I came to my senses and went home when they started trying to betroth me to their 15-year-old sister/daughter/niece.
Yeah, she was cute as a button, and yeah, 15 was legal in Alaska at that time (and is/was a standard age for marriage in that culture), but that just wasn't gonna happen.
I was, I think, 23 at the time.

Our li'l kitty Scout passed away on Tuesday, and we have been mopey and sad. So, now we must remedy that.
I must say, though, that the vet clinic we took her to mailed us a very sweet card with her pic, and a hand-written condolence note. I would recommend this place to anyone with a pet.

Tomorrow I am going to make stuffed yellow bell peppers with ground beef, etc, and use the wild rice from Rice A Roni, the San Franciso Treat (without the poison seasoning). Then pop them in the freezer. I read all rice is gluten free, assuming the box does not also set her off.
I try at least, as the good MIL. I need a trophy.

That toddler is how I am going to look when I have to go to the atheist's funeral and tip toe around no offensive prayers. Niece's husband, an auntifa loving guy who spent his entire life on unemployment...before he got ill due to heavy drinking. Then SSI. Something was wonky because he was on a transplant list. The niece does not talk about her feelings to anyone, so I hope she does well and nothing creepy happens, like a grenade.
We barely knew him, and the niece is no charmer, either. Goth as a teen (my husband's family). I am guessing it won't be ok if I have a couple of gin and tonics beforehand (man, I am mean today).
Maybe I can take my support tampax container like that kid. It probably won't look any weirder if his family is there.
This is probably why I have been mean today, now that I think about it! Good! Mystery solved!

Thank you. I lost my own father to cancer in 2001. I remember hearing him cry in frustration from vomiting so hard. I had to jam my fingers deep in my ears to block the sound from becoming memory. It didn't work..The worst thing I can imagine is seeing a loved one suffer like that.
My father's law partner followed events closely. A few years later he got the same diagnosis and chose to eat a shotgun. After seeing what my Father went through I cant fault him.
The wife is handling it well. But she is on night watch. Im hoping that he goes fast and that she isn't the one to find him.

Bless you all. We were with Daddy for 3 days and nights in the end. He was 5yrs bedridden after a broken hip which exacerbated Parkinson's. Basically the heart and lungs of a man 40yrs younger than 84yrs. Unresponsive but would sometimes squeeze my hand. My hero never complained about anything and kept joking til the last days of his life. I was his only daughter, the eldest, and he thought I was something special. He also loved my husband and sons. He was known as a "character." A lot of fun with him as our father.
It is a sad time, but try to remember the good times when your FIL was healthy.
Moments after my father died, his sitter was with him and woke us all (he was at home those 5yrs with their help)...well, he had the most radiant, peaceful look of awe. He saw something amazing. I smiled through tears.
He was here one minute then gone she told us.I never discussed with my brothers or mother his face, but that is what God had me see and it helped.

What's it all for? He was so very sick, then rallied for a few years, and then suddenly went all haywire to the point I can't provide the care he now needs.
I'm not suicidal.
But I do wonder just wtf will be my purpose after hubby leaves this life?

Actually he had his chance. Two years ago I hit a wall on I-35 at 80 mph. I should be dead. My entire right arm was covered in one huge blood rash, as if an Angel had pulled me from Hell. So He must not be finished with me.
Which is hardly a comfort. Im not fond of this God - its not enough that you sacrifice yourself doing the Right thing, you have to be punished as if you did the opposite? His own Son brings Forgiveness to the world and is crucified for it. Maybe I amuse him

My husband speaks highly of Southern girls. He has to, you know. But he did and does. I was unique out West in college. Only Southern girl in my nursing class. Most people would be a bit shy but I never have been, so I wasn't going to start. Big deal, I can't say A in words, like cake or baby. I sound Australian I am told. I have all my teeth and did not marry my cousin!
I did learn to lose some of my accent, but it has come back in olde age. Used to be the signal for my dude that I'd had enough to drink when the drawl appeared.

Have some compassion for whoever has to clean up. I had to help clean the bedroom where a cousin's husband decided to eat a 1911.
Rent a tank of nitrogen - leave the receipt so your heirs can get the deposit back. Put it in a small room with a door. Stuff a towel under the door crack. Open the valve. Lay down. Even if the tank isn't empty when the door is opened, it'll clear to safety in a couple of minutes. If you really want to make it easy for the clean up crew, strip down to your underwear (or less) and put a plastic drop cloth under you in case your body voids your intestines and bladder.
And, as I've said before, this is the ideal death penalty mechanism. Cheap, easy, and not at all painful.

He was sleeping at lunch time, (my normal visit-time) & CNA said he woke up very early this morning, so I let him sleep.

They want to get married. I drove in to Anchorage today to determine if he can even get a State ID, since he already lost his driver's license. He also "lost" his wallet with his previous State ID. He needs an address to get a new one. He doesn't have one. Can't get a marriage license without one.
This kid has never shown the least amount of adult behavior so far.
How far do I go to protect my grandkid? Do I buy a condo for them to live in? Would take at least 18 months to get them into state housing. By then the kid will be almost a year old.

