save, and that is why the left celebrates his death so much. But sometimes people need to be made examples of, and mainstream Christianity has a totally crap record re: sticking up for themselves or for anyone else. Words can save individuals but are wasted in islam/progs as a group in the macro sense.

Many of my passengers are young and frankly very attractive females. I also have no delusions that these women are even remotely attracted to a balding, pudgy, 50-something man.
