That "Drivers aren't too Swift" looks like me and my lovely bride the first time we relied on GPS to drive to an appointment right after we moved to mountainous area USA. It routed us through a 90,000 state managed wildlife area. From two lane paved to one lane paved to one lane gravel to animal path packed dirt.
Wow - but lesson learned. Posted by: Tonypete at September 19, 2025 10:06 PM (z9JLc) 16

Irish people are dicks where Britain is concerned.
Waah, waah, the English are mean and ran your island for however many centuries. Well, you haven't done a great job running it yourselves recently, and maybe you should worry more about being governed by Mecca than by London. I once made the mistake of drinking with a family of Russian Old Believers (kinda-sorta like Russian Orthodox Amish in respect to wearing old-fashioned clothes, but they do use technology).
Those boys can put it away. I came to my senses and went home when they started trying to betroth me to their 15-year-old sister/daughter/niece. Yeah, she was cute as a button, and yeah, 15 was legal in Alaska at that time (and is/was a standard age for marriage in that culture), but that just wasn't gonna happen. I was, I think, 23 at the time. Posted by: Rodrigo Borgia at September 19, 2025 10:12 PM (qpyNK) 27

The toddler crying over not being able to take his tampon shopping...our grands fight over a kid size mop. Have done this for about 2yrs. I said I would buy two rakes but they are going to share the mop.
While they don't fight like they did as chimps of 4 and 2yrs old, they still argue over it. Requiring ia vacuum to share. When they come visit we get our floors clean. Sometimes they dust. We admit to quietly laughing at them when they were younger chimps. When we are done having grandchildren, I am going to mount that mop on a wall like people do prize fish or deer atlers. Proving I survived them. Before I leave for the weekend (I forgot it was Friday, arguing earlier on another blog...I am normally peaceful)...In 7th grade our 5th brothers found tampax containers. Showed us their BB guns and were using them as scopes. Had glued thread or something on them as crosshairs & were so proud when they showed us. We were speechless then laughed privately. And hoped they got them out of the box vs garbage. These boys were wicked. Popping my training bra straps. Sliding a mirror under my door, to check what state of undress I was & I'd step on it. Reading my diary. Posted by: ChristyBlinkyTheGreat at September 19, 2025 10:31 PM (6PCLE) 93

She flies out here and does play with the kids but not really help her daughter, and the reason she is here. She will maybe feed the baby but the jury is out for diaper changes. Tomorrow I am going to make stuffed yellow bell peppers with ground beef, etc, and use the wild rice from Rice A Roni, the San Franciso Treat (without the poison seasoning). Then pop them in the freezer. I read all rice is gluten free, assuming the box does not also set her off. I try at least, as the good MIL. I need a trophy. I took a tour of the Soviet Union in the mid-1970s. On the final day of the tour, in Leningrad, we attended a banquet. The setting was lovely, and we were entertained by a live balalaika band - ethereal music, quite beautiful. There were many courses, each of which was followed by a shot of vodka, purportedly to cleanse the pallet. I had sense enough to fake drinking, but the Japanese tourists at the next table did not. One passed out drunk and was dragged out of the restaurant - the only time I've ever seen that. (I've led a sheltered life.) "Drinking the foreigner under the table" is indeed a national game in Russia.

The niece does not talk about her feelings to anyone, so I hope she does well and nothing creepy happens, like a grenade. We barely knew him, and the niece is no charmer, either. Goth as a teen (my husband's family). I am guessing it won't be ok if I have a couple of gin and tonics beforehand (man, I am mean today). Maybe I can take my support tampax container like that kid. Bless you all. We were with Daddy for 3 days and nights in the end. He was 5yrs bedridden after a broken hip which exacerbated Parkinson's. Basically the heart and lungs of a man 40yrs younger than 84yrs. Unresponsive but would sometimes squeeze my hand. My hero never complained about anything and kept joking til the last days of his life. I was his only daughter, the eldest, and he thought I was something special. He also loved my husband and sons. He was known as a "character." A lot of fun with him as our father. It is a sad time, but try to remember the good times when your FIL was healthy. Moments after my father died, his sitter was with him and woke us all (he was at home those 5yrs with their help)...well, he had the most radiant, peaceful look of awe. He saw something amazing. I smiled through tears. He was here one minute then gone she told us.I never discussed with my brothers or mother his face, but that is what God had me see and it helped. Which is hardly a comfort. Im not fond of this God - its not enough that you sacrifice yourself doing the Right thing, you have to be punished as if you did the opposite? His own Son brings Forgiveness to the world and is crucified for it. Maybe I amuse him Posted by: Fenrisulven at September 19, 2025 11:45 PM (ciYHQ) 316

Wife found advertising from not so long ago about putting your wife over your knee to spank her in public for misbehaving. I'm anti-feminist and skeptical of all the Oppression Olympics but even I was astonished that was once status quo.

