62 We've had other paintings by William-Adolphe Bouguereau on the art thread and they are all expressive and attractive. Natural poses, beautiful settings and exquisite skin tones that make the viewer want to keep examining the painting. This one is all of that and adds in tenderness. The girl's direct gaze at the viewer shows contentment in her life. No resentment at her 'duty', not even acceptance, just contentment. It is an appealing and comfortable scene that makes the audience reflect on peace and love.

Wonderful.

83 My aunt Ruth was tasked with watching (keeping out of trouble) my Mom and her twin. There were 11 children in the family. She did a good job as both lived to tell about it. The twins did find a loaded Luger in the bunker and gun emplacement the Krauts built in their front pasture on the North Sea facing England, the day after the war ended. They lived under occupation 1940-45 in Norway. Their oldest brother was killed in the initial invasion. He was in the Norwegian Army.

84 The Elder Sister, 1869
William-Adolphe Bouguereau

I was 'the big sister' many years ago and I don't think that's love and delight in her expression, but it's certainly a nicely done painting.

The young girl in Bouguereau's The Story Book, 1877
- oil on canvas, 1877 and in the Los Angeles County Museum of Art - looks related to the girl, above.

Thanks.

131 Hey Wolfus!! How's Evansville?
Posted by: Madamemayhem (uppity wench) at September 26, 2025

Hello, Madame! I like it a lot, but I like Owensboro even better. Owensboro is smaller and even neater, has better paved streets and parking lots which match with the road so you don't *bump-crash* down or up. Both have nice, polite, and quiet people. Gas -- and power, I hear -- is more expensive in IN than in KY.

I'm thinking about going over to Owensboro again today. Their central bridge, the Blue Bridge, is closed for repairs, so I have to trek over east to the "new" bridge and drive back -- an extra twenty minutes. Still, at this point anyway, it seems worth it.

Some of my preference might be because I got lost in the dark last night, coming back from the nearby Walmart. Evansville does not have very good street lighting and they doesn't light up street signs at stoplights, so I kept making the wrong turns until I got some directions at a gas station.

I see this formulation pretty frequently. I don't think it's accurate.

What we have here is a Republic in the final stage of death - the throes are over, it's just twitching and ragged breathing, now.

There are number of possibilities for what will replace it. An empire is one. If that happened, it would have provincial capitals here and abroad, with suzerains answering to the Big Kahuna in DC (though I'm sure the first Big Kahuna would rename that shithole to something more to his liking).

It's certainly not the likeliest successor system to the US, but it's far from the worst possibility.

My guess is look for additional charges later. Once Comey is formally charged, then it allows extensive search of his accounts, etc. via subpoenas and warrants. Essentially a proctological exam. And the dance begins in negotiations over handing over others involved in the Russia Russia and other Deep State bullshit.

The perjury and obstruction process crimes are the easiest to convict but tying in active participation in an ongoing criminal conspiracy requires both an overt act (showing membership) and the mental agreement with others to do so.

So you get denying rights under color of law as a charge as the focus of the Rico conspiracy among the Russia Russia lawfare crowd.

Brennan is probably one of the next ones to be hoovered up in perjury and obstruction charges now that the deep state DA types in the ED of VA are gone (fwiw Comey's son was in charge of Nat Sec prosecutions in that district and the DA Siebert was blue slipped by both Dem Senators in VA). This is important because Warner as ranking and chair of the Senate Intel committee was a conspirator too.

Vile coffee from a left wing looney factory is why.
The vile coffee is because it serves as a base to upsell people to include all sorts of sugar, milk products and spice packs which is where they make their profits.

When I order coffee, I want coffee, not junk with coffee flavoring. So Dunkin Donuts or MacDonalds have superior plain coffee at a much lower cost and far faster service than Starbucks.

Heck so does QuikTrip or Racetrack/Raceway or Pilot/Buccees/Loves auto and truck stops.

Yup. I once knew a guy who worked at Starbucks, at the home office. I asked him in passing why Starbucks coffee was lousy, and this is the answer he gave me. He said something along the lines of, "your mistake is in thinking that Starbucks sells coffee. We don't. We sell milkshakes with coffee in them. The coffee needs to be extremely strong and bitter to show up at all in the final product."

And for that - coffee milkshakes - it is indeed a good product. Just not my thing.

280 FWIW, one of the secrets on coffee making is the quality of the water used. Want better hotel in the room coffee, use distilled water to make it instead of motel tap water. And a lot of commercial establishments use filtered descaled water to eliminate buildup of scale inside their large commercial brewing machines.

If you get used to home coffee without using filtered or distilled water, it will taste different than what you get at commercial establishments.

Yep. Any beverage with water in it depends on the quality of water. And commercial establishments don't want crap they have to clean from pipes, etc. during the process of turning whatever into water based beverages.

Try the distilled water trick the next time you go to stay at a hotel and use the in room coffee machine whether pods or the mini coffee bags. It may not taste fantastic but will normally taste better than using tap water instead.

If you don't like jugs, Kroger sells individual sized water bottles made up of distilled water by the case. Nice water for travel and using such water can also forestall upset in your lower GI from those bacteria not getting the type of water that they are accustomed to.

I just do the shit that needs to be done whenever because it needs to be done.

Keep in mind, most millennials are playing games and streaming themselves online because they think they're the most important thing to happen to the internet since ever. They will walk past a full trash can, pile something on top in some form of garbage Jenga and not take it out until they're TOLD to, and require you to make an appointment so they can make time to do it.
