Femme au chapeau blanc

Pablo Picasso

***

And...from commenter "NaClyDog comes this very weird AI-generated video. He thinks it's intriguing. I think it is also creepy, and disturbing because of the entrance of social media and technological manipulation into the art world. Yes, I am a Luddite when it comes to art. I think it should be done by hand. Otherwise it is graphic design, and while pleasing, it is a very different thing.

106 Morning, Art Folken,

Woman With White Hat, eh? This looks very modern. In that you can see someone who looks like this (not dressed like this, but weighing in like this) every day in America at Walmart, Walgreens, and your local Chik-Fil-A. She's not attractive to me, and so the painting fails to compel me.

The left hand appears to have five fingers. The one at the top is a thumb, I presume, but it doesn't seem to be opposed to the fingers, even if it is a little thicker and shorter.

Yep. Tiered models of subscriptions though. I would ask NaClyDog.

AI art and music model offerings are changing so fast right now that it takes someone dealing with them to know which is better, cheaper, faster.

I think we get to all photo realistic 10-15 minute AI shorts pretty soon and available now if you are dealing with animated figures.

Assuming scaling already planned is carried out, we might have total AI generated movie in under 5 years with minimal human input. Not the same as saying it would be a GOOD AI movie but the AI era is upon us.

117 They used to do live model paintings which was pretty cool. Like the AI they would have someone dress as Van Gogh and have him strike the portrait pose within a frame.

120 MP4, I should have added, the key to AI is crafting the prompts to the model, not technically programming anymore. If you think of visual AI as a way to google and create an image based on your input terms, then be able to fix things by additional prompts after the initial rendering is not quite right.

Iterative process using the underlying data the model has been trained upon to generate an image or song.

In music, I think Rick Beato on YT has demonstrated how he crafted an AI song and that might be illustrative enough for you.

123 The only relatively good AI video I’ve (knowingly) seen is a fake trailer for a sixties Justice League, staring Gregory Peck as Batman, James Garner as Superman, and Yul Brynner as The Martian Manhunter.

Most of the rest are only fun to watch in the sense that it’s fun to watch computer screwups. The only screwup in that video was choosing George Peppard as Captain Marvel. Peppard has always been too old to play Captain Marvel, even when he wasn’t.

He doesn't look fearful or surprised. More as if he's lounging after a bath.

I read or heard somewhere that the tradition of sculpting or painting nude men with small members was supposed to be flattering; that, had the figure been sculpted/painted with larger "tackle," it would have implied that the subject was not very bright, and all of his life and mind centered around his sexual equipment. Conversely, a small member indicated the subject's high intelligence.

(Sounds like a theory a small-tackled man would come up with . . .)

Chicago aldermen are once again warning downtown residents and workers to be prepared for potential chaos ahead of this weekend’s Mexican Independence Day, a holiday that has increasingly turned into an unsanctioned takeover of the Loop and surrounding areas by car caravans. The warnings come as city officials brace for another year of traffic jams, fireworks, and noisy celebrations that have tested police and exasperated locals. CPD arrested 69 people during last year’s four-day weekend, including at least 19 for illegal gun possession.

182 148 I remember hearing a theory that Michelangelo sculpted David to be at a heightened moment of fear, as evidenced by his larger eyes and small penis.

Small penis is from cold water, not fear! I presume it was a nod to Classical Greek statues, which had small penises because:

This artistic choice was not an oversight but a deliberate representation of ideals such as self-control, rationality, and civilization, which were highly prized in Greek society.

In contrast, large or erect penises were associated with lust, lack of restraint, and barbarism, often used to depict negative traits in figures like satyrs, fools, or enemies such as the Egyptians.

The small penis thus served as a visual symbol of moral integrity and intellectual superiority, distinguishing heroic and divine figures from those considered morally deficient.

The J6 targets were identified through a collaboration between the legislative research group and the FBI. [That’s unlawful by the way – but that’s another matter]. The FBI contracted Palantir to identify the targets using facial recognition software and private sector databases.

Once identified, the targets were then searched in the NSA database for a fulsome context of identity. All subsequent electronic metadata of the targets was retrieved and utilized in prosecution; however, no one ever discovered this was the collaborative method. That has not come out yet.

Now I can't watch any of his movies without a break in reality for me--that I am watching a tiny deranged guy play a tough guy when in reality he is a wimpy pos douche that would run away if actually confronted.

Of course he got typed playing Nazis and Germans. He was German, but opposed the Nazis and fled Germany in '33. He only lived another year or so after Casablanca was released, or he might have wound up playing Rommel et al. after the war.

199 I read or heard somewhere that the tradition of sculpting or painting nude men with small members was supposed to be flattering; that, had the figure been sculpted/painted with larger "tackle," it would have implied that the subject was not very bright, and all of his life and mind centered around his sexual equipment. Conversely, a small member indicated the subject's high intelligence.

(Sounds like a theory a small-tackled man would come up with . . .)

AI isn't graphic design, it's its own thing. Digital art isn't always graphic design. Digital art can also be fine art. I've seen digital artists with ten times the feeling and understanding of classic art techniques than Duchamp's detestable "Fountain"sculpture.

Something I'm interested in seeing is the fact that most AI videos can't do a full scene for a long period of time, it's smaller segments spliced together. Can a full movie be made like that? Like how Hitchcock filmed Rope with as few film reels as he possibly could, to let the scene go for as long as he could, just to say he could do it. I'm interested where the pioneers of AI vids take us.

