Sunday Overnight Open Thread - September 14, 2025 [Doof]

doof-kid-and-dog.jpg

Welcome to the Sunday ONT. So glad you chose to stop by and end your week here. Open thread as always. Feel free to talk about whatever is on your mind. As far as content, tonight will be mostly fun and wholesome stuff. Feels like we need that! Hopefully the comment boxes will also feature some fun and wholesome things.

Feel Good Story

Dad And His Dog Share Breakfast Together Every Morning — And It’s The Sweetest Routine

doof-dog-breakfast-with-dad.jpg

Some traditions are too precious not to share—like this one between a dad in Norway and his 14-year-old dog, Ruby.

A series of wholesome photos recently went viral on Reddit after the man’s daughter posted about their daily breakfast ritual.

“Every morning, Ruby (14), sits at the breakfast table with my dad (75), who makes sandwiches for her,” she wrote.

***

The daughter explained that the two have followed the exact same routine for years: same time, same spots at the table, and always the same sandwiches.

***

The photos capture more than just a meal—they show a bond that has only grown stronger over time.

It’s proof that the little things—like breakfast with your best friend—are what make life truly special.

More photos at the link.

It's that time of the week - when we turn the ONT over to our good friend Piper for a bit.

------

Our hearts break for the Kirk family in this unimaginable loss. The vision of Charlie’s father collapsing and begging for his son back is beyond painful. Erika, a devoted wife and mother, is facing the deepest grief while holding her young family together. Erika describing her 3-year-old daughter running into her arms, asking "Where's Daddy?"—and Erika, through tears saying , "Baby, daddy loves you so much. He's on a work trip with Jesus so he can afford your blueberry budget” shattered me. It still shatters me.

While we are seeing the worst of humanity, we are also seeing a faithful spirit movement, a global revival the likes I never thought I would witness. God is very, very good. In honor of the fearlessness in which Charlie Kirk spoke the Gospel, please join me in praying for his parents, his wife, and their little ones that they may find peace and healing by carrying Charlie’s light forward.

‘Ette Couture in its regular form will return next week with a special edition AOSHQ Retro Feature.

Thanks, Piper.

The Norwegian fellow and his dog breakfast feature is very heartwarming, but surprising to me in one way. Norwegians have like 50 different kinds of fish in a tube that is always on the table at every meal. Surprised it's liver pate'. The other thing always on the table is about a half dozen different jams and jellies. Both sides of my family are Norwegian going back hundreds of years, so I know whereof I speak.

56 Our pastor had a great sermon today, about Charlie and the 3 women murdered as well this week. He spoke of peace in knowing we have a place of refuge in God, about people feeling a calling and the power in this, as well as to stop being quiet Christians, but hold the hand of someone who is moved to return to the Gospel, praying with them. It was a great service in a packed church. It’s recorded if anyone feels they need an uplifting message. Let me know.

57 AOP, just the pablum you'd expect from a Francis / Leo drone. Stop the war. Support the Catholics there. Donate.
A cynic might ask about the Catholics in Syria, or for that matter in Africa. Syria and Africa have many more Catholics than Gaza does.
But everyone's looking at Gaza so, if the Church wants to stay Relevant, the Church better publicly care about Gaza too.
Also Jews are an easier target than are Muslims.
If one were a cynic.

Good evening, all. I've been posting about Temu Jack Sparrow becoming the President of the Oxford Union, and it looks as though he might be yanked. I can't tell you what a small but significant development this feels to me.

He's a slouching DEI slob whose "authenticity" we're supposed to celebrate, he debated Charlie in the past at the Oxford Union, and he posted one of those vile celebrations of Charlie's death.

Oxford Union members and ex-members got busy and his Presidency is now in doubt. A formal vote awaits.

This is a double-takedown of someone who is both DEI and hateful, and it's happening because of Charlie. People have stopped shrugging off these rebukes to civilization and tradition and they're fighting.

103 I still remember a sermon from when I was in high school - it was the story of a 5-year-old boy who was the light of everyone's life; one who radiated pure joy. He ended up dying in an accident of some sort, and at his memorial service the pastor leading the service told everyone there that it had only taken this little boy 5 years to learn all that God wanted him to learn while on Earth and had taught all that he was supposed to teach to others, and that he was being rewarded by being called to a happier place.

That's how I am choosing to look at young Mr. Kirk's life - he had learned the important things, and had taught others all that he was supposed to teach. He is now reaping the rewards of the life that he lived while down here.

120 From wiki article Killing of Iryna Zarutska

The killing garnered national attention in the United States, particularly from right-wing political commentators, and was described by The Charlotte Observer as having become "politicized".[30][31] Conservative commentators accused mainstream media of not covering the Charlotte killing, which involved a white victim and a black suspect, with the same intensity as they did in the Jordan Neely case where the situation was opposite.

...the same intensity as they did in the Jordan Neely case where the situation was opposite.

No, they spiked the story whereas in the Neely/Penny case they deliberately inflamed the public with false reports claiming Neely was just minding his own business when some cracker up and killed him for no reason.
If the news handled both similarly they would have called for a race war to avenge Iryna.

There may be "next assassins" and more death. It will imo very likely get much worse before it gets better. And maybe it won't get better.

The change is - there is a group of people who are learning to live without fear, who will speak and act according to their conscience. And I know that it can be said that the other side is acting according to their conscience.

But I believe there is an objective right and wrong and a Divine Power that ensures that good will win.

149 Many years ago - mid-90's I was on a commercial flight Dallas to LA. Wide-body. Night flight. I was one of only maybe 10 people on the plane. Had the entire section to myself. I raised the arm rests so I could lay down across the row and dozed off for a while. Woke up and someone had put a blanket on me while I was sleeping.