Rent a tank of nitrogen - leave the receipt so your heirs can get the deposit back. Put it in a small room with a door. Stuff a towel under the door crack. Open the valve. Lay down. Even if the tank isn't empty when the door is opened, it'll clear to safety in a couple of minutes. If you really want to make it easy for the clean up crew, strip down to your underwear (or less) and put a plastic drop cloth under you in case your body voids your intestines and bladder. They didn't, and it's too late -- the window for the maneuver would've been Sept 8th (or maybe 9th). The main engine hadn't been fired since 2016, and there was some pressure issue. The thing could've blown up if they tried. Me, I would've tried anyway. They're probably going to just crash into Jupiter soon anyway. "God can have his vengeance. I will just arrange the meeting"
I like that Rick, I may borrow. There's something in the Bible, I don't remember exactly where, about how Good Works must go through him. God is serious about that - I'm not right with Him, and so my attempts help others always seem to backfire, usually on them. So Ive had to stop until I get myself in order. I know why he's angry with me too - He has given me the wisdom to recognize the sin I need to put aside, and I'm stalling, as if I can reject them in the final moment and be forgiven. That's gaming His Mercy. I would be angry too Posted by: Fenrisulven at September 20, 2025 12:27 AM (ciYHQ) Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at September 20, 2025 12:28 AM (jj2yx) 399

The attack on Paul Pelosi is cited as an example of right-wing political violence.
What the Democrats won't tell you about David DePape is that he was an illegal alien who voted illegally for socialist candidates, his life partner is an LGBTQ Russian immigrant named Oxane “Gypsy” Taub, and his home featured BLM and LGBTQ signs and flags. David was NOT a product of the right - he was an insane person protected by Democrat sanctuary city policies. Despite being arrested and deportable - he was repeatedly released without prosecution or deportation. The boy may or may not have a job at $15/hr at Subway. He has debts he can't pay. My health insurance on which he depends ends the end of December. He has horrible credit, not able to get a lease on an apartment. No idea about her.
They want to get married. I drove in to Anchorage today to determine if he can even get a State ID, since he already lost his driver's license. He also "lost" his wallet with his previous State ID. He needs an address to get a new one. He doesn't have one. Can't get a marriage license without one. This kid has never shown the least amount of adult behavior so far. How far do I go to protect my grandkid? Do I buy a condo for them to live in? Would take at least 18 months to get them into state housing. By then the kid will be almost a year old. Fuck. The equatorial plane, would be tilted sort of "lower left to upper right" looking at it. And right now, Titan is in front a bit and casting a shadow near Saturn's north pole. You'd see that clearly with a good telescope right now. All the other moons would be there, little in ducks in a row around the equatorial plane. Story time: My parents cut me loose. Guess I was supposed to toe the line and live my life "their way or the highway" so I chose the highway. Fair enough. I took my lumps and screwed up my life until about 30 years old. I finally got sick of being broke, got a *real* fulltime job with bennies, and stopped depending on anyone else. Younger brother? They coddled and enabled him, felt so bad when he had his problems... After Mom died, Dad *still* was ENABLING lil bro to do his thing-- sending $ after $ so he "wouldn't lose his apartment" or his vehicle, yadda yadda yadda. Dude is now 50+, knocked up a GF, married her, & is trying to play Daddy to her *other* kids too... and begging for help all the time... When he gets some $ to 'get caught up on bills' -- what does he do? He doesn't use it to get ahead while working his butt off, no-- he slacks off until it's all gone & then "Woe is me!" again. Dad's gone now, too and I sent lil bro the last $ I'll ever send a year ago. Now that I see the pattern. Again, I'm so sorry! Posted by: JQ at September 20, 2025 01:20 AM (rdVOm) 452

Spiny lobster out of the Gulf or South Atlantic are fine. As far as seafood in general goes I had a sopa de mariscos down in southern Mexico that was out of this world! That was in Oaxaca State on the Pacific coast!

"Whining that Chief God is being unfair and too tough on you ain’t going to cut it."
It's a mistake to even attempt to judge what is unfair. I trend towards the idea that souls live several lives and each one evolves the soul into its final forms. Suffering may be one of the key factors that gives a soul its beauty, or it may be an immunization to survive a greater range of trials and tribulations in the next world. I would imagine an Angel must be able to endure levels of sorrow that would drive a human mad. Sometimes its a blessing to not work in the kitchen. I am going through the process of watching someone who has been devious, cruel and unrelenting to me - this is not a matter of opinion and he clearly has a severe personality disorder - suddenly be struck down at a reasonably young age with something I wouldn't wish 1/10th of on anyone short of a child abuser/molester and even then I really don't know. None of us escape without pain and misery, we all get our time in the barrel - and I wanted this person out of my fucking life forever - but holy shit not like this. In any event I have prayed in earnest for him to overcome this, regardless of what it would mean for my own psychological or physical well being should that occur. Brit Lass is convinced he is still plotting against me even now and as insanely self-centered and deluded as the very thought sounds, she may not be wrong. Hell, Neptune's opposition will be the 23rd. So, Saturn 21, Equinox 22, then Neptune. Running Stellarium with JPL's DE440 high precision ephemeris, it puts the exact moment of Saturn opposition at 1:45:38 EDT (05:45:38 Z). Now, other official sources are all over the map on that, ranging from 1:37 to 1:57 I've seen. That bothers me. Grok sez don't sweat it, because lower precision solar ephemeris may be used for this by different sources, as the planet doesn't move much, and opposition is generally consider as over a day anyway. I've NO doubt, that the whole "wet-market" thing was completely, utterly, bullshit. Politics aside? Yeah, Chinese food is...sometimes 'questionable' However-- I do believe that teh kung-flu was lab-created. Posted by: JQ at September 20, 2025 03:38 AM (rdVOm) 552