305 Something I'm interested in seeing is the fact that most AI videos can't do a full scene for a long period of time, it's smaller segments spliced together. Can a full movie be made like that? Like how Hitchcock filmed Rope with as few film reels as he possibly could, to let the scene go for as long as he could, just to say he could do it. I'm interested where the pioneers of AI vids take us.
Posted by: LizLem

There are two limits on AI--one is sheer computing power time--full blown audio and video takes a LOT of data processing and the second is training data. You have to have the model trained on visual and audio data in order to pull it out upon user demand.

Photorealistic AI video is the highest tier of processing and data needs (and thus expense). That is why AI is first being widely deployed in songs (a lot of what is on TikTok and YT now is all AI songs perhaps with a human front for it). Less demanding task in both training data and processing needs.

AI stills or short animated pieces are somewhere in between the photo realism video and music as far as data/processing needs.

Special election failures are the candidates fault; most all of them listen to useless consultants and don't know how to do actual retail campaigning. A special election is all about have you walked enough streets, knocked on enough doors, and personally pitched yourself to enough local people and groups to convince them to turn out and vote for you. Since leftists still have devoted core groups, they seem to have an advantage in low turnout elections, but it can be beaten by a good candidate.

and ALL special elections are low-turnout elections.

I know photography schools that won't teach digital photography. The idea that an art school will allow AI art to be accepted for projects feels like blasphemy. You need the concepts of art first!

Understanding art history, why art has evolved the way it has, and the main elements of good art and design (line, form, shape, color, contrast, etc) is super important. She needs those foundations and a good school will teach her how to do that. Without AI.

But hating on AI is useless at this point. The artists of the future will use it as a tool. Learning how to prompt it to get the needed results is as important as what art it spits out. You cant get the right thing if you don't know what inputs to give it

Colleges lie a lot to students about the usefulness and future employability of graduates.

When I was an academic advisor as a prof, I didn't lie to my students often to their massive disappointment.

One of the points I made was don't expect to be rewarded externally for what you want to do. If you want to do something, do it for yourself but don't figure that your dream will pay for itself or be rewarded from others.

341 One of the Fed governors resigned earlier this year. The Heresy Financial guy says that what Trump really wants to do is stop paying interest on the bank reserves held at the Fed forcing the money to go into the bond market. All he needs is a majority of the governors (4 of 7 I think) instead of the whole FOMC which has 12 members.

You financial guys can chime in but I think that would raise the price of bonds and drastically lower their interest rates allowing Trump to refinance the government debt in longer term with lower interest rates. Also the Fed would stop paying the billions in interest and that money will go to the Treasury instead.

Like how Hitchcock filmed Rope with as few film reels as he possibly could, to let the scene go for as long as he could, just to say he could do it. I'm interested where the pioneers of AI vids take us.

My answer to this is turn the GOP into a party that constantly advances the immediate financial interests of its voters (and leaners). But as a Goldberg or French would tell us "that's not conservative economics"

One example, change the child deduction numbers to be more like what Hungary does - have 4 kids and pay no taxes. But structure it so there is no EITC or the like that pays you additional moneys it just zeroes out owed income taxes.

Why? Conservatives pay taxes and have kids. Leftists either pay taxes and have few children (the AWFLs) or have lots of kids and no taxable income (the FSA)

Posted by: Cow Demon
========
Yes and no. Don't depend on AI for mission critical (as in the plane goes down if AI is wrong) evaluations of data, coding, etc. But if a song line, AI singing, or a bad rhyme is a bit hinky in an AI song, then it is simply an error that might be glossed over just like hearing a live performance of musical artists versus the endless takes of a recorded session.

Same for video--glitches occur but often go unnoticed in AI. Good enough so to speak.

What I do think though is that Ai has a problem with models going insane over time when real world data conflicts with the training data responses.

Thus, AI companies are simply retraining their models from scratch over and over again using original training data augmented by whatever additional data they can grab. But, you get a scaling problem in that the real data in some areas available to train the models is decreasing and the risk is that grabbing every bit of data on the net runs into the likelihood of grabbing data generated by AI models themselves.

Practicing lawyers in a local area end up knowing all the judges and dealing with them on an ongoing basis. So they always end up surprised when 'party business' of Democrats (or the GOP in a few areas) supersedes the rule of law in a particular case.

The judge was always a partisan bigot but normal day to day dealings on mundane criminal or civil cases with no significance to political parties mean that these lawyers are lulled to sleep by repetitive process.

Special elections are a matter of turnout and candidates in the race. Use to be that GOP voters turned out in rain or shine. But, as the GOP coalition has broadened and become less attractive to the highly educated types, you get more voters that are not reliable in turnout.

And they will not turn out for your standard GOPe schmoe that believes tax cuts for wealthy uber alles, tax hikes for plebes, corporate subsidies for locating in a place, and so on.

You cannot win with Mitch McConnell type candidates for open seats anymore on in Trump's GOP. The newer GOP voters are transactional in nature--what are you going to do to represent them instead of fat cat donors. They want reform, not failure theater.

On the other hand, the Dem coalition is shrinking because Genderfluid Johnny Graduate Degree in Gender Studies demands to lead the party as a social status marker for his friends rather than provide any much help to those trying to climb up in society.

A big controversy among the readership was the submission of photoshopped images, either extensive modifications or using software to overlay multiple images into a composite. The consensus seemed to be coalescing to give computer enhancement its own category. As the magazine irrelevant to my interests, I dropped the subscription.

AI and straight up computer generation of images entirely devoid of any human involvement beyond keywords pretty much makes the previous discussion null and void. I agree with the distinction of graphic design is a separate process from artistry, whether by use of pigments or by capturing images through lenses.