You might try calling the local Catholic Church and making an appointment with the priest. Most of them are very open to guiding those who need spiritual help. Very few will "make you Catholic or else." And it is their job to welcome the stranger, so they are attuned to the need for spiritual guidance.

I was just looking at Saturn in Stellarium. Right not, the rings are close to edge-on, tilted slightly up. The equatorial plane, would be tilted sort of "lower left to upper right" looking at it.
And right now, Titan is in front a bit and casting a shadow near Saturn's north pole. You'd see that clearly with a good telescope right now. All the other moons would be there, little in ducks in a row around the equatorial plane.

Younger brother? They coddled and enabled him, felt so bad when he had his problems... After Mom died, Dad *still* was ENABLING lil bro to do his thing-- sending $ after $ so he "wouldn't lose his apartment" or his vehicle, yadda yadda yadda. Dude is now 50+, knocked up a GF, married her, & is trying to play Daddy to her *other* kids too... and begging for help all the time...
When he gets some $ to 'get caught up on bills' -- what does he do? He doesn't use it to get ahead while working his butt off, no-- he slacks off until it's all gone & then "Woe is me!" again.
Dad's gone now, too and I sent lil bro the last $ I'll ever send a year ago. Now that I see the pattern.

I lived in a trailer at that age (assuming early 20s, since you mention that he's about to fall off your insurance) and it left no external scars.
I understand that you don't want your kid (and certainly not an innocent grandkid!) on the streets, but neither is there any obligation to give them any extras.

It's a mistake to even attempt to judge what is unfair. I trend towards the idea that souls live several lives and each one evolves the soul into its final forms. Suffering may be one of the key factors that gives a soul its beauty, or it may be an immunization to survive a greater range of trials and tribulations in the next world. I would imagine an Angel must be able to endure levels of sorrow that would drive a human mad. Sometimes its a blessing to not work in the kitchen.

Boy what a strange odd and weird time for me to encounter such a question.
I am going through the process of watching someone who has been devious, cruel and unrelenting to me - this is not a matter of opinion and he clearly has a severe personality disorder - suddenly be struck down at a reasonably young age with something I wouldn't wish 1/10th of on anyone short of a child abuser/molester and even then I really don't know.
None of us escape without pain and misery, we all get our time in the barrel - and I wanted this person out of my fucking life forever - but holy shit not like this. In any event I have prayed in earnest for him to overcome this, regardless of what it would mean for my own psychological or physical well being should that occur. Brit Lass is convinced he is still plotting against me even now and as insanely self-centered and deluded as the very thought sounds, she may not be wrong.

Hell, Neptune's opposition will be the 23rd. So, Saturn 21, Equinox 22, then Neptune.
Running Stellarium with JPL's DE440 high precision ephemeris, it puts the exact moment of Saturn opposition at 1:45:38 EDT (05:45:38 Z). Now, other official sources are all over the map on that, ranging from 1:37 to 1:57 I've seen. That bothers me.
Grok sez don't sweat it, because lower precision solar ephemeris may be used for this by different sources, as the planet doesn't move much, and opposition is generally consider as over a day anyway.

The new ownership has been a breath of fresh air after decades of mismanagement. The last month or so has been brutal but I'm really happy with the direction.
McLean looks legit. As bad as the Mets have been for most of my life somehow they keep finding great arms no matter who is running the place.

One thing I absorbed somewhere along the way is to find a substitute for the "why" question. Why implies the source we are asking for answers from has done something wrong. If it's possible, ask "what" or "how" questions, and see if you get different answers.

Because, for the first time in decades, we got the real information from the FBI and we got it quickly. If there was ever a time to believe the Facts presented by the FBI, it's now. Law Enforcement made it all public. At least, most of it. They're probably holding back some details for the prosecution. They didn't hide shit from us like they did in the recent past. They didn't even play games with the motive and pretend it would be perpetually "still unknown."

I had an earlier part of my career where I was working in the infectious disease realm. So much of the early "expert" claims sounded like utter bullshit, and I remember even coming here and questioning some of it, only to get shouted down.
Which is why I sorta went down the rabbit holes of conspiracies and all that. Spent a lot less time here too.
By the time they were calling Trump a rayciss, I was already onto American universities that were supplying the viral material that made it over there. So in a very real sense, no. It wasn't a "Chi Nah" virus, but whatever.
It sure as hell didn't come from bat soup.

We have a guy who married into the family. Nice guy, Mexican-American, a bit of a slickmeister, but he's alright.
Anyhoo, he claims these skills at "authentic" Mexican food, and brings it to family get-togethers, gives out jars of homemade salsa, that sort of thing.
All in all, I prefer Taco Bell over his "authentic" Mexican.