Posted by: BurtTC at September 20, 2025 03:37 AM (fcNj0) Oh, I checked it out. Nope. Not going there. I'll let the experts fight it out. Posted by: BurtTC at September 20, 2025 03:41 AM (wFqrs) 554
I understand that you don't want your kid (and certainly not an innocent grandkid!) on the streets, but neither is there any obligation to give them any extras.
Posted by: Rodrigo Borgia at September 20, 2025 01:50 AM (qpyNK) How 'bout a trailer on Romig Hill? Plenty nice, but the site rental is $800. Damn. It is cheaper to buy a cheap condo and pay the little tiny fees that come with that. We shall see. Posted by: tcn, Pickle Queen of Alaska at September 20, 2025 03:42 AM (urtE/) 555
Well, to be fair... the Chinese *do* eat some weird-ass shit...
Posted by: JQ at September 20, 2025 03:27 AM (rdVOm) Nephew explained to me that the only thing the Chinese WON'T eat is... Chinese people. Posted by: tcn, Pickle Queen of Alaska at September 20, 2025 03:44 AM (urtE/) 556
You know why I really hate all these fucking dummies and their stupid conspiracy theories? Because, for the first time in decades, we got the real information from the FBI and we got it quickly. If there was ever a time to believe the Facts presented by the FBI, it's now. Law Enforcement made it all public. At least, most of it. They're probably holding back some details for the prosecution. They didn't hide shit from us like they did in the recent past. They didn't even play games with the motive and pretend it would be perpetually "still unknown." But some people can't stop themselves from believing what they want to believe. Posted by: Soothsayer at September 20, 2025 03:44 AM (9Dm6T) 557

Posted by: JQ at September 20, 2025 03:38 AM (rdVOm) I had an earlier part of my career where I was working in the infectious disease realm. So much of the early "expert" claims sounded like utter bullshit, and I remember even coming here and questioning some of it, only to get shouted down. Which is why I sorta went down the rabbit holes of conspiracies and all that. Spent a lot less time here too. By the time they were calling Trump a rayciss, I was already onto American universities that were supplying the viral material that made it over there. So in a very real sense, no. It wasn't a "Chi Nah" virus, but whatever. It sure as hell didn't come from bat soup. Posted by: BurtTC at September 20, 2025 03:46 AM (wFqrs) 558

We shall see. Posted by: tcn, Pickle Queen of Alaska at September 20, 2025 03:42 AM (urtE/) Sometimes you have to do what you have to do, even if you strongly suspect people are going to waste your time and money, and break your heart. Posted by: BurtTC at September 20, 2025 03:48 AM (wFqrs) 559

But some people can't stop themselves from believing what they want to believe.
Posted by: Soothsayer at September 20, 2025 03:44 AM (9Dm6T) It's problematic for anyone to START with a belief, and then go fishing for evidence to back it up. But I think it's more dangerous to think Kash and Dan and Pam have cleaned up the FBI, and now we can just go and trust whatever they say. Posted by: BurtTC at September 20, 2025 03:51 AM (wFqrs) 561

However, they've slaughtered so many tigers, there aren't enough of them to keep the shops full of the product. So what did they do? They pay African poachers to kill lions, and then lie to the buyers about it being tiger bone. Posted by: BurtTC at September 20, 2025 04:01 AM (soMIk) 564
I'll stick with "Americanized" Chinee food, thanks very much...
Eggrolls. Stir-fry. Fried rice. Spicy beef (BEEF, not mystery meat) Maybe a few other things-- things I *know* are what they're supposed to be-- things I can identify. LOL! Posted by: JQ at September 20, 2025 04:05 AM (rdVOm) 565
Oh, and for The Burning Times?
Ratburgers. Yep, plenty of rats around here. Cat won't get ALL of them, I'm sure. Posted by: JQ at September 20, 2025 04:08 AM (rdVOm) 566
Once all of the quail are gone, of course!

Posted by: JQ at September 20, 2025 04:05 AM (rdVOm) We have a guy who married into the family. Nice guy, Mexican-American, a bit of a slickmeister, but he's alright. Anyhoo, he claims these skills at "authentic" Mexican food, and brings it to family get-togethers, gives out jars of homemade salsa, that sort of thing. All in all, I prefer Taco Bell over his "authentic" Mexican. Posted by: BurtTC at September 20, 2025 04:08 AM (soMIk) 568

I made "mild, sweet" salsa one year. Gave away quart jars to some relatives what couldn't handle spicy food.
Granddad was eating it like soup-- had a bowl full, ate it with a spoon & said he loved it! Posted by: JQ at September 20, 2025 04:13 AM (rdVOm) 573