Women under 50 all believe they're invincible girl bosses from terrible Disney/Marvel shows and they "don't need no man" because they have their own money.

But they get fatally offended if you take them at their word and suggest they pay any part of their meal on a date.

No, they spiked the story whereas in the Neely/Penny case they deliberately inflamed the public with false reports claiming Neely was just minding his own business when some cracker up and killed him for no reason.
If the news handled both similarly they would have called for a race war to avenge Iryna.

I got to spend time with the people I work with, and it only solidified my already high opinion of these folks.

The Good Lord blessed me with landing *just* the right job, at *just* the right time, with *just* the right people, at *just* the right location.

237 There are very few outstanding people like Kirk. Most people are dummies. If you're looking at politics, the ratio gets really bad. For every Charlie Kirk, we've got a dozen Steve Schmidts.

I think people shoot political figures because so few are exceptional. If you shot the brilliant engineer who's building a bridge, another brilliant or at least competent engineer would finish it. But politicians are mostly retarded perverts. Smart ones with moral fortitude are difficult to replace.

Tom Luongo has a response to that which ends:

So, yes, you can celebrate the murder of Charlie Kirk, but that means there will be a reaction. Giving in to your first impulse to publicly pronounce this and demand that your employer tolerate that is incompatible with any principle derived from the first amendment.

… and a free and truly open society.

And to be abundantly clear, the first amendment covers only the federal government from censoring you for your speech through prosecution. Private individuals and companies are not bound by the first amendment.

This means you can be a pathetic shitbag celebrating and/or justifying murder but that doesn’t mean anyone has to tolerate it. And I will defend your right to be a pathetic murder-celebrating shitbag just like I will defend and cheer on those that shun you for being so.

Thank you for your attention in this matter

246 On a lighter note, I just found out about the "battle" of Karánsebes.
Apparently the Austrians in 1788 were fighting the Turks. The Austrians came to Karánsebes in what's now Romania. Then they got to fighting amongst themselves. Someone shouted that the Turks were approaching so the cavalry fled. Then someone ordered "HALT" to stop the flight. The non-German speakers in the army thought that sounded like "ALLAH" and shot the officers.
When the Turks (finally) showed up, everyone was dead or run away already.
btw, the Turks lost that war in the end.

Charlie Kirk is gone and we are diminished. May God protect his family.

Over the past few days I've seen:

Maoris perform the Haka for Charlie (they displayed a couple of framed pictures of Charlie, so the Haka must have been FOR Charlie),

A couple of references to Charlie (ABC News video zooming in on a cross and a sign) in the titanic protests in the UK.

This thing is internationally big. It looks like the Left is in real trouble everywhere.

285 The Westminster Confession of Faith (for Presbyterians, a summary of Belief) says, basically, that it is sufficient to hold one day a week to be holy, and by custom in Christian churches that has been the first day of the week, the Lord’s Day, in celebration of the New Covenant Jesus made by His Death on the Cross, and to only do needful or merciful acts on that day, and to also to use the day to worship God. We count the day in the Western European fashion from midnight to midnight, although the lunar calendar of the Hebrews counts days from sunset to sunset. That is why the Jewish Sabbath is from sundown on Friday to sunset on Saturday. Some sects follow the Jewish custom for the Sabbath, most do not. Also some Christians keep the Jewish Sabbath for various personal reasons, as did Charlie Kirk.

Also, the lefties saying the shooter wasn’t trans are lying and they know it. A chaser is pretty much guaranteed to become a full-fledged tranny at some point. He was already steeped in the radical trans culture.

Given that numerous tranny friends of the shooter seemed to have foreknowledge of the attack is further evidence of a conspiracy. They should all be rolled up.

In the meantime, when using grok, I will sleep with the Chinese and use Opera. Opera doesn't block anything, why would an information vacuum do that?

313 I hope the FISA court allows the FBI to roll up a hundred people in the conspiracy that contributed to the planning and commission of the crime ... and every single one of them earns a felony murder charge.
Posted by: Pillage Idiot

FISA "two hops" rule would be looking at hundreds easily, especially given open forums they allegedly frequent.

I've cut back on my trips to Las Vegas. No one attends the meet-ups except me and Hat. I think that changing the date to coincide with the LV Shot Show might help.

316 Knitters scare me. Sitting around, knitting bad sweaters that you have to regift...awful stuff.

317 Storytime: The knitting community has been toxic since BLM. I spin yarn and had to unfollow almost everyone. They are too far gone. Look up the Ravelry controversy--the founder came out as trans in 2019 & banned any reference to Trump from the site, even in chat

A western Pennsylvania man and his emotional support alligator took a shopping cart spin around the local Walmart, where he claims they've never had a problem — but this recent trip earned them orders to stay away, the retail giant confirmed Thursday.

Wesley Silva, 60, and his 5-foot-long, 32-pound reptile named Jinseioshi made the local news after a trip to a Walmart in West Brownsville, where he pushed the alligator around in a shopping cart as she was wearing a dress.

Woman killed her friend then stayed in the flat with her body for 11 days

Wales Online ^ | 13 Sep 2025

One of Zoe Crowther's children said that her life was 'overshadowed by a dark cloud of grief'

A woman killed her friend then remained in the property with her body for 11 days. Police were called to a ground floor property in Church, Lancashire, at 12.25pm on January 14 after neighbours reported a concerning smell coming from the flat.

When the door was not answered, a police officer climbed through an open kitchen window, reports the Manchester Evening News.

Once inside the property the officer saw Janet Connor. When they walked into the living room, they found Zoe Crowther's body, the court heard. Connor then made an immediate and unprompted admission, saying: "I need to tell you summat... I've done something bad...I've killed her."

Little plastic ball in there.
